Boarding your best friend is never easy but I know I'm leaving her with dog people. Last time I had to check her in I turned to leave the yard. They were walking her to the kennels. As I was opening the gate I turned back to take a last look. I was undetected by my dog or the staffer and they were patiently allowing my dog to smell the grounds and make herself at home and not just rushing her back into the run. I have been a boarding and training client at McKenna kennels for over 2 years. I have spent extensive time with the owners and training/boarding staff both on and off of the main property. I have a sincere appreciation for the passion and commitment that they have for the care, training and well-being of all of the dogs that they handle. Everything that I have observed suggests a deep respect for the dogs. These folks have been working with dogs on this property for at least 3 generations. I don’t think you can commit your life to the dog profession unless you truly love the animals, and it shows in the entire operation. Like others who have posted, I drive in from the Seattle area to board my dogs. Without question, the facility is better than any of the kennels that are available in the city. I have also been extremely impressed with the training program, which takes into account the specific needs of each dog. I would highly recommend them to anyone for boarding or training. more

i have not boarded my pets with mckenna kennels because of the abuse i see there on a daily basis , the pets are kicked and shocked repeatedly until he feels they are doing want he wants them to do. i can only imagine what the pets are going through when he takes them off the property for 5-6 hours at a time where no one can hear their cries. my heart bleeds every day for these's pets. more

I just made reservation for my lab to stay at Mckenna Kennels for 2 weeks . I have boarded my dogs ( 3 since 1992) with them . In the past I have board at other kennels closer to Tacoma , however they were much more expensive and kennels were smaller . Mckenna Kennels is located in Roy about 30 minute drive , they have lots of property to exercise the dogs . Regarding price $16 / day is great rate includes food , exercise twice daily and 15 minutes of playtime . Closer to town expect to pay $20 + / day . For me is is worth the drive . Sam A. more

I've been boarding my dog here for 2 years and am very happy with the staff and the facilities. The Kennels and grounds are kept clean, and my dog is always happy and healthy when I pick him up. My dog was boarded here for 2 months for training in 2006, Bruce, one of the trainers, was excellent! Our dog went from an uncontrollable wild Lab to a well behaved pleasant dog. I dropped in unexpected several times, and always found my my dog happy and well cared for. The staff is always friendly and happy to answer questions, and the prices are very reasonable when compared to what other kennels charge. more
