Best in Charlotte! 3/5/2010

I have eaten at McNinch several times and have never been disapointed! The service is always friendly and professional, the Wine Steward has always done a great job with pairings, and the food: Awesome! Last time I went we had the Rack of Lamb and the Pork Osso Bucco, both were incredible! It may seem a little expensive, but 7 courses at any other place in town would cost WAY more than $89. And compared to restaurants in NY, Chicago, or San Fransisco, it's a steal! Maybe other reviewers on this site had a bad experience, but that's never been the case with me. Next time, I'm trying out the Chef's Table!!! Pros: Everything: Food, Wine, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Nothing! more

so so food 3/2/2010

I love to eat great food but this place is too too expensive for the food. The quality lacks. We went of a recommendation with friends @ 280.00 for 2 ouch. I will stick to my other choices that don't break my husbands wallet. Pros: home Cons: too expensive more

OVER PRICED 2/8/2010

I went here for my special gal and I to have a romantic dinner. $16.00 for 2 coffee's is over the top. It is a turn off to have a 20% gratuity automatically added, when service is sub standard. The food is ok at it's best . For $ 300.00 which was wine pairing for 1 person and only 3 glasses is SILLY when I am in New York yes but here in Charlotte their are too many other great restaurants with better service and GREAT FOOD AS WELL AT HALF THE COST AND THEY DON'T ADD AUTO GRATUITY. Pros: NINCH A FORTUNE Cons: TOO PRICEY FOR WHAT YOU GET more

NOT AN ANTIQUE SHOP! 8/27/2009

THIS IS IN THE WRONG CATEGORY - it is a restaurant and should not be listed under the Antiques listing on CitySearch. Pros: Nice Restaurant in great setting Cons: Very expensive more

A Lovely Dining Experience 2/7/2009

We knew we were in for a treat at the McNinch House, but nothing could have prepared us for the lovely evening we spent there. Rather than feeling like we were in a restaurant, we felt as if we were having dinner in the home of a good friend...a good friend who is an amazing chef and has a wonderful wine cellar! In an age of technology overload and too hurried lives, it was nice to be transported back to an era of personal attention with a leisurely and gracious dinner in a turn-of the century architectural gem. Pros: Fine Dining,Romantic Dining, Wine List, more

Average food and high cost makes it a disappointment 8/24/2008

Very expensive for what you get. Most of the food was good but below par when compared to restaurants of similar price (none of which are in Charlotte). We also got the wine pairings which were somewhat disappointing. We received the same wine, Murphy's Law Red ($13-17 per bottle retail), with the last two courses. While price is a poor measure of wine quality, I felt for $75 per person the wine pairings could have been more creative. Despite the ornate china and flatware, some of the stemware used to serve the wines was similar to what you would fine at a cheap Italian restaurant. Total bill for two was $425 with tax and the included 20% gratuity. The ambience is romantic but a bit over the top. By the end of the dinner, I found myself simply wanting a course to not come with a large flower stuck in it.\r \r I doubt we will go back unless someone else is picking up the tab. Pros: Romantic, leisurely paced dinner Cons: High price, average food more

World class splurge! 4/13/2008

The ultimate in fine dining! Impeccable service and unbelievable food. They make you feel as if you were the only table dining! The presentation of food is nothing short of spectacular through all 6 courses! The meal will take you hours to eat, and I've never left dissatisfied! It's pricey, but well worth it for a very special occasion. more

THE place for a special meal 3/29/2008

Prepare to take your time and be pampered. I adore this place. The waitstaff is always sooo attentive- the food is spectacular- and the setting is divine. more

THE Place for Special Evenings Out 11/24/2007

This was our first time and we enjoyed the experience! The food was nothing amazing or spectacular (typical american cuisine)- I could recommend a few other restaurants, but the experience was memorable. If you like being pampered when dining, then this is the place for you. Also, if you are trying to impress a date, take her here. The restaurant has plenty of charm!! Pros: Customer service Cons: no privacy- open dining room. food was average. more

THIS IS THE BEST FINE DINING RESTAURANT IN CHARLOTTE!!!! 6/1/2007

My husband and I have spent many evenings celebrating at McNinch from birthdays, anniversaries to New Year's and we have never been disappointed. We went again last month and it was the most spectacular evening. They just keep getting better. We thought the wine pairings with the meal were superb. Not only was dinner absolutely DELICIOUS, it was fun to discuss the wine pairings with the wine steward. We cannot say enough about the wait staff. They have it down to a science. We did not want for anything. Try it you'll love it as we do. It is worth every dollar spent!!! Pros: Superior food, Great service and outstanding staff, very romantic, more

Wonderful 2/16/2006

If you want the best dining experience in Charlotte, choose this place. I really felt like royalty in this place. I am a manager of a fine dining restaurant here in Charlotte, and find dining out always a bit of a let down. I am always thinking the staff at these other places could do something better. Not the case here! The attention to detail is amazing. The food is spectacular, and the service is persoanlized and seamless. I noticed my champagne flute had been cleared, yet it seemed no one had even been to the table. As I said, this is the best restaurant in Charlotte. Thank you Greg, Ellen, and Wesley. Pros: great house, food , service Cons: price more

Magical Evening of Dining 12/14/2005

The most magical and romantic dining experience my wife and I have ever had. The preservation efforts of the 115 year old house make you feel as if you stepped back in time and every room is perfectly furnished, decorated and lighted to enhance the experience. The wait staff is always readily available, without hovering. Every place setting is impeccably assembled and each table is positioned for everyone's comfort. The wait staff led by Greg is accommodating in every way, with every little detail attended to. Every member of the staff ensures an unforgettable evening and works in perfect unison for the pleasantly choreographed dining experience. Every taste of each dish and complementing wines are a divine experience that everyone should enjoy at least once in their life. Pros: Complete service, Choreographed timing, Fantastic food, wine Cons: bar bill surprise more

Best Dinner in My Life (Just ask my Wife) 6/6/2005

Initially, I was hesitant at first, due to negative reviews on this site, but I needed my 25th anniversary to be a memorable one, and the McNinch House delivered. Rather than the typical chain-style restaurants where you order from a menu and pick from a wine list, I was looking for something unique. Indeed I found it: at the McNinch House, the chef's choice menu changes daily, the hardest decision for me was from the week's entree selections. I also appreciated the fact that the wines were paired with the flavors of the courses, making me look like a wine expert! Our server was attentive and personable, never rude or ""lackadaisical"", and seemed geniunely interested in making my experience one I'd truly treasure. In summary, I'd like to thank the McNinch House for making the special occasion of our 25th anniversary one of the best nights of our lives. Pros: Romantic, 5-Star, Gourmet more

Unfortunately Not Worth The Price 2/24/2005

Citysearch only allows 150 words, so its hard to give all the reasons we were disappointed in McNinch House. Heres a few: Not allowed to choose how meat is prepared. I happen to prefer my beef rare, but was told that it would arrive a perfect pink or medium rare. For the price, youd think the diner might have some say in the matter. Wines not perfectly matched to each course. Each diner got the same wine regardless of whether they ordered rack of venison or Chilean sea bass. The soup was tepid, not hot. I wasnt able to drink wine; I had water. Id hoped to get regular refills, but ran out during soup course, and didnt get a refill until we flagged down someone after entrees arrived. Same problem w/coffee during dessert. I expected better service when gratuity is added to the bill before you even see it. Pros: Romantic dining, unique experience, some very good food Cons: lackadaisical service, poor value for cost more

lovely 5/17/2004

We try to go at least once a year for an anniversary or birthday. This is a fabulous little jewel in Uptown with valet parking. Your order is taken at the time you make your reservation; and you must have a reservation to dine here. It's almost like dining at a black-tie dinner party at a friend's house, but without having to make polite small talk with the other guests. The maitre d' greets you at the door with champagne and small hors d'oeuvres. Service during the meal is unobtrusive and perfectly timed. It's not cheap. At $300+ for two the last time we were there (including wine), this is one of the priciest restaurants in Charlotte. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Simply Outstanding!!! 11/24/2002

The service is outstanding and the food is superb. The owners never overlook the smallest detail in making this a unforgettable experience. But bring your Credit Card!!! Pricey but worth it. more
