This is just a fantastic place to get lost in to. They have everything that a bar need. They also have a night where they involve the crowd and the people in here. more

I am a big fan of indian food. I like Chakra and love the new Tamarind in Crystal cove. Today, I was near Mayur so went for lunch. The chicken in Tikka was overcooked. The portions are too small and pricey for the quality. The samosa was too oily. So much for my new experiment. I will stick with Chakra for routine and Tamarind for special occasions. more

Indian loves Indian food 3/15/2011

I was late for work so didn't eat breakfast. starving for lunch, went to Mayur to fill up, was ready to eat a lot. small portions so i had to order many plates. i like very much chicken tikka masala and naan. i like it spicy so i like this place. if you are not used to, then maybe you need to ask for less spice or try a lassi. my coworker thought it too spicy but he is not used to it. it's a little pricey, but since food is good, I am ok for it. eggplant and biryani also most excellent. more

Best Indian Food! 10/14/2010

The best Indian food in Orange County. I think I have tried them all and Mayur is definitely the top of the list. The ambiance is very nice and the service is 5 star. Also, last but not least, the restaurant is spotlessly clean. more

SIMPLY THE BEST 10/12/2010

I have been a happy customer of this restaurant for over twenty years, and can tell you unequivocally that Mayur has THE best Indian Food in California. As a former RE Manager for a major oil company, I've sampled Indian fare from Sacramento to San Diego, and Mayur beats them all. Chicken Makhani, a specialty here, is simply sublime, and embellished with edible (totally safe)silver foil and covered in a tomato based sauce that's been cooked for hours, and unsurpassed in texture, taste and quality. Mayur's lamb dishes have a depth and range that make choosing a difficult task. Likewise, Mayur's Bharta, and Aloo Gobi are vegetarian specialites that are a cut above, normal Indian fare. The restaurant's choice in quality ingredients and long held family recipes make this my favorite restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! more

true taste of Northern India 10/9/2010

Mayur is quite a distance from home for us but every visit there is a treat! I am a vegetarian so I tend to choose palak paneer , bhartha and dal for my main meal and chaat for starters. I have yet to be disappointed as the food is always delicious and the quality consistent. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable about the dishes they serve and to make suggestions. You don't feel rushed and can enjoy a pleasant evening with friends and family at Mayur. It is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in OC. more

Best Indian food in OC 10/3/2010

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. The food is authentic and cooked by the chef who has been there for over 20 years. My favorite dishes are the chicken curry, lamb chops cooked in the tandoor and the onion kulcha. In addition, this is the only place I eat seafood because it is fresh. There are many cheaper Indian restaurants around but considering the location and the quality, I believe it is worth the trip to Mayur. I take clients and friends there for lunch and dinner. more

Unexpected treat on our honeymoon 4/8/2010

My wife and I live in Ocean Beach (San Diego) and traveled to Laguna for our honeymoon. We drove up to Newport one day and decided we wanted Indian food. When we arrived at Mayur, we almost left because the location was on a busy street and it just didn't look like the cozy, quiet sort of place we wanted. I sure am glad we decided to go for it. Inside was peaceful and quiet. You couldn't hear or really notice all the traffic outside. The menu was simple, a $15 prixe fixe affair. The choices were Chiken Tikka Masala, Eggplant curry or a Lamb dish. I chose the chicken, wife chose the eggplant and we shared. You also got a delicious samosa to start and a dessert to finish. I was really surprised when each of our plates also included a bowl of sagg panner. I'm a big fan of this spinach and homemade cheese entree (even if I'm not spelling it correctly) and this dish did not disappoint. The spinach was well cooked and seasoned. The cheese was the perfect soft texture and size. This was my favorite dish. The eggplant was tasty and spicy, and they gave you plenty of chutney on the side to add if you wanted some extra spice. The red veggie chutney was great, and the green mint chutney was out of this world. VERY hot, so beware, but if you dig that kind of thing, this was terrific! The chicken tikka masala was also a winner. The chicken was tender and the tomato sauce was well seasoned and just hot enough. Although the food was great, it may have been a little overpriced without the additional helping of sagg paneer. That made it plenty of food for the price and made us very happy indeed. The downside was that we were a little early for lunch and the place hadn't filled up yet, so it was just us and the music and our server. She was very pleasant (I assume the owner) and made us feel welcome. We would definitely eat here again. The food and service deserve 5 stars, the only detractor was the location. Pros: Every bite of food was excellent, Server was pleasant Cons: Location, incense was a bit strong more

Top Tier Indian Food 6/27/2007

I've dined at Mayur many times and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always prompt and friendly. The waiters really know the menu well and can offer excellent assistance to those not completely familiar with Indian cuisine. more

Mayur 6/27/2007

We use to eat at Mayur many years ago and then left the area. We moved back and tried Mayur again and had the same delicious meal we had several years earlier-the only difference was that the restaurant had been remoldeled. It has become our local favorite for the past two years and the food is consistently fabulous. We lived in NYC for many years and we have never found an Indian Restaurant as good as this. We have also traveled serveral times to India and we have found the flavors very authentic and delicious at Mayur. The servers are friendly and the restaurant is cozy and very clean. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala, Shrimp tandoori and eggplant vegetable sidedish- the best in the world! more

Overpriced Indian Restaurant: 6/19/2007

Food is fair, but far overpriced! Never been to such an expensive Indian restaurant, with an Ambience , much tobe desired ! more

Fabulous Food 4/13/2007

The service was as good as I would expect for the cost, but the food was very flavorful. My husband said it is the best Indian food he has ever had and he's eaten Indian food from all over the world. I wish the tables would have been set further apart as there wasn't a lot of privacy. The tables are sort of packed in. The food was worth the wait. It was a bit pricey, but very high quality. Pros: Great food Cons: Slow service more

They have a good selection of Indian food. Their tandoori paneer and bhindi masala was pretty good. The ambience is nice! The service was friendly. Pros: good variety, service, parking Cons: a bit overpriced more

An Exceptional Place! 6/20/2006

I consider Mayur's to be the very best in Indian Cuisine. The chicken and lamb are perfectly cooked and served. The price is a little steep, but worth it if not once in a while! Pros: Food Cons: Price more

Exceptional Indian Cuisine... for a Price 12/11/2005

Mayur is tucked away in a quiet, pretty stretch of PCH. It has to be the best Indian food I've ever had (and I've tried many over the years). Fabulous Karai dishes, their Chicken and Lamb are prepared top notch. I have a sensitive palate, and many run-of-the-mill Indian restaurants can come across too heavy or greasy for me. But not so here! Very fine, subtle flavors, rich spices, but never too heavy or greasy! The only downside is the price. It can run ~$20-30 per person (no drinks), but it's nice for a date, or once-in-a-while . Great food! Pros: Excellent Dishes Cons: Price more

The absolute best in the US 3/15/2005
