Best Dive Ever!!\r \r We found this place when we stayed at the motel next door. After finding no other restaurants open in nearby Mount Airy, NC, we decided to give this place a try. Because of its ""shady-looking"" exterior, we weren't sure what to expect, but the pizza and french fries were outstanding! And, as the other reviewer stated, everything is made to order by the rather ""gruff"" owner. The ""dining room"" is a few wooden picnic tables set outside in front, right next to Andy and Barney's old police car from Mayberry RFD. \r \r Every time we travel to vacation in North Carolina, we plan a stop at the Mayberry Station Grill and Market as part of our trip! Don't be intimidated by the exterior of the place, it is really a ""find"" - a true diamond in the rough. It should be featured on ""Diners, Drive-ins and Dives""! This was an AWESOME find.. first of all.. it's Mayberry, does it get better than that?? We found ourselves in an awful traffic jam and got off Route 77N exit 8 for gas.. First - we HAD to take pics of this place..! Its a tiny cart with cardboard signs and an old painted cop car in front.. crazy looking! We were starving and I'm soo glad we went here.. BEST PORKCHOP SANDWICH ever! We also got the polish sausage, great. The very sociable, kind gentleman who owns it made each of our sandwiches to order while we waited.. TOTALLY worth the trip.. I actually called to see if they'll be open xmas eve, as we'll be traveling north again.. so happy to hear they will be.. Definately worth your trip!!!!!!!! Pros: Very nice owner, convenient, EXCELLENT food, affordable!!! Cons: that we only get to visit it once/year driving north!! more
