The worst $45 I ever spent. This place seemed nice enough when my husband and I walked in but as soon as we received the chips and salsa we knew we were in trouble. The salsa was watered down and served by the tablespoon full. The chips were not large and warm tortilla chips instead seemingly right out of a bag and not very tasty. The margi's were weak and mostly ice for $6.50. The side of guacamole was good just a very small portion for the price. We chose to get the combo platters to try a little of everything and unfortunately everything was bad. The beans were runny and unflavored. The beef filling in the taco, enchilada and burrito could have been anything-totally tasteless. But the absolute worst was the chili releno which I have had all over the country a hundred x. and I love. To see and taste what this restaurant did to my beloved dish was very disappointing to say the least. it was a plain chili (not stuffed) folded inside an actual egg omlete with some kind of bland cheese on top. I was speechless. It was awful. No extras for the tostada such as guac or sour cream. Not good. I would highly recommend you choose to go someplace else because this place is about as authentic as Mcdonalds and priced to gauge the Econo lodge guests who are likely forced to eat there out of convenience. Dennis Laurion and Bonnie Laurion both enjoy Maya Family Restaurant in Hermantown, Minnesota. We've always found sufficient parking and ample seating. We're given warmed chips and salsa as soon as we're seated. The furnishings and music are Mexican-themed.\r \r The staff are all very polite and friendly. There are several tables in the dining room that are long enough for large gatherings. Bonnie and I like to sit in the bar. There are high stools at the bar itself, but there are about eight tables with conventional chairs. Felipe usually waits on us. Like the other servers, he is bilingual with very good English. He's very prompt, attentive, and gracious. \r \r There are several choices of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and other Mexican selections. Choices of meat include ground beef, shredded beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. I've tried all but the seafood and enjoy all I've tried. The menu has a number of combination platters. Most meals include re-fried beans and Spanish rice. Lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, and melted cheese come with some meals but are available by request with other meals. \r \r I've tried both the 2 burritos combination and the 3 tacos combination in all 4 meat choices. I've had the super burrito in all meat flavors, the tacos supremos in all flavors, and the enchiladas verde in all meat choices. All of these meals have been great. They range from about $10 to about $15.\r \r My wife chooses the chicken casa dia called ""the crunchy cheesy."" There are also hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and steaks. A wide drink menu includes margaritas, Dos Equis Amber, Dos Equis Lager, other Mexican beers, American beers, and mixed drinks. \r \r Maya Family Restaurant is tricky to enter. Heading southeast on 194 (53), there is a sharp right angle into the parking lot. Going northwest on 194 (53), there is no entrance from the highway. At Haines Road, turn left. In less than 1/2 block, turn right into the entrance to the empty Chevy dealership. Follow the drive to the empty dealership and turn right toward the highway. Near the highway, there is an entrance to Maya's parking lot. \r \r Bring cash or credit cards. Maya does not take checks. more

the food was terriable! overcooked and very bland. if your looking for good mexican food i suggest you drive up to cloquet and go to a place called the mexican lindo. they have excelent food and drinks, are reasonable priced and have very large portions. be warned its always busy. The staff are very good and speak well, one is kinda shy and cute. If you order taquitos or an apps platter you can split it. So good! great drinks and knowledgeable barteneder, 5 kinds margaritas, 6 types Mexican beer. very nice. The carne meals are great, and you can just order a tamale, then they tell you what is good. We always stop there when ever we are in Duluth. The variety and quality of food is great. The choice of Imported beer is superb. You always feel welcome by the staff and the atmosphere is like you are dining in the South. I highly recomend it for all ages. more
