Maxim Gourmet Oriental Market

Maxim is pretty good as far as Chinese grocery stores go. Another store nearby is Kam Sam, think the competition got them to improve. I've found their groceries and frozen foods tend to be less expensive and selections are similar. Don't know about the meats, seafood or veges, what I usually need I can get at Safeway. But for specialty foods like pork buns, potstickers, tofu, Chinese snacks, soybean milk & ingredients for Asian recipes this is the place to go. Don't mind the cashiers, they don't seem as friendly as at Kam Sam, but they're not as rude as what you'd often find in D.C. or on the Metro. more

The store has been in Rockville forever. I hate going to there on the weekends because the parking lot is always full and there are a ton of people there. They have remodeled the store and made it so much cleaner. you can actually see how white the floor is! I guess because Kam Sam opened up behind them and they were facing competition. I go there sometimes after I go to Kam Sam because there is a big collection of Asian movies and a gift store that you can purchase 24K gold jewelery. more

I began shopping at Maxim over a decade ago when it was the only Chinese supermarket in the area. But then Kam San popped up right across the street and I'll be honest. I go to Kam San first, before I shop at Maxim. The store is cleaner and the prices are generally lower. The speculation is that the things are in turn fresher, because Kam San has better business. I will, however, go to Maxim when I want to rent Chinese movies, because there is a video rental place right next door. And there is also a jewelry / gift shop there too for your convenience. The overall fresh produce and meat section is good, as it seems to be fresh and has a good variety. They also have a small in house kitchen that cooks "Lunch Boxes" for those of you that want cheap quick lunches. They are a really good deal and I have friends who buy them very often. more

Maxim is a great oriental grocery store with a wide selection of items including fresh meat and seafood. In addition to groceries, they also sell housewares, cloth, etc. However, one problem is that the store always smells very strongly of seafood. I can't spend too long in there because of the smell. Also, the staff isn't the most helpful nor friendly. But if you just want to pic up some oriental groceries and don't care much about service or ambiance, check out Maxim. more

i liike this place, theres alot of different things you can buy here that u wont get else where, although customer service is bad as like all other places, jus hope that you kno what you want and kno what it looks like because none of these guys rewally help out too much unless u speak their langualge more

Maxim's is a really nice Chinese supermarket located in north Rockville, near Kam Sam Asian Supermarket. Maxim's has a wide selection of Chinese products, fresh produce, meats, and seafood. The store also sells other interesting items from China and throughout Asia. This is the place to get hard to find items. If you don't find an item in Kam Sam's that you are looking for, you should try this place, and vice versa. more
