Mattatuck Animal Hospital

I think this is absolutely the place to go. They are by far the cheapest place. And the vet is very nice. I went there when my dog needed surgery and it at least half the price anyone else would have charged plus every follow up appointment was FREE! No problems either. Everything is clean and everyone is polite. I went again today with three of my dogs to get shots and they took a lot of money off because I had multiple pets. I know some vets say you have 10% off or something but this was a REAL discount. And I also like how it doesn't seem like they are all after money only. My dog had a blood clot in his ear like my other dog had surgery but he told me at this point he wouldn't need surgery it would be pointless. Most vets would probably make me do surgery anyway. I love this vet I just wish I knew about it years ago!!!! more

I had an 8 yr old chihuahua w/diarrhea & vomiting x1 day. He was never sick a day in his life. He was given a shot for nausea/vomiting & was also given tramadol for discomfort. Turns out that's a deadly combination. I called regarding side effects because he was extremely drowsy & was panting. I was reassured that this was to be expected. An hr later he was dead. Started shaking/seizing & stopped breathing in my arms. Never once was I told that mixing the 2 meds could kill my dog. I left a message regarding the incident & still have not heard back from them yet. If you love your pet, DO NOT BRING HIM/HER THERE! Oh & BTW, I only gave it one star becaus I had too. It deserves no star. more

The staff here at Mattatuck is absolutely fantastic! It is a small clinic, where your pet gets the care and attention they need. The vet techs are very knowledgeable and were also willing to explain pricing (which is very reasonable). I brought my 5 year old cat, Peri, in with a cyst on his neck. Dr. Turgeon was very gentle with Peri and explained everything very well about the surgery he would do. Peri is a very nervous, shy cat so it is stressful for him (and me!) to do this! Later, on the day of the surgery, I called to see how he was and Dr. Turgeon went carefully over how the procedure went and Peri's condition. I picked Peri up the following day and he looked great! He is now recovering well and going back in a few days to have the stitches removed. Another thing that was great, was that they were able to hold a sample of the cyst for biopsy. They will send it out, when I am ready to pay for the testing. Obviously, I want to know whether this growth is cancerous. Being able to wait a bit to work it into my budget is fantastic.
