Big night out for my husband and I. I closed a large deal and wanted to celebrate. Knew I would spent $200.00 plus for dinner neither of us are drinkers but had been to Mastro's many times in the past and wanted the experience again. Sorry ti say there must be a new chef! Nothing was as good! Lobster I has paid $85 for in the past which was excellent is less now but also less quality! Mu Husbands Filet wasn't so tender. Creamed spinach needed salt and I don't salt! Also garlic mashed the same. Service was great. Jon was friendly and attentive. Dessert came and to my husband's great disappointment the butter cake too wasn't as good. I don't write this to slam the restaurant, but to hopefully improve. It's an amazing location and great night out. I just want the same great food it used to serve. What happen?New chef? May want to rethink that decision. Oh and not related to old chef and no ulterior motives other than to replace the past experiences. more

I loved the steaks and seafood at Mastro's and the live music on the weekend is the best in Newport Beach. My bartender Pat served me an exceptional drink at the main bar that knocked me off my feet. I find it hard to stay away on the weekends because the bar area is so comfortable and the service is always great. I can't believe the reviews below, they must be angry about the higher cost of fine dining. more

I've been here many times, and the last time wasn't my favorite. We went for our anniversary, just for dessert since we went elsewhere to eat dinner (just to try a new place). We didn't have a reservation, but it was late as it was so i figured it's just two people, not staying long anyways. (around 11pm already!) We walked in and the hostess said she would see if they had a table, so we waited around in the lobby. (SHE DIDINT MOVE A STEP FROM THE F**** PODIUM) so after about 20 min i had my husband ask if she found anything. (we were getting tired of watching old white women with boob jobs that looked like they needed to be redone and overly tanned skinned, along with their 'sugar daddy' husbands! ha) finally we sit down. It was very very very crowded in the bar area, which the hostess took us through there to sit in the middle area where its pretty much a view of the sky. (idk why she didn't walk through the other way??? I know there's another way of getting there!) so we sit down and our waiter comes around... (he was a smart ass) im not there to make small talk with waiters! we get our food, ordered the infamous butter cake... which ive had many times, and honestly I don't think it's as good as before. (IVE MADE THE RECIPE... mine was better. ) eh .. so we finish and leave. Over all this place has lost it's ""high end touch"" .. now i see it as a place for old white rich ppl to show how much money they have.. COURSE. just bc we didnt flaunt how much money we had.... doesn't mean we didn't have any... might i say winning the lotto not to long ago is great! buutttt.... i don't think we'll be taking our millions here. I guess they should start judging ppl! more

First off, this place is in a gorgeous location just across the street from the Pacific Ocean. That is about as good as it gets; when we visited expecting great food and ambiance as well, we were sorely disappointed. The ok food was far outweighed by all the singles looking to find a hook-up for the night. Too crowded, too noisy and not for those NOT on the prowl. more

been in the restaurant industry 24 years and just got hired at matros ocean club last week!after having dinner there decided to apply and leave my long time current job and join mastros!very impressed and also very exicted to work there!the food is fabulous and yes might be pricy but the steaks and the fish are exeptionally fresh and tasty!worth the visit at least once to judge it by yoursef! more

Sadly, I have to agree with some of the other reviews, this place is grossly overpriced and simply, not good. By the way, I rarely take the time to actually write a review. However, this place was so bad I feel it my moral and civic responsibility to do so. more

I have been going to Mastro's Ocean Club since they first opened their doors. I spent the first New Years they opened at Mastro's to welcome the New Year. I have entertained big parties there and my last visit about 3 week ago was the worst service EVER!!!! The guy did not seem to be young but be was so slow and forgetful with our orders that I so much wanted to get up and walk out. I am thinking that upper management better wake up otherwise Mastro's will be losing some its best regular cliental. Pros: Location and Lobster Bisque Cons: Service seems to be getting worse.. more

At first, there was Impressive ambience and clientele. Arrived in time to view the sunset with spectacular views. The side dishes were excellent; especially the creamed spinach, the mashed potatoes, and the lobster bisque. The waiter was polite, but failed to bring out my sea bass with the other dishes. He promised to have it brought ""right out'. In the meantime, I shared the another's sea bass. Following a 30 minute wait, I asked him to just cancel my order. He refused stating it was too late. He suggested 'boxing it up"" so I could take it home for later. Pros: Ambience. Clientele. Views. Cons: Seafood. Price. more

Service was wonderful, the wine selection amazing, and it was very nice ambiance. The food was good but not nearly as good as I expected for the prices and the hype, I've def had better seafood. Went to Mastro's on a Sunday night b/f a holiday. Was able to make reservations the day of, a little later than wanted, but were able to get them. Arrived a few min early. Got a drink at the bar, seated in time for our reservation. The service was amazing... from the hostess, to the bartendar, to the wait staff. We both had steaks which was cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared the butter cake which might be one of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted. I definitely recommend this restaurant, they even called us a couple days later to make sure our experience was to our liking. Ten of us went for my bachelorette party and had a BLAST. Excellent service, amazing food and atmosphere. I have been to every major steakhouse in the country and Mastro's is the BEST. Great wine selection, huge portions and fun staff. I plan on taking all of my out of town guest there!!! more

I love steak, I usually try a new steak house every weekend, tends to be expensive! I must say this place the steak is amazing, try the Bone in Filet. Of course the scene is happening, Cantelope Martini- a must have. Reservations recomended. Pros: great food, great drinks more

Our experience at Mastros Ocean Club was phenominal. The service was incredible and the food was even better. The lobster mash potatoes were superb as was the buttercake. Chris, the manager was very personable and very professional, insuring our experience at the restaurant was memorable. If you have any problems he would surely see they were taken care of.
