Best

So those of you complaining about the return policy, do you realize that Barnes and Noble has pretty much the same policy?? its like that at most college bookstores.

Worst

Gosh I hope someone actually reads these. I would NEVER EVER go back to Marwils again. The staff is awful, the owner is a nightmare. They made a mistake ringing up my merchandise ...

LOCAL IS ALWAYS BETTER. 8/23/2013

Really weird.. some of these reviews... Anyways, they have the same policies yet keep their prices lower than barnes and noble. Plus, they are local. They also give more back when selling books. You decide where to put your money. more

Crap Service. 8/31/2012

Gosh I hope someone actually reads these. I would NEVER EVER go back to Marwils again. The staff is awful, the owner is a nightmare. They made a mistake ringing up my merchandise today (i am a Wayne State student) and they blamed ME for it. Also, when I called the owner to complain about his awful staff he ended up being worse. He didn't apologize for the rudeness of his staff and refused to refund me the money they owed me. I wish Wayne state would get some standards and get rid of this place. they rob students of their money and dignity. it's absolutely horrendous. please if you are reading this and have any sense don't go there. it's not worth your time or money. When the owner finally hung up on me after arguing with me for 5 minutes only after telling me he didn't care, he told me to "have a good f****** life." more

Unlawful business practices 9/11/2011

I am a student at Wayne State University. I purchased a book from Marwil's Bookstore on 9/6/11 before heading to class at around 4pm. After the class was over I realized the course was too easy and I could test out instead. I head back over to the bookstore around 7pm asking for a refund since I will not be needing the book. Staff was overtly rude and unhelpful telling me she "couldn't read" when I asked her to read the return policy stapled to my receipt, and even made me cry. The policy states that "A full refund will be given within the first week of purchase". I spoke with the owner of the store and he gave me the run around telling me the only way that he will accept the return is if they keep 25% of the sale. The book cost me $182, 25% would be right around $40 or $50, and as a college student that is a significant amount of money lost. I have filed a claim with my bank in order to do a charge back and expect nothing less than a full refund. They cannot assume that because I am more

Mom and Pops Yeah Right 6/1/2010

My experience with Marwil is they are over priced and poor cuatomer service. I have found ordering books online you come out much better in price and service. To be a Mom and Pops bookstore they sure do not act like any parents I have had... Just not a fair place to do business. more

YOUR NOT PAYING ATTENTION! 2/22/2010

Marwil Bookstore Inc is Great 9/10/2009

I have never had any problem here. It does get busy around the start of a new semester, but the employees still do their very best to help you. Say no to corporate evil, and support a local business. more

Avoid this place if possible 9/2/2008

I recommend avoiding this place if possible. As much money as this dump makes off of the students at Wayne State, they treat them like dirt. As mentioned by other reviewers the cashiers and management show no respect for their customers. Their return policies... excuse me, return guidelines is more appropriate, are a joke. After purchasing a text book early for a course, using their list of books required for the course they refused to refund my money and only give a store credit for their mistake. Redeeming that store credit also turned out to be a hassle and time consuming. If you are forced to buy your course materials from this store, I highly recommend verifying with your professor which books you need before you spend any of your hard earned money at this store. more

I Love This Place 7/23/2008

I love shopping at Marwil's because the place is all about being authentically Detroit. Some people expect to have their hand held and someone to rub their bottom and tell them everything is all right-but the owners, management and staff are all tremendous. If you are a pussy or sell out corporate shill than shop at the evil empire across the street. I like keeping my money in my neighborhood and Marwil's has been an integral part of the community for over 60 years. more

This place SUCKS! 9/27/2007

I always hate going into this store because of the dumb policy. I just bought a book even after the whole deadline crap for textbook. They don't even have a 30 days refund, that is so stupid. The cashiers are all a-holes! I never feel happy when I go in this store. They're lucky that the eng students have to go in there because the professors put their list there. The only thing I like about the store is the people who help you search for the book. more

It's fine... but seriously... BE NICE 8/16/2007

I have been shopping at Marwil's for 5 years, mostly because my professors for Lit classes only order there... Most of the employees are helpful on the floor to find books, but when it comes to purchasing, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, they seem like they cannot be bothered. I always leave feeling like I have been disrespected by their employees. \r Hey, when I shell out $400 a semester in book purchases, is a smile too much to ask? more

THIS PLACE SUCKS 1/9/2007

Screw all the corporate talk. Everytime I go in this place one of the employees is a complete a-hole! And what is this talk about support the local guy bla bla. If the local deli man is an a-hole would you buy his products. Stop going to this place and buy from ebay where you support the college student. Buying directly from the student can eliminate this business of marking up books that are needed by every student. more

small, crowded, but nice 8/10/2006

This is my first for my textbooks for classes at WSU (Wayne State University). IT GETS VERY CROWDED at the beginning of every semester, inside and out, but so does the other campus bookstore. Prices are about the same, but the service is far superior. The employees answer all your questions, and help more than the other. I also prefer to support the "little guy", not the larger bookstore. more

It's better than the corporate alternative 9/16/2005

Wayne State has 2 affiliated bookstores for course texts, Marwils and the other one. Marwils staff are more than ready to help you figure out which books you need, and unlike their competitior won't tell you that you need another $50 worth of non-required texts, which are generally not needed. Textbooks are expensive, and no matter what you'll never get all that much in book-buy-back, but Marwil's is by far the better choice for your Wayne State University textbook needs. more
