Integrity over profit 10/10/2014

I've been buying instruments from Rodney for years. When my daughter wanted to upgrade to an $800 flute, Rodney let her play it, then had her turn around so she couldn't see which flute he was playing. She guessed incorrectly, at which point he told her she wasn't ready. In short, he passed up a sure sale but showed me where his interests lay. He has integrity and has yet to ever charge me for repairs. My daughter finally got her new flute this year... that's what I call a low-pressure sale. more

Good, old-fashioned business 1/5/2013

I went in needing one of my flutes to be examined, since the high notes were not coming out, and I thought it was something in the headjoint. I went here only on recommendations from others--and was glad I did. Rodney stopped what he was working on to have a look at it, and within a few minutes determined that the cork in the headjoint was misaligned, and screwed it back into place. He even did some other minor work and made sure it played well. Best of all, there was no charge for it, and he was cordial about it. I had forgotten my cleaning rod there, and went back a few days later, and he had it with others, so I was able to retrieve it. My flute now plays fine. Definitely the place to go. more

Amazing service, quality 11/5/2011

We walked into a decently crowded Marsh Woodwinds on a Saturday afternoon with an underperforming clarinet. They took us right away, and instead of writing up a work order and telling us to come back in a week, Peter talked us through the problem, helped diagnose several things that could be improved, recommended a different reed, worked on the instrument for about a half an hour, and replaced a few worn-out parts. He did an amazing job, and I would be embarrassed to say how little he charged. The service was so good and the price so low, I felt like we had been transported back to the 1950s. It was probably the best repair experience I have had in the last 20 years. Pros: null Cons: null more

Old-School Service and Courtesy 9/9/2011

I first went to Marsh's on the advice of the middle school band director when my daughter's clarinet needed emergency surgery. Three additional band kids later, I am a die-hard fan! Rodney and his staff really know the music business and are there to serve the local music community - students, performers, and instructors. The place is cluttered and homey, and the repair staff are the best anywhere. Retail supplies inventory can be sparse, but the instrument repair service is superb, and priced ridiculously low. And the advice is free! Check out the upstairs room, if you want to be a real insider. more

top notch 5/15/2009

We take our daughters' flutes, piccolos, and clarinet here for service on a regular basis. The service is fast and reasonably priced. The store is really unique and fun to browse through, and they have a complete line of accessories available. We usually purchase reeds there and have gotten a stand and an instrument case there as well. I won't go anywhere else! more
