Warning: Marix is not actually Tex-Mex. The queso tastes like it was made from powdered cheese, or stale velveeta at best. The food was ok, for LA-style Mexican, but the long wa...

Great food and people watching 4/15/2006

No, the place is not weird. Honey, you're in West Hollywood. Do you expect any restaurant to not have a gay presence? If you're hung up on that, get over it. Onto the food. Can I just say that the salsa is the best I've ever had? Ever! It's chunky, fresh and homemade. The entrees are the typical mex-food offerings, and everything I've had has been good. Prices are reasonable. Yes, there's usually a wait for a table. It has a fun and friendly vibe. I would say anyone is welcome and no one should feel out of place. more

OK, this place is weird... 6/19/2005

I tried this "restaurant" because my fiance had a hankering for Tex-Mex or Sonora Mexican cuisine. I read some reviews on various sites, and thought it sounded like it was worth checking out. In a couple reviews I read a few comments that described the restaurant as being, "kid friendly and a romantic environment." I experienced this spot first hand, and unless you are homosexual or consider a group of homosexual men "kids", or find loud noise and an awkward environment romantic, then I think you would have to disagree with those statements. I wouldn't really describe this place as being a restaurant either... This place is far more like a bar, and well a gay bar. My fiance and I really felt out of place being there, as a heterosexual couple, and the minority. The food overall was of good quality but no better in flavor and taste than On the Border's restaurant. The tables were crammed together, and the wait to get seated was horrendous. There were a lot of people that came out dressed in club gear, looking as if they were trying to find a date also. I dunno.. if you like that kind of thing maybe you'd find this spot interesting. But, I sure didn't. more
