my loan with this company was a take over from another....will NEVER recommend this company to anyone....for years I have been asking for a statement and they cant give me a real reason on why they don't send one. was told as of 2014 all bank related loans are suppose to get a statement, never got one yet. i have to call then every month to get a payoff amount and how do i know its correct..then the website is terrible. it only allows you to pay on the loan . sent letters to the Baltimore office never got a response back. so i may be getting ripped off and don't even know about it and my loan could be less then what it is....but unfortunately i am unable to pay it off quicker then i want to..the sad part is that this company THINKS it running a good business more

These people are ruthless crooks. DO NOT do business with them. I called to pay off the last stub of my payment book and they claim I owe them $1005.00, when in reality, I owe them one last payment of $82.00, which is my monthly payments. When I told them I don't owe them over a thousand dollars, they behaved threateningly, saying that I owe all these ridiculous charges on my account - CHARGES I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT in all the time they CLAIM the charges were accrued. This bank PREYS on people who are in tough straights. They intentionally DO NOT WARN customers of the hidden charges they claim are accruing, and seek to destroy your credit if you don't give them the money they suddenly claim you owe them. I paid ALL of my payment stubs and for my loyal payments, they pull this trick. DO NOT under any circumstances go near this bank. more

2nd loan 3/11/2012

I'm on my 2nd loan with Mariner. I am rebuilding credit after a bankruptcy 3 years ago. I have had no problems with them whatsoever and always pay on time. I can't relate to the bad reviews because I have never missed a payment. It seems if you're able to pay on time they're a good resource. If you're not, you probably shouldn't take this loan. My ONLY complaint is that they only report to one credit bureau. more

crooks? 2/29/2012

i have been reading all the reviews on mariner finance and i have used them once before my currant loan and i was able to pay all my paymrnts on time and i sure am glad i did as these reviews were not good at all! hopefully i will be able to pay my next two patments on time as i knew going in that i was dealing with loan sharks as the interest rate is way to high ,but i had no chioce i couldn't get a loan at any decent loan office ie banks etc. as i had a bankruptcy some years back. as i will reenterate i knew going in i was dealing with loan sharks and to pay my payments on time they even tried to sign me up for 24 patments instead of the 12 months i requested ! i thanked them i confirmed i did not want a 24 months paymrnt plan as i wanted this loan payed off asap . they didn't say but i assume they were going to hit me with another 12 months interest witch would have been around 700.00 dollars on a 1700.00 dollar loan LOL!!!! when i borrowed 4200.00 from ge money bank interest free 12 months same as cash but they couldn't loan me the whole amount as this is why i had to go to mariner finance . if you know going in what your dealing with don't complain and don't borrow from high risk companies thats why they are there, i assume your credit wasn't good to start with or you wouldn't have used such high interst loan company ! just my observation!!!! bell vue bev more

Great service for fast cash 12/4/2011

I was looking for some fast cash to pay off a few credit cards, or to at least lower my balances. I googled loans, and mariner fiance showed up. I had filled out the information needed, and the next day I received a call from my local branch telling me I was approved for a loan, and I was able to come in same day to fill out paper work, I could get the cash today. I was amazed. She told me what I needed to bring with me, and was very friendly on the phone. When I went to the office, I was greeted with respect, and the process was very easy. She told me that it would be easier to go to the local PNC bank and get the check cashed because my bank would delay the amount being available in my account, and I would be able to just take the cash and deposit in my account, which I did. It was so simple, she was so helpful. Also, 2 weeks later I received my coupon book in the mail for my payments. I see nothing wrong with their system, nor why people are complaining about their service. They yes have additional fees, like mine was for my title, the MVA fee, and then a life insurance fee which is standard for anyone who takes loans out. Its a safety net for them, so they don't lose the money. I have had nothing but great service with them, and would recommend them for anyone needing fast cash. more

Wouldn't Recommend Mariner Finance to ANYONE!!!!!!! 12/10/2010

I purchased a vehicle from a lot that ended up selling my account to Mariner Finance in July 09' now, the same month (July 09') I was laid off of my job and applied for unemployment. When my account went to Mariner Finance they had added a unemployment Insurance on the Car loan. Which at the time sounded needed. So anyway they (The Unemployment Insurance CO.) paid my loan payment during the time I was off of work unemployed but I had to come into the office weekly or even bi-weekly to sign forms to be submitted to them for the payment and bring my unemployement check to send a copy of it. well anyway. I alway spoke to the Manager who seem to be very nice and professional. So I just went back to work but it's a Temp assignment I came into the Office to bring my last Check to send to the Insurance Co. and while there the Manager asked about the new job and wanted to know how they were going to pay me etc. So he said just pay $100 a week when I get paid and they will work with that. I said ok thank you and he said we're going to work with you. so with that being said. the Friday I got my first check I went out of town for the weekend but stopped by the office and dropped off the $100 to them on Monday when I got back in town on Wednesday morning heading out to work I notice my car was gone I didn't see any glass on the ground so I thought about Mariner but didn't know why it would be picked up. well anyway I called them when the store opened and a guy their answered and he told me that I was 3 months behind. (remind you that the insurance company was paying my notes.) he could give me any info on the payments they have been paying etc. so then he said hold on I'll let you speak to the Manager (which is the one I normally speak too) he came to the phone. He came to the phone with an attitude and was getting upset because I was asking too many questions. He said that the Insurance Co. paid short some months. so I asked why he didn't tell me that and told me to only pay $100 wach week. he said it don't matter he has my car and it was behind he hung up on me twice because I was asking too many questions that he didn't want to answer. he told me that he didn't have to take my call because he don't normally come in until 9a but he went ahead and took my call off his shift. he told me that it would cause $660.xx to get the car back so I asked where could I go get my items out of the car until then. he said he don't know it could be at any of the many lots they use. He told me he would call me back when he finds out. hours later he called back to give me the information to get my items and I then asked to verify again the amount to get the car back and he said $ 8600.00 I then repeated the amount and said so I have to pay the payoff amount and he said YEAH! so I told him I will be going to get my items out of the car. I then asked for the name of the person over him and he said well you can talk to him but you can leave him a message I told him don't worry about it I'm going to get a lawyer and let him or her take care of all that. I think Mariner Finance is not a finance Co. You would want to work with because you will loose before you gain. They must be hurting for money and finding accounts to make quick bucks from. more

Not Recommended at all! 11/9/2010

I was given a loan by Mariner Finacne for ~$4,000 with 2 years same as cash in October of 2008. I divided the amount by roughly 24 and tried to pay it off in the 2 years. In June of 2010 I called for an account balance just to make sure we were on target. The amount I wrote down over the phone was apparently 10 dollars short. I'm not sure if the miscommunication was on my end or Mariner Finance's but because I was 10 dollars short the interest part of the loan kicked in and they now want to charge me ~$1,100. I spoke with two different people at the bank and they both basically said I had to pay it and there was no way to change this policy. The 10 dollar shortage may technically be a violation of the contract but because the penalty was so much greater than the amount of the shortage it seemed to me (who has no legal background) that it might be predatory lending. I would greatly prefer to have Mariner Finance simply being kind to recognize a simple small error and not charge us the interest. I will have to investigate any legal options as it is obvious that I was in good faith trying to pay off the loan in the interest free period? more

I'm not so sure about this Company 9/28/2009

Hi Everyone!\r \r I Have applied for a Loan. I was not made aware of the extra accidental death and dismember insurance they put into the loan Documents. Will let you know if they remove it. It was more that half the of the amount borrowed. Pros: People seem Very Nice From the Start. Cons: I will Keep You all Updated soon. more

They MySpace You! 5/30/2009

I don't know about you, but I do not enjoy sitting down at my computer after a long day at work, cracking open a nice cold beer to try and relax from the frustrations of working too hard and making too little with an economy that is falling apart just to open my My Space account and see a message from.... a Mariner Finance employee reminding me that my bill is late?\r \r Last I checked My Space is a SOCIAL networking site, not a place to collect debt or conduct business.\r \r \r Yeah and they also call me and my cosigner about 5 times every day, at home on the cell... where ever they can get ahold of me.\r \r And let me just say, this is my FIRST time EVER being late with them. They must REALLY need the 60 bucks I owe them.... Pros: You know when you're late. Cons: Extremely unprofessional. more
