I must say that Maria's did a very nice job on my order, but my goodness on the prices!!!! I did not ask on the day of my fitting about the costs, and I certainly should have. T...

Horrific experience 7/14/2011

After being recommended by a friend, I came to Maria with a dilemma. My bridesmaid's dress was too small. I had extra fabric on the way and the store that I bought the dress from was certain it would not be a problem to fix the dress. When I tried on the dress for Maria she asked me why I needed the dress. When I explained, she told me you need to tell your friend you will not wear this dress. I cannot fix it. It is not flattering on you at all. When I got upset she stated, ""It seems like you care very much for your friend, but she does not care much for you or she would not have chosen this dress for you."" I left horrified. The bridal shop recommended another seamstress who took 3 minutes to look at the dress and told me she would have it back in a week. No problems and you cannot tell anything was done to the dress. Please do not be a client to this horrible business. more

TERRIBLE. 4/19/2011

So angry. I went in to Maria's to have a gown hemmed for an event. It was too big in the top, so Maria decided to take it in the middle. BAD IDEA. It was wrong. ALL WRONG. It looked awful. I tried to tell her to fix it and showed her the problem (it was gathered at the bottom of the chest) and she showed me her other dresses. No. Maria could not understand that this was all wrong and that it looked awful. Frustrated and in tears, I walked out. The alterations (which I refused to pay) cost more than the dress. Such a waste of my time. I do not recommend at all. She was trying to tell me that I was wrong, when really, she was. Another one of my friends has a similar story except this time, Maria hemmed it too short to even wear without shoes. more

Frustrated with Maria's 12/16/2010

The last time I went to Maria's alterations I left feeling like I had been completely ripped off. I originally went in there with 2 pair of designer jeans to be hemmed. She measured me, told me the price (it was high, but I agreed), and said she would have them ready in a week. I told her I was concerned they would still be too long, but she insisted this is how they should look and I will like them when she is done, guaranteed. I went to pick them up, paid, and when I tried them on at home, yep they were still too long. I went back the next day, with my husband and some of his clothes to be altered since they seemed so attentive and concerned with getting the job done right. I said, I am sorry to come back the next day, but my jeans are still too long. She said, ""oh, ok, we'll take care of it for you."" Well, I completely took that as, they were going to ""take care of me"", and not recharge full price again. Especially since I told her from the get go they looked like they would be too long and brought in more work for her from my husbands closet since she ""guaranteed"" I would be happy with them once they were done. Well, MUCH to my surprise, when I went to pick them up a week later, yep she charged me again FULL PRICE for the jeans she did not finish to my liking the first time. I was absolutely shocked. I felt my face get red with anger and disbelief. $24 for one pair of jeans, x2 = $48... So, ya I had to pay in total $96 to get my jeans back, because they couldn't get it right the first time. I would NEVER go back or recommend them to anyone. more

Nice Work, but Very High Prices 9/28/2009

I must say that Maria's did a very nice job on my order, but my goodness on the prices!!!! I did not ask on the day of my fitting about the costs, and I certainly should have. The charges were $25 and $30 respectively for cuffs on shirts. Hem was $15, which was more reasonable. I have always had my clothes altered, and I have never paid quite this much. Bottom line .... ask the fees before you leave your clothes. Pros: Well done alterations Cons: Prices! more

$25 to repair a zipper on a pair of jeans? 10/10/2008

$25 to replace a zipper on a pair of jeans - enough said. I was told the jeans would be ready on Thursday. By Friday, I still had not heard anything and called. Maria answered and was talking to another customer, presumably in the store, while she held me on te line before even acknowledging me. After she finished up her conversation, she said hello and after I asked about my jeans she told me they were ready. I wonder when she was planning to call and tell me that? That's when she dropped the $25 bombshell. The prices were not clearly disclosed up front. This is clearly a rip-off unless the zipper is made from 24 karat gold. Needless to say I will not be using Maria's Alterations again. more
