Best

This is the best restaurant anywhere for VERY authentic Chinese Food. I lived in Beijing, China for three years and the menu at Margaret Kuo's makes me feel like I'm still in Chi...

Worst

For the price, the food is disappointing. Most of the dishes tasted OK, but some ingredients were not fresh, had to send a dish back.

Delicious food 11/9/2008

Just got takeout from Margaret Kuo's in Wayne. Food was EXCELLENT! I was expecting it to be much pricier since there were no prices listed on the takeout menu. Spent around $45 for two orders of vegetarian sushi, a seaweed salad, and two entrees. Definitely money well spent!! more

food pretty good but too pricey 6/30/2008

I would not have any complaints about this restaurant if it were a lot cheaper. $6 for tea?? (which they claim was sencha but I'm not sure I even believe--the quality seemed low and taste was bland). the food was good and the ambiance was very nice but for the price you could do better at other sushi restaurants. It's a nice resto, but a typical Main Line place where you pay more just for location. If I went again, I would get the appetizer vegetable tempura as the entree version was huge. Pros: ambience, good for a date Cons: very expensive more

Disappointing... 1/18/2007

What a disappointing experience! Reading other's reviews about this restaurant, my expectations were high... However, the service was terrible and the prices were too high for what you were served. Having eaten in other Chinese restaurants all over the world (China included), calling this an authentic Chinese restaurant is misleading. As another reviewer mentioned, the duck was way too dry. If a ""Chinese"" restaurant can't serve duck the way it was meant to be eaten, then shame on them for even calling themselves chinese. I understand that not every dish will be executed to perfection 100% of the time. But to have two people who have been to the restaurant and both have the same complaints is unacceptable. Why they keep winning is beyond me. Pros: Nice restaurant Cons: Food and service more

Extremely poor service. Food is just average. 9/19/2006

FOOD: AVERAGE. Though it is hard to find good authentic chinese food on the mainline. I'd say Margaret Kuo's food is just average. The Peking duck was overcooked, the meat was dry. The braised ox tail was tough, probably need another hour of braising. The shrimp and also the egg plant was cold when brought to the table. In terms of flavour, it was average but I was extremely disappointed at the temperature of the food. One of the most important aspect of Chinese cooking is ""wok hei"" (heat from the frying wok) and I definitely don't see it there.\r \r SERVICE: NON-EXISTENT. 4 adults and 1 toddler weny on Sunday night and the restaurant was full. We did not have reservation but were warmly welcomed to a booth seat. However, I noticed there were only two (2) waiters serving the whole restaurant. It took a while before we were given menus. The food took a long time to arrive (and the food was cold). The waiter never ever came back to check on us. We had to literally stand up and flag one of the waiters down for more tea. Later on, I believe the manager was on the floor but he was not at all friendly to us. We asked for the bill and that also took forever. It was disappointing. \r For an upscale restaurant in Wayne, they have a lot more to catch up in terms of service.\r To receive such poor service, it made me wonder if it was because we had a toddler with us. I also notice another table with a family of four having a hard time to get service. The lady had to stand up and do the ""big wave Hello"" in order to get service.\r When I received bad service, I ofter wonder if I had done something wrong but I believe we all behaved.\r I would not go back, definitely. I didn't try their Japanese food though, but I would go to Hana which is down the road, at least it is run by a Japanese family! Pros: Can't think of one. Maybe the decoration. Cons: Poor service. Food was cold. more

The Best Authentic Chinese Food Period! 5/24/2006

This is the best restaurant anywhere for VERY authentic Chinese Food. I lived in Beijing, China for three years and the menu at Margaret Kuo's makes me feel like I'm still in China! The prices are very reasonable for the Main Line and the service is always friendly and helpful. We also love the Japanese dining room upstairs. The sushi is the BEST! We like how they stick to authentic cuisine and don't ruin it with any type of fusion. They also have a banquet room where we had a party for 120 people. It was the best time. Thank you Margaret! We will be back! Pros: Authentic Cuisine, Ambiance, Friendly Service Cons: Crowded Weekends more

My Favorite Chinese Food on the Main Line 4/8/2006

I have eaten there or done take out over thirty times. Every experience has been perfect. You can get traditional chinese food in the same price range as other typical chinese places or splurge and get a different and more expensive meal. I usually splurge when I eat there (the presentations are beautiful) and order more ordinary fare when I do take out. The best. Pros: Food, Value more

Obscenely expensive for what you get!! Much better restaurants in the area that are more reasonably priced. And the menu? Nothing authentic about it, more like an Asian Fusion place.. more

Fireworks! 7/10/2004

You couldn't ask for a more perfect experience than the one I had at Margaret Kuo's this July 4th. From the moment my date and I stepped into this dimly lit, elegant (but not stuffy) restaurant, to the moment we left, we were treated with the utmost of respect. The service was perfect and swift, friendly without being cloying. And the food! Oh, the mind reels! The body swoons! I ordered Tofu With Portabella Mushrooms, which I'd never seen offered anywhere else. It was, hands down, one of the best tofu dishes I have ever had anywhere. I am still daydreaming about it. The next time I'm in the area, I'm going back. How could I not? Pros: Innovative Dishes, Fantastic service more
