This place is good, so glad they deliver. I love having healthy options for delivery. Mistake that the other locations do not make it this easy to order for delivery. Other locations always screw up the order and Spruce Street has been perfect so far. Only gripe is that the Salmon entree although delicious, Salmon portion was disappointing. Also, wish the veggie chili went back to the bulgar instead of the chickpeas. So blah with the chickpeas. more

It's actually better to go and sit at this Marathon. If you happen to want to stay home at night and you live in the neighborhood and prefer to just order in, it's a nightmare. Every single time I've ordered from these people, they ALWAYS mess up my order. They either don't get me what I ask for, forget items or their menu constantly changes and they never update it online so that the customer is aware of the changes. I find myself trying to decide on at least 3 items because they're always running out of items or discontinuing an item that I really liked on the menu. It's too pricey for what they offer and for the lack of bad service I've consistenly received when ordering. A restaurant should not only be good when you go there, but also when you place an order. They should really consider revising their $$, too. While the food is good, it's certainly not worth that kind of money. Love the place! 12/5/2008

Love the Marathon on the Square!!!!!!!!!!! The nicest, most friendly, professional staff ever!!! Its a treat to go out for breakfast at this joint! The oven roasted chicken salad sandwich is to die for. Everything is good, you will not be disappointed. The other Marathons do not compare especially 13th and Chestnut and 10th and Walnut, just terrible. Love you Marathon on the Square! Never change! more

large menu, solid service, excellent ambience compared to other marathons 7/29/2006

We have tried every Marathon location many times, and Marathon on the Square is consistently better than the rest. Better selection than the other Marathons, food always hot (when it's supposed to be) and fresh, waitstaff always accommodating of special requests. The ambience is much nicer, too, just be sure you don't get seated too close to either the front door or the air conditioning vent! Anyway, we have eaten here hundreds of times over the years, and have enjoyed virtually every meal. It is also the ""go to"" place when out-of-towners visit. Repeat visitors always ask to go back. There are a number of long-time waitstaff, but every so often a new waiter pops up--don't judge your service by one visit. Also don't judge the food by how well it keeps when carrying out or getting delivery. Definitely an excellent choice for brunch, lunch, and dinner! Pros: varied and tasty menu, breakfast avail all day, doesn't break the bank Cons: can get pretty packed for sat and sun brunch more

Marathon on the Square is definitely a place where you figure out what's good and stick to it. Trying new things hasn't exactly worked out for me. Here's what's good: (1) low fat tuna & turkey sandwiches (mmmmm...sprouts) & (2) for something on the other end of the calorie spectrum--try the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pancakes!!! Delivery is a plus, but some things don't taste so good in marathon's paper and plastic containers: not a fan of soggy grilled cheese, the mac and cheese, the soups... Pros: Delivery more

Life support for Center City. 2/10/2006

If you live or work in Center City, this place will be the only food you ever eat. Sure, there are better restaurants near Rittenhouse, but we almost always order in, and this is the only real food that travels well. If you're like us, you don't really care what neophytes think of the interior design. The food always comes superfast, and while french fries don't travel well, everything else does. Posh Marathon, less than desireable 6/25/2005

I have never been displeased with Marathon Grill's food. A frequent take-out, delivery and in-house diner I assumed this famed ""Marathon on the Square"" would keep up with expectations its title conveys. While it offers a more posh, romantic and trendy ambience and atmosphere that is delightful for brunch, lunch or dinner, I've found the service to be less than desirable. I found my servers, on more than one occasion, to be snooty and in once instance, impatient. The class I had counted on was absent and I was disappointed. The total package did not measure up for myself, but if you value atmosphere over service than I recommend it, but if you'd like to enjoy quality service than head over to the 16th and Locust Marathon, they serve service up with a smile. great salads 10/16/2004

Menu here has a lot of variety. Their Cesar salads are one of the best I have ever had. The location in Univesity City has great outdoor dining and cool atmosphere. I like being able to choose between a ceasar salad or fries with my meal. Large portion sizes. The chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich is excellent. Large enough for two to share. The cookie is warm and soft with ice cream in the center and whipped cream around the edges. A great all around American meal. The only thing that could be improved is a little bit better service. They seem a little bit slow to bring out your meal. Pros: Large Menu, Good Salads more

Corporatised Diner? 7/17/2004

I have enjoyed almost all the meals that I've had here. The menu is relatively diverse and the selections pretty good. Brunch is excellent. But I always feel like everything on the menu is just a few dollars too expensive for what it is, especially considering that the atmosphere is pretty corporate. more

Comfortable 6/16/2004

While many critics of Marathon refer to it as ""nothing more than"" an upscale diner, I see that as part of the appeal. While never passing for fine dining, it is a great spot to eat comfort food and people-watch on a rainy night. Although the burgers are only fair, their chicken, salmon, and tuna sandwiches are quite good. My personal favorite is the chicken pot pie, which is huge and piping hot, just like home made, but without the 3 hours of cooking time. Another point in Marathon's favor is that it is fairly versatile, appropriate for either a meal or just a few drinks. They also show movies on a drop-down screen every Wednesday night at 9. I go at least twice a week! 1/14/2003

MOTS has a great brunch Saturday and Sunday. The place gets crowded so you have to expect to wait a bit on weekends. The waitstaff is generally very good and not obnoxious, pushy or annoying you every few minutes. I live down the street and enjoy going during the weeknights for a drink and meeting friends. It's a great neighborhood place. I have recommended it to many people and will continue. Pros: attractive workers, chill atmosphere Cons: crowded for brunch more

I've eaten and drank here several times, and the food, service and ambiance is always lovely. Fish, salad, or burgers are always classic and tasty, and all for a reasonable price. Pros: reasonable prices, good food, no wait more
