Worse place to go too. 3/17/2010

Please dont go here the staff is rude, big time attitude.. Dr. Brooks is always getting ready to make a buck, and I definitely agree with the person who commented on Dr. Brooks. Go to Ladera Pet Clinic, they are nice and the Dr,Hines is very easy to talk too. more

Quick with up sell and a lack of bedside manner & compassion 6/12/2009

Save your time, money, and your animal?s dignity and find a different vet. From a layman?s view I believe Dr Brooks is competent as a vet however I feel she doesn?t listen and is rather rude. I took my old cat in because he was getting thin. After 600$ of tests and X-rays several things were ruled out and it appeared the problem was cancer. My cat was old and I felt it was my duty to make his remaining time comfortable and wanted to avoid invasive actions. I expressed this to the Dr. and had to insist that I didn?t want to spend another 100$ on an ultrasound to be told what we already knew. A month after this visit my cat was having more difficulty and we took him back. He was with Dr. Moor this time and was held overnight then released. His condition worsened and a week later I took him back to see Dr Brooks. After she rudely gasped at the cat?s condition she told me there was little she could do, but offered to take a 100$ X-ray. After I declined the up sell she quickly turned her back to me and left the room. Luckily there was one vet tec that was compassionate and helped clean my cat up and recommended a good vet for home euthanasia. Pros: none Cons: Rude, indifferent, out to take your $ more

GREAT Vet!!! 6/23/2008

I brought my new puppy to Mar Vista and saw Dr. Brooks. The reception staff was terrific. The kindest people in a customer service position that I have came across in years. I was suggested a puppy well package to take care of everyhting. I had a pleasant experience with the Dr., reception, and the tech staff as well. more

bad vet 3/12/2008

I took my cat here for almost a year when he became very sick. The reception staff was rude and unfriendly. The vet could not diagnose my cat and rather than tell me she didn't know or recommend a specialist, she kept saying lets try this, and now lets try this. My cat is not a guinea pig and meanwhile she was charging me for a lot of expensive and fruitless tests! In the end my cat got much sicker under her care and I later learned that my cat had an illness that would have been curable had it been caught a year before. I met other patients there who had the same problems. Go some place else. more

Two good Doctors, but too much money 9/1/2007

It is great that they have separate dog and cat entrances. Dr. Moore and Dr. Brooks are both very good doctors. But, after I've seen Dr. Brooks, my bill is always very high. She whisks the cat away for "tests" and $300 later, my cat comes out the same and I'm $300 poorer. Dr. Moore is very practical. She gives me my options and lets me decide. I always feel like she empathizes with me, the owner of 3 cats. Dr. Brooks generally gives me one, very expensive option and she's all business. She may be a great Dr. but she spends more time with my credit card than with my cat. It is best to be informed about what you need and what you can afford before you take the animal in. Bay Cities does a senior hemo panel including urinalysis for much less. If you're going to Mar Vista, go on a day when Dr. Moore is in. Pros: Decent prices for vaccines, rescue work and Dr. Moore is great Cons: Sometimes mis-diagnose and Dr. Brooks is all business and looking to make money more

Iffy care, misdiagnoses and an injured grooming victim.... 3/11/2006

I have taken my small dogs here at one time or another over a period of eleven years. Although three dogs had very different symptoms, in all cases, years apart, they were all diagnosed with "Pancreatitis" after much costly testing. Symptoms did not resolve at all with the care they recommended. I finally took the dogs to Dr. Alan Schulman at Animal Medical Center, now on Sepulveda. The first dog had impacted bowels and NOT pancreatitis, I was out HUNDREDS of dollars and my dog suffered needlessly for days. In the second case my dog had a bacterial infection as a result of an allergy which Mar Vista left untreated..In the third and last case, my dog was brought here just to have a vaccine and his anals expressed. My dog screamed during the process and it turned out my poor dog had a perforated rectum where they botched a simple grooming procedure. It makes me sad and furious to even THINK about that!!! I am most unhappy with their level of care. I understand it's possible to make a mis more

Basic animal medical center in Mar Vista 11/15/2005

I took my cat here for his annual shots. The wait is usually between 10-15 minutes before seeing a doctor. The staff is professional. The place is not huge, but they get the job done. They also sell pet products such as food, flea medicine, etc. The hours are 8 to 6, and they are open weekends including Sunday which is convenient. more

Satisfactory care 7/25/2005

I decided to go to this veterinary clinic as I had heard there were female vets there. One of my dogs has a fear of men and I felt this would make things easier on both of us. I found the front desk people to be unfriendly if not cold. I brought my dog in for a rabies shot and to be microchipped. They took her in the back to get the shot, and though they were advised she also needed the microchipping they forgot about it. When I reminded them, the vet looked really irritated when she came out to get the dog again. I haven't brought my pets here for anyt serious illnesses, but the lack of warmth and friendliness with just the vaccinations and microchipping I do not plan on returning. Their prices are reasonable. PROS: Reasonable prices CONS: Poor attitude on the part of doctors and staff more
