Best

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my daughter's bat mitzvah at Mantra Restaurant. It was a fabulous experience in every regard. The food was great, the price reasonable (...

Worst

Food is good, but the 2 hour wait for food is not. Consistently takes that long for delivery. Not worth it.

GREAT EVENT SPACE 3/29/2007

We had a limited menu so i can't comment for a whole experience, but for what it was the food was excellent and anticipating great experience on my return. The office was honoring our CEO from overseas and he is a hard man to please but Mantra did a great job. They do need new furniture. What was there was not impressive. The staff shined and the overall experience was an A+. Our event coordinator (Paola) was very impressive. Was at our beck and call all evening. Om Bar was a great dinner choice. Pros: Impressive staff and food more

BEST DINING EVER 3/15/2007

impressive space and beautiful decor. The restaurant is very Miami chic from the front lobby to the Om Bar on the lower level. The space turns into a lounge in the evening which fits perfectly with the concept. The staff was very friendly even to four female patrons that were very annoying and spoke consistenly about the rude hostess. The noisy chatter almost made us leave. But the evening was saved by our great waiter and the food was very good and on time. First time that we were offered an amuse bouche at any of the restaurant that we frequent so you know that little extra touch will have coming back. Monday wine tasting will be our next project at this venue and if this night is any comparison we will be having a great time. Good job, keep it up.... Pros: Great staff, great food Cons: Noisy space more

Unfriendly atmosphere 3/14/2007

The unfriendliness of the staff (with limited exceptions) is notable. The hostess who answered a telephone inquiry was disdainful (Q: ""What is the charge for valet parking?"" A:""$15 [sound of phone slamming down]."". In person the greeting ""crew"", consisting of two hostesses, were even more unfriendly and uncaring. During the meal the busser in clearing the soup reached across one of the guests and spilled soup on him. No apology followed, but that fit the atmosphere. During Restaurant Week, when many restaurants offer between 7 to 10 choices, Mantra offered only three. No changes were allowed. The good news is that the restaurant is consistent: specifically, the unfriendliness of the hostess ""crew"" apparently extends across all ages of patrons, based on other reports. No apparent reason to return to this place. more

BEST EXPERIENCE FROM RESTAURANT/CLUB 3/14/2007

Colleague of mine came in for restaurant week and left very disappointed so i was not looking forward to my business dinner set up through a client. Was looking to a very apprenhensive evening full of apologies. The apologies never surfaced and the experience was the best i have ever had at a restaurant. Very accomodating staff. I am a picky eater and every nuance that i had was met with no awkwardness. The lamb was delicious and the drinks were very tasty. Ask for Lynn the bartender, she is definetely one of thier crown jewel at Mantra. The evening crowd started filtering in but you could see the managers controlling every aspect of their guests dining experience like a traffic cop. I recommend not making a dinner reservation past 10 pm or you will suffer the noise and heavy traffic from their club crowd. Great night out. Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT DRINKS Cons: HARD TO FIND more

AMAZING NIGHT OUT 3/12/2007

Finally made it to Mantra after so many colleagues rave about the food and the space and i am now convinced that this will be the hottest spot in Boston in the coming year. So much has been made of the club scene but the restaurant part of it should not be ignored. Our waiter was slightly under the weather with everyone catching the flu but he was stellar in his performance. The food for incredible for what restaurant week usually offer. We were ready for a measly serving of what most restaurant like to offer as a sampling but not at Mantra. The portions were great and the sauces were incredible. The dessert were out of this world and the homemade ice cream was very smooth and tasty. If you haven't been to this restaurant then you should mark it on your calendar this year to have dinner at MANTRA.. Pros: FOOD, STAFF, AMBIANCE more

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE IN BOSTON EVER!! 3/11/2007

Go anywhere but here! Awful service. Mediocre food. We were treated rudely from the moment we walked in the door ? starting with being gruffly informed that ?it was going to be a while? and that ?there were a LOT of people ahead of us? despite our confirmed reservation. The concept of customer does not exist at Mantra. We were finally seated after close to an hour of waiting. We placed our order with our stone-faced waiter, and then we waited, and waited?for over an hour until they brought out our entrees BEFORE our appetizers. A brief apology was made for this, but nothing more. Food was ok, but nothing great. And the creme brulee we ordered for dessert was awful and bore no resemblance to creme brulee. I don?t know how this place stays open, I will never return! Cons: rude staff, mediocre food more

Good food, poor service 3/10/2007

Really beautiful space. Went w/ my boyfriend for Restaurant Week. The menu was mediocre: a plain, boring salad was one appetizer option, and they had a steak option for entrees....a STEAK at a restaurant that serves Indian fusion. They don't have steak knives, fyi. The food was delicious, for the most part. Flavor combos are innovative and well executed. The format of the wine list makes it tough to navigate, but the selection is wonderful. Our waiter was unengaging and and unattentive, and silverware and dirty plates weren't cleared/replaced in a timely fashion - that may sound petty, but if a restaurant wants to be high-end, the service should be high-end. Pros: Great space, great location, interesting, tasty food Cons: Lackluster service, pricey regular menu more

Restaurant week rave 3/7/2007

My girlfriends and I take advantage of restaurant week to help us each choose a new favorite restaurant for the year and working across from Mantra made it an easy choice for me. But more wonderful was the fact that the choice was the right one. Bit hectic by the overcrowded dinner scene but experience was great overall. The pace was urgent and clashed a bit at time but not overwhelming. Just one busser seemed focus on lethargy but was told that it was her first day. Foodrunner looked odd in a dinner jacket and no one else wore one. General Manager was busy serving wine and giving recommendation and it seem as if everyone was doing everyone else's job but their own. We even saw one of our favorite Manager from Mela serving there. We loved the place. The food was not a scaled down version of the menu as in most places during restaurant week. The portions were perfect and delicious. The trout was delicious and the creme sauce was out of this world. They do need to add a chocolate dessert (this will cost them a point with a lot of guests with a chocolate tooth). Happy to see the establishment back from the brink of disaster as we used to call it (used to be a bank - Brink..get it). This foodie is ecstatic to have made this choice. Let's see if my girlfriends can surpass this with their choices. Good luck Mantra and smart move getting rid of the ugly pus orange sofas. .. more

Honest doorman 3/6/2007

It's not everyday that you can say that a doorman at a club is honest. I mean every club we've been to, they either try to get cash from you or try to fatten up their line outside for a busy effect. But i guess at Mantra they have no problem telling you that they are not really busy at this time and if you want to check inside and then come back later just leave your name on the list. We were so blown away with their professionalism and their honesty that we frequent the club almost every Friday and Saturday night. Keep up the great job of understanding your guest profile. Pros: Professional door staff Cons: Valet are horrible more

Actor Lawrence Fishburne 3/6/2007

I mean what else can you say about a Hip Cool Club after you see the actor Lawrence Fishburne just hanging out with his son as if it's a regular occurence. It blew me away the way they just hung out with the staff while making fun of themselves. Just had drinks because the kitchen closed at 10 pm but what a surreal night. The crowd was great and the music was great. Pros: Celebrities Cons: Crowded Saturdays more

Great ambience but music could've been better 3/3/2007

I checked this place out Sat night after a grad school function. It's a great space and the club design is thoughtful and well-laid out. The toilets are unusual and not for the shy or self-conscious. The club overall had a good vibe and a good-looking crowd. The guys at the door were selective enough to make sure the crowd quality remained good but not to the point of being arrogant (though we got free passes which probably helped). The music was a bit ordinary though - it was all over the place, from top 40 stuff to hiphop to industrial house but the DJ didn't seem to know how to build rhythm and continuity - he was jumping from genre to genre which was annoying. Generally a loungey type club like Mantra, where people are hanging out but not really dancing hardcore (as there's not much of a dance floor) should be playing a lot more funky or handbag house (which is sadly lacking in Boston). Plus he didn't really mix the songs in and out - the song would abruptly end and a new one would start. Come on mate, if you're that bad at mixing tracks play a compilation dance CD or something. The quality of the DJ brings my rating down from an 8 to a 7. This place has a lot of potential if it gets a decent DJ to spin its vinyl as the other elements are in place. more

A hidden jewel 3/1/2007

My husband took me there for my birthday, he thought I would like... Man, I loved it ! The decor is absolutely amazing, very modern, and so sophisticated. You enter through a glazed glass door between two buildings - no wonder I didn't notice it before ! - then after a corridor, you arrive in the bar/lunge area, which is very cool, then in the back, behind the chain-mail curtains, there is the restaurant area. We were sitted in the back, at a little oval table, on the same side of the table, thus we would have the same view, of everything. There are many different spaces there too, a main dining area, but also several alcoves for private parties. The food we ordered was very good, cooked to excellence, and very tasty. This French-Indian fusion really works ! We were very nicely taken care of, we felt very private although in the main dining area, and really enjoyed the ambiance. we were not on for a late night, but will definitely come there for the after-dinner bar scene. The music played is very nice too. The check was a little steep, but well worth evey penny of it. Pros: ambiance, food Cons: price more

Gorgeous space 2/28/2007

A friend made a reservation for saturday night at Mantra. Thought it was only a club but surprise, surprise....Fell in love with the space as soon as i walked in. Service was superb. Most welcoming smile from the host which i found out was the manager but wouldn't know it as everyone seem to work seamlessly together to make our evening out a great experience. Order the tandoory shrimp and you will be in heaven. The vegeterian napoleon dish is amazing but fattening. My husband had the lamb dishwhich he raved about all night. The general manager inform us that they are trying to recapture their earlier success as a restaurant by introducing their amazing chef to the Boston landscape. I have to say to try no further because in my opinion, they have arrived. Congratulations on a job well done Pros: Service, Service, Service Cons: Nightmare parking more

Great appetizers, Great bar scene 2/24/2007

First time. I was at the bar and had some appetizers and everyone looked and tasted great. Saw the food that was going to the tables and was impressed with the dishes. Will be back for dinner Pros: Bar scene more

Unforgetable Meal 2/23/2007

After reading all the so-so reviews i was very skeptical about my friends from Boston choice of Mantra for our get together. Now, i have to say WOW, what a great choice. From the moment that we got greeted by the Maiter D' to the Wine Director to the servers, we didn't have time to catch our breath. We were overwhelmed by the great service without being bothered. The meals were amazing though the portions could have been a little more substantial. The food presentation alone will dazzle you prior to awakening your palate. I am totally addicted. Will come back every time i am in Boston... Pros: Gorgeous decor, amazing staff Cons: Parking more

GREAT FOOD, GREAT MUSIC 2/11/2007

Wow, what a good time. We went to Boston for the weekend and were skeptical about going here Pros: Service/Ambience/Food/Location Cons: can't think of one more
