Best

Outside of Chicago, this is the only other authentic pizza available. When in Chicago, it's Girodano's, but here in Austin, it's Mangia. My wife loves the thin Margherita on cru...

Excellent!! 10/31/2002

The most unbelieveably good pizza in a town full of average pizza. The food and the service are consistently excellent. Pros: Excellent taste, Great service Cons: Too few locations more

Awesome 10/30/2002

Great stuff! I always order the one with everything plus anchovies. Pros: good location, good food more

One of the best! 10/24/2002

Mangia is by far one of the best pizza restaurants around. Great taste and fresh ingredients make this pizza stand out. The only backdrop is that the prices are sort of high. Pros: taste great Cons: expensive more

obviously superior 10/6/2002

I've had Lou Malnati's and Gino's East in Chicago and Mangia compares favorably in every way, except that Lou's has a slightly denser and more buttery crust which I prefer. Mangia also has exotic toppings, such as gardiniera peppers, which those places lack. Many so-called pizza connoisseurs feel that NY style (flat, wide slices w/ extreme grease which will drip off the slice if it's held point-down) is the only true pizza. These folks will hate Mangia and are better off going to Saccone's. For the rest of us, Mangia is clearly the best pizza offering in the city and I suspect in a blind taste test it would beat most of its Chicago native competition. The service is also exceptional. I've had waitresses give me a 50% discount because they misheard my topping selection; this is very much the Austin way. Pros: quality, service more

OVERRATED OVERPRICED 9/22/2002

Mangia ""Chicago Pizza"" is okay for people who haven't a clue what good pizza taste like. Unfortunately there isn't anywhere in Austin where you can get good authenic pizza, that I've tried anyway. I have to admit that there are a few on this list that I haven't tried. Brick Oven used to be okay 20 years ago, but it doesn't seem to be the same any more. The only good thing about Mr. Gattis is that their phone number is easy to remember because of their jingle. Otherwise their pizza is a joke. If you ever visit Chicago, go to Pizza Uno to discover what real Chicago style pizza taste like. Ropolo's comes the closest to what good pizza (non-Chicago style) taste like. more

Pillsbury Dough Boy must be on the Board 9/9/2002

We tried Mangia for the first time today, ordering a medium sized stuffed spinach (which costs about $19)... I'll have to agree with the person who said way too much sauce and overrated. Maybe the thins are better? After scraping off the tangy and overwhelming sauce, you're left with this nasty doughy chunk of goopy bread and cheese/spinach which just wasn't that tasty for the price... (the sauce is on top, easy to take off). I dunno... I'd eat here again if I had to, but would prolly just get a thin cheese slice... hopefully they don't mess that one up. I never understand how some of these places end up in the Best Ofs... then again, I'm from Portland and Starbucks ended up in the one of the Best Ofs once, so clearly these things aren't to be trusted. more

Best pizza? how about overrated? 9/1/2002

Ok..Mangia's gives you very large, thick slices of pizza..so what? I have to say that they are way overrated. I've been there a few times (at different locations) and was disappointed each round. Not only did it take a long time just to get a personal pizza, but it had too much sauce and not enough flavor. Many people think this pizza is worth the price, but I say it's overrated and not worth the money. Pros: great location, good for kids Cons: slow service, overpriced, too much sauce more

I'd eat it every day 8/13/2002

Nothing beats a large Mangia Carnivore on white. Nothing. The only negative thing that I can say about Mangia is that their delivery area stops short of where I live. They also have great lasagna! Pros: The best pizza, The best lasagna Cons: Pricey for pizza, limited delivery more

Great 8/9/2002

Another old pizza place, right? WRONG. This is the best pizza place. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Cheap Cons: O.K Parking more

Worth the wait 8/9/2002

it is definitely worth the 30 minute wait for the stuffed pizza. call ahead, and there's no wait at all. Pros: Best pizza in town Cons: A little expensive more

Dino Bite 8/8/2002

The best in Austin. I recommend the Stuffed crust . more

Chicago-style pizza right here in Austin 8/6/2002

I went to Chicago for the first time recently and the pizza truly is great! Since I've been back, I've been eating Mangia's Chicago style pizza quite frequently. Very authentic! more

Chicago meets Austin 8/6/2002

GREAT Pizza. Reminds me of the being back in Chicago. Good lunch deals with salads. Other things on the menu are equally as good, but it will be impossible not to eat the Pizza! Service varies based on the time of day and the bathrooms are not always the cleaniest. Pros: Quality, Value Cons: parking more

OK, not that great 7/28/2002

Well its a local chain and its nearby, a plus. Cons: The pizza isn't that tasty; kind of bland for stuffed pizza. Too bad the nearest Pizzeria Uno is in Fort Worth; hint some friendly competition. Pros: Local Cons: Food is bland more

Mediocre 7/13/2002

I have eaten the famous Lou Malnati's Chicago style sausage pizza when I visited Chicago. I missed the taste so much that I decided to give Mangia a try. I got their sausage stuffed pizza and ended up very disappointed. The pizza was plain. I thought I was eating some pizza from Pizza Hut with a failure attempt at Chicago style. Definitely not worth the money. Pros: Close location Cons: Expensive more

Pizza??????? 5/21/2002

Garbage, over priced!!!!!!! not worth the money, not good at any price Cons: the food, the price more

not really chicago-style... 5/14/2002

The folks at Mangia haven't quite nailed the Chicago formula. But, given the sad state of pizza in Austin, this is one of the better options. Their delivery drivers are always cool hipsters too. more
