Looking for good American-Chinese food in ohio in general is not the best idea, and while the Mandarin does classify as American-Chinese---it doesn't dazzle. Located in downtown Oberlin, this restaurant caters mainly to families looking for a quick bite and college students looking for easy food that doesn't come from a cafeteria tray. None of the food is particularly interesting, nor is it particularly bad. The ambiance is centered on a small tank of koi, and is fairly typical and unobtrusive. The restaurant tends to be understaffed, and so service can be slow during peak hours but the waitresses are nontheless very well mannered and approachable. mandarin has some of the best Chinese food i have ever tried . the hot and sour soup is to die for. the dishes are all put on the table so you can try a little of every thing everyone else orders i love their eggplant dishes. they also have an apple dessert to die for if you come here you must try it. more
