Just OK, Sauce was good, but the Pizza overall was just average. 2/5/2008

I read the reviews, and I expected a great pizza. What I got was basically the same as Dominos or any other pizza place. Their website advertises that they are trying to set themselves apart from large chains, but the pizza doesn't accomplish that by any means. I much prefer I Love NY Pizza - near NC State, and I haven't found anything else that comes close in North Raleigh. Cons: The doors were dirty, and there wasn't a feeling of cleanliness about the place when I went. more

Worst I have ever had 1/19/2008

Awful tasting sauce, you can get better out of a jar! I have never gone back and never will. It reminded me of something I would send back and get my money back. In fact it was so bad I felt sick and almost stop eating pizza. Pros: Convient location from where I live Cons: Everything about it! more

Try before you buy a whole pie ... get a slice at lunch to see if it flies 9/8/2007

I love pizza. I?ve made pizzas and I worked in my father?s Italian restaurant. I grew up in NY/NJ and I?ve had my share of pizza. I used to think that all pizza is good, some are just better than others?not any more. The next time I want to try a pizza joint, I will get one slice first to see if I like it.\r \r I saw all the great reviews and the average rating was 4.5 stars so I gave it a try. How could so many people be wrong. I think the people at Mammoth Pizza are very nice but their style of pizza is not for me. It was close by to my apartment in Briar Creek but there are other pizzas worth the drive.\r \r The sauce tasted home made, but a bit over-seasoned for me and cooked a little too long. The crust on the medium pizza is relatively thick but on the extra large pie it's really thin. Almost like they use the same amount of dough for both sizes, they just stretch it more. The cheese on the XL pizza was very well done, dark brown and the medium was cooked just right.\r \r Pizzas I would recommend: Z Pizza in Cary for NY style (by far the best I've had in NC) and California Pizza Kitchen for something different\r Pizzas I will not try again: Brixx Wood Fired Pizza (too thin, lacking flavor and not very filling) and Mammoth.\r Pizzas I have not tried yet: Slice of New York Pros: It's not a chain pizza place Cons: In consistent pizzas from one size to another more

Fantastic Food, Fun People and customer service 7/17/2007

I usually don't write reviews about any place unless is a great place. The freshness of the food, the topping, the crust and the sauce is to die for. You can tell nothing on this pizza is frozen or processed from who know where. Organic veggies, salads. The staff always are upbeat and personal. It is nothing like calling pizza chains and getting some 18 year old that you can tell doesn't want to be there and could care less if you order or not. That is not service, and an fantastic product.\r \r I have been in the restaurant field for over 10 years and you simply can not please everyone and even tho you try to set a goal of 100% it in reality does not work that way.\r \r I have read the last review and I have been to Mammoth Pizza several times, delivery, carry out and dine in and the people listen to you. They are caring and go out of there way. Stores run out of stuff such as a 2 liter. This store does not even carry 2L, but if they get a request they go out of there way to get a 2L for you. Just because you are ony 7 miles away does not mean that you are the only customer that they have. I have ran restaurants before and one min you are dead and the next right after a phone call a rush comes in. They cant plan it. If you try the place the first time it opened and now trying it again, do you not think that they would not be a growing business? I do know that the owner will personally drive to a house to appoligize because he has done it with me when we had a smaller problem.\r My 2 cents is hands down great food, great people, fantastic service up and beyond and hey everyone has those days. Plus if you have only order in one year I just eat your part.\r \r Customer for Life Pros: Customer Service, caring and beyond what they just ""have"" to do Cons: Needs some pictures, but I there for the food, not for art. more

Bad food, bad service, avoid this place! 6/8/2007

I'll first give you a caveat - we ordered from this place when it first opened. Maybe it got better but I'm not about to find out. We ordered a pie and a 2 liter of soda (Coke or Pepsi, not sure which) and we were told to expect our food in 20-30 minutes. 45 minutes later, nothing, so we called. He's on his way. Fine. 15 minutes later, we called again. Still on his way (we live 7 MINUTES away - we were just being lazy). Right after our second call, our cold pizza showed up with a 2 liter of Mellow Yellow. Apparently they ran out of soda and the driver picked it up from the local gas station (and apparently the gas station only had Mellow Yellow! They should've just called, gave us an option or not accepted that part of the order at all - they had no problem charging us for it). \r \r We ate 2 bites of the pizza and it tasted like someone poured 4 pepper shakers all over the pizza (and while I like spicy food, this didn't seem intentional). It was inedible. The bigger pie won't make a bit of difference if you can't eat it. Everything about this pizza was awful from the taste to the delivery. When we called to complain we asked for the manager. I'm not sure if this guy was the manager or owner but he was very rude. He didn't offer any excuses or apologies, he just told us that if we didn't like his pizza, we were free to go somewhere else (and that's exactly what we did). And I suspect customers aren't the only ones writing these reviews based on the writing style. Real customers, that should tell you something. Cons: bad food, bad service more

Great Pizza - Delivered - which beats the chains any day!! 3/31/2007

I use Mammoth for pizza delivery and love it! It is tons better than the chain delivery options and we are fortunate enough to live in their zone. I love that they have some of the more gourmet toppings like Capital Creations which we had to leave behind when we moved further outside the city limits. Pros: Delivery - Great Crust Cons: No more wheat crust do to lack of customer interest. :( more

not good & creepy owner 2/21/2007

I've seen better pizza & very uneasy being in this place. The dude behind the bar who i think was the manager gave us looks which made us feel weird. Pros: nothing Cons: food and manager more

Complete waste of time 2/17/2007

A complete waste of our time. We walked in recently to poor service and bad food. Never again. Save yourself the money and go any place but this one. If you want pizza in Briar Creek, there are other options to go to. Don't bother with this one. Pros: Leaving. Cons: Everything about it. more

Good breadsticks 1/29/2007

Went in. Ate the breadsticks. Good bread. Good sauce. Haven't had the pizza, but saw the mammoth sized box. more

WOW! I joined Citysearch just so I could write about this place! 1/15/2007

I am so impressed with Mammoth! We decided to give it a try after all of the great reviews. Leon, the owner, was at the counter when we arrived to pick our order up. You couldn't ask for friendlier service. Our food was ready when we got there, 10 minutes after ordering. This pizza is totally unique and wonderful. The sauce is so flavorful and fresh, and the crust is just chewy but just crunchy enough. I usually have to add garlic and herbs to my pizza, but this was perfect. My fiancee is from NYC, and we just moved down to Raleigh from Manhattan. As said in a few reviews, it's not New York pizza, but it's right up there with it! No doubt, we're definitely heading back. I really think the negative reviews were from competition, I noticed a plug for another local pizzeria toward the end. Don't cut yourself short, try both and see what does it for you. I think Mammoth will win hands down. Pros: Unique flavor, service, great price for attention to detail. Cons: None. more

ALL AROUND PERFECT EXPERIENCE!! 1/4/2007

I have tried the calzones, pizza, and wings - all three were full of flavor and some of the best tasting ever! Everything was made fresh to order - and took less than 10 minutes to get these delights. The pizza slice was HUGE and needed to be folded in half - the calzone was super huge and stuffed to the gills with fresh, organic ingredients. I highly recommend this resteraunt above all of the other pizza joints. For others who have reviewed this resteraunt and said the slices were small.... you have got to be kidding me - unless you are 500lbs, this slice is NOT small! If you got a small slice (which is nearly impossible since 2 slices are half of a 16"" pizza) then a simple comment to the owner would have remedied that. The owner is super friendly, and knows his stuff! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Fabulous Pie Crust 1/4/2007

I love pizza. And there was a lot to love. The crust was some of the best I've had. Great sauce. Fun employees. They've really got a neat product for kids parties.. The ""Mammoth"" pizza is HUMONGOUS. I'll be back often. Pros: Size of Pizza Cons: Hard to find more

Regarding the 6/8 review.... 1/4/2007

I would just like to state that when writing a review...you should at least have been a patron within say 10 days of the write up. How can one, in good form, write a bad review about a place they visited over a year ago?? It does not make sense nor is it fair to the establishment. I have eaten and had delivery from this place many times and I stand by my original review. Excellent pizza, different, and fairly priced. If you don't like new things then don't try them....stick to Papa Johns. If you want something different and delicious...and aside the norm, try Mammoth Pizza. Please disregard the idiotic 6/8 review. At least they stopped by a store to try and make you happy instead of showing up with no drink at all. more

Great Pizza, Great Folks and Fresh Pizza 1/4/2007

I have been reading the reviews of this place and like most places, there are great reviews and not so great. I have heard so many people in the real world and not city search that hey I got to try and get my own thoughts on the place. I went in at lunch time since the last review was so very picky on every last detail like he was looking for a 5 star place for nothing. I came in and met the owner, Leon. He is very nice, upbeat and very confident about his product. A couple of things that caught my eye was the fact that they didn't have pizza sitting up under heat lamps drying out along with the topping sitting on top of them. They make their pizza fresh, right on the spot and the taste is so much better than the other places that servers pizza by the slice that I can understand how they can be cheaper cause they never have to make another pizza the rest of lunch.\r \r Leon takes time to explain to me why his pizza is so much better. He makes is own pizza sauce, not a premade sauce that they just spice up and call it their. They add flavor to the crust with extra virgin olive oil and herbs. The veggies and salads are organic and very fresh. I got excited about having slices of such a well thought out pizza. Let me tell you could I say OMG what a pizza. such flavor, freshness. U do not get that a the A slice of card board.\r \r Now if another employee is here, then personally I would go back to Leon everytime, because employees just don't have the heart and caring than the owner.\r \r A+++++++++ Pros: Freshness, Biggest Pizza, Organic Veggies, Salad, Great Owner Cons: Pictures on the wall more

Mammoth ex- 12/28/2006

Terrible. Went at lunchtime and ordered the lunch special of 2 ""Mammoth"" slices and a drink. Only one person was working and trying to take orders and prepare pizzas. All but two of the fountain drinks were kicked. The kid had to give us bottles of diet Pepsi.\r \r Waited 25-30 minutes for our pizza to be prepared and cooked. The slices he brought out were about the same size as the slices you would get from a large Dominos pizza. Nothing Mammoth about them and nothing really remarkable about the taste of the pizza.\r \r Interior of the restaurant has no ambiance whatsoever. Looks like they bought all their furniture from various restaurant auctions. The ""booths"" if you can call them that can sit two people on a side, assuming you and your date don't have any arms. And what's with the bright purple walls . . . I especially like the 13"" TV with Rabbit ears fully extended sitting on a table against the wall.\r \r It was a waste of $7.32. Much better pizza just up the road in Briar Creek at ""A Slice of New York"" for less money, larger slices, and a very short lunchtime wait. Skip this place. Cons: Everything more

Utterly Disgusted 10/25/2006

I love a good pie or calzone and reading all the reviews, was really excited to try this place.. Talk about a disappointment.. I went around noon and the only thing to show that it was open was a neon ""open"" sign.. I entered and the lights were still off and a lone worker sat at the end of a counter. After I picked up a menu, it occured to him to fire up the oven and turn on the lights.. I ordered a calzone.. When I stated (after my order had been written down) that I wanted mushrooms as my topping.. He had to re-read the calzone description twice until he realized that it was part of the ingredients.. I should have gone with my gut and asked for my money back at that point.. I took my order home and to my dismay (but not shock) found that the calzone had not been fully cooked.. Big lumps of what I thought was cheese turned out to be gooey dough.. Next time, I'm going with my instinct and sticking with the other area pizzerias.. You know, the ones that have the lights on and employees who know how to prepare a good slice and know what a calzone is. Pros: Absolutely Nothing Cons: The entire eatery more

Biggest Pizza in the Triangle 8/17/2006

I have been reading a lot of the positive response that this place has been getting and out of the 6 or 7 I have read of them all of these people couldn't be wrong. I ordered a Dealth by Meat. I was suprised of the freshness of the pizza. The crust, the sause, the toppings. I knew why so many people were excited about this place. I tried the wheat crust with alfredo sause and wow that was good. They were rocking, but they still manage to to keep a smile and say hi to you at the door. This is a great little spot, not the commerical fill, you just feel like family. Leon the owner is always asking for feedback, making sure his pizza meets everyone standards. He is well deciated for us to have a great time and enjoy his product. Pros: Great homemade sauce, high quality toppings, fantastic people Cons: more seeting is needed but I know they will get there more

Great Pizza, but not NY style 8/13/2006

We ordered 2 individual pizzas, wings and 2 drinks. The toppings on the pizzas are very fresh and identifiable. I had tomatoes and green peppers on mine and my husband had the equivalent of a supreme pizza. Toppings were well placed and ample, but didn't overburden the pies. The crust was soft and tasted great, cooked perfectly. The crust is kind of a thick crust but not sicilian, I guess I would equate it to a Papa Johns style of crust but with way more flavor and better texture. The sauce has a nice zip to it. I really enjoyed the sauce the most, it had vibrate flavors, a great consistency and there was just enough of it on the pizza. The whole pizza just tasted very fresh. We also ordered the medium wings. They came in a tangy mustard sauce and were ok. No celery or dipping sauces and the outside of the wings were really hot but the insides were barely warm, however I did not see any pink. The texture was nice and they were good quality wings, not an overly thick skin and the meat was tender. The sauce wasn;t bad either. Next time we will try the hot wings. \r \r The owner Leon, came out to greet us and tell us all about the place, he was very friendly and i think is promoting the business well. \r \r We were impressed with the service, price and quality of the pizza. I want to mention that the pizza is great, but that if you are from NY or want NY pizza, this isn't it. This is the best non-NY style pizza we have had in the area and my husband absolutly loved it (he is not from NY). Pros: Good pizza, good price, very fresh Cons: not much seating inside, yet. Some of the younger employees need to improve professionalism more
