What's the fuss about? 1/12/2006

I had breakfast there and, while the food I had was OK, it certainly not what the reviews would lead you to believe. I am willing to wait for a good meal, but the worst part of the wait is that the waiting area, such as it is, is one of the most cramped, claustrophobic spaces imaginable. The worst... If I remember correctly, they don't even offer omelets; they have scrambles. Is it too hard to make an omelet? Too many people confuse a lot of food with good food. There is a difference. There are plenty of other places that serve much better food and it doesn't take much to beat the surroundings. For the folks who say this is the best in Seattle: Get over it. Maltby is nowhere near Seattle and this doesn't rank with Seattle's better diners. Cons: average food, cramped more

9.7? 10/8/2004

9.7 was the Maltby Cafe's rating when I first looked. I can't even begin to imagine how they came in at less than 10! This cafe has to be one of the best kept secrets in the Pacific Northwest. Have to leave now...I'm meeting friends there this morning :) Pros: Outstanding food, Impeccable service, Excellent coffee more

Yum yum!! 9/18/2004

Delicious breakfasts! The eggs are perfectly prepared, fluffy and moist (even on over-hard eggs!) and the scrambles are chock full of tasty ingredients. The potatoes are tender, brown & crispy on the bottom, the toast it thick and homemade, and the coffee is good (Starbuck's). I did not care for the cinnamon roll - the roll itself was good, but the almond-flavored icing was too sweet and there was too much of it for my taste. Service was prompt and very friendly, and our order only took about 10 minutes! There portions are large, but the prices are reasonable considering the quality of ingredients and the amount of food you get. You can kill time waiting at the mini-mall across the parking lot, but guys be warned - it's girly shops, full of bath products, purses and beaded sweaters, so bring a book or newspaper. Pros: Great food, Friendly service, Good coffee more

Go early or wait 6/5/2004

This is a great spot for breakfast especially during the week. If you plan to go on the weekend, go early or plan for a long wait. Similar to Brown Bag Cafe in Redmond and Alexa's in Bothell. more

Good Food - Long Wait but worth it!!! 4/25/2004

I enjoy good food, and always a treat to visit the Maltby Cafe. Large portions, good service with a smile and friendly people. Always a wait but always with the wait. Wish breakgfast was served all day during the week but it isn't. Will waiting check out the shops across the street , it kills the time. I take all of my out of towners here and they always ask if we have been back. A must do and must come really hungry and expect a doggy bag to take with you!!! It makes a great treat later on!!! Pros: Good food, Large portions, Friendly service more

Good stuff in the sticks 2/11/2003

These guys serve up fine breakfasts, and lots of it. The portions are nice and hefty. Give their 3 cheese omlette a try, or their famous scale-tipping cinnamon rolls, drowning in an amaretto-tinged icing. You'll need a box to take at least half of it home. Take it from me, I'm a whale and I couldn't fit it all in. Nice, homey atmosphere in a quiet rural spot. Oh, but the parking bites. Put a girdle on your SUV to squeeze around this lot. If you can help it, don't park in the aisles - it gets so cramped that you may not have room to back out after. Go around back where there's no angle parking. Hopefully, you'll find a spot. Pros: cinnamon rolls, starbucks coffee, big portions Cons: parking, very busy more

Always our first choice 2/5/2003

This has always been and continues to be, a very popular eating establishment. Unfortunately it is sometimes too popular and due to the ""no reservation"" policy unless you have a partyof 8 or more, it is hard to take older guests or young children along if the wait will be an hour. Best to call and check on the waiting time and then send someone with patience and a good book ahead of the group. The food is always fresh, homemade and extremely appealing. We have never taken a guest and had them be unhappy. Maltby Cafe is well known for their cinnnamon rolls that are the size of a small dinner plate and the superb oatmeal topped with pecans and fresh strawberries. Yummms all around! Pros: fun atmosphere, great for guests, always like food Cons: no reservations, can be too busy, weekend menu more

Yum! 2/1/2003

Best Seattle breakfast, hands-down! The portions are huge, so come with an appetitie. If you like pancakes and a variety of egg dishes with potatoes, this is the place for you! more

best breakfast ever 1/26/2003

the biscuts are fluffy, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly...what more could you want? everything is obviously made from scratch and they don't skimp on expensive ingredients (like avocadoes) as so many places do. there is always a wait and it can be a bit loud because it is so crowded, but once you start eating you forget about that stuff. more

A Country Classic 1/6/2003

Maltby Cafe is a true find. Delicious, unique breakfasts at a reasonable price. Be prepared to wait up to an hour on Sundays. This place is well known the region over for its wonderful breakfasts. Luckily, there are cute shops nearby to while away the time. And the PA system at the shops will let you know when your table is ready. Pros: Inexpensive, Huge quantities, Delicious food Cons: Long waits, Loud more

Average place 12/15/2002

Always a long wait. Food is a fair price but nothing to write home about. Cannot figure out why the high rating of the place, Besides it's out of the way and very hard for an out of towner to fine. Pros: good parking, service always good, plenty of food Cons: loong waits, average food. more

Best Breakfast in WA 12/13/2002

There is almost always a wait...& its well worth it! The staff is friendly & efficient...the food is simply wonderful, very well priced & nicely served. Pros: Good Service, Friendly Staff, Excellent Menu Cons: N/A, N/A, N/A more

Not much in the middle of nowhere 11/27/2002

I had the WORST experience there! I nearly had to tackle the waitress to get a refill on coffee and water, they screwed up our bill, and the food was cold. Besides having to deal with the rotten attitude of the wait staff, the place was over-crowded and over priced. I will never return. more

Get The Cinnamon Roll. 11/25/2002

I enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Maltby Cafe. In fact, I have had several breakfasts there over the past few years and not once has the Maltby Cafe failed to produce a scrumptious meal!! Everything on their menu is cooked and presented well. Ideal for a couple or a small family. If you go, you must try their seasoned potatos (comes with most breakfasts). Make sure to also get a cinnamon roll... I will let its increadible flavor and size speak for itself, just order it! A little on the expensive side, but well worth it. Also, don't plan on coming in and sitting right down. Saturday's and Sunday's are insane; however, if you time it right (and keep your party small) the wait is not unbearable, 10-30 minutes is typical. Pros: Cinnamon Roll/Food, Atmosphere, Service/Staff Cons: Crowded, Long Wait (sometimes) more

best breakfast by far! 11/12/2002

The food and atmosphere were excellent, best breakfast in seattle by leaps and bounds. With out a doubt worth the drive. Pros: good prices, generous portions, excellent food more

Marvelous Maltby 11/11/2002

Cute little restaurant, huge servings, friendly staff, a little out there but worth the drive and wait more

I knew Maltby when... 11/5/2002

Great place that goes with the Maltby attitude - good people, good times and great food! more

Woth the Wait 11/2/2002

Great value for the money. The wait time can be lengthy, but the service is good, the food arrives quickly and the meals are enourmous. Pros: Food, Service, Good Value Cons: Parking, Wait, Not healthy food more

Worthy of Waiting 11/1/2002

If you get there past 8 am, be prepared to wait for at least :45 minutes. This nice little cafe may be inconveniently located but I would place this food worthy for a Diplomatic Summit (I would know I've been to a few). The eggs are made to your exact specifications, there is ample reading material while you wait, water tastes good, Orange Juice is freshly squeezed, The biscuits and gravey tastes like they came from a rural town in West Virginia (yes thats a good thing) HAM was real, not fake canned ham, sausages were plump, and the service was superbe. If I would have to invite a diplomat over for breakfast, this is where I would take them. Pros: Service, Quality of Food, Restroom Cons: Gravel Parking lot, Distance more

Yum 10/27/2002

Maltby cafe is the best with great food and awesome service more
