This was the first salon I tried 4 years ago when I moved to Salt Lake and it was better than I ever expected.After being greeted by many warm welcomes as you enter, all your salon needs are met. Never have I left with a bad hair cut or brow wax. The location is perfect, easy to access by car with two hour free parking right out front. Or you can take trax and walk just one block South. more

All the people at Malstrom are so nice and help full.. I love how they wash my hair with a full on massage.. ( feels so good ) I always feel like a million bucks when I walk out of the salon.. Always satisfied.. more

I have been going to Malstrom Salon since it first opened and have had Chris as my hair stylist well prior to that. The owners Trish and Chris are absolutely wonderful and take great care of their customers. In fact every one who works their is very friendly and does a great job. Keep up the great work! more

I went to Amber for highlights awhile back. She was nice, but did not listen well and interrupted a lot. I was very careful to explain that my hair was already damaged from highlights put in my hair by an inexperienced Aveda stylist, and that I wanted lots of base color showing with definite streaks of highlights. I showed photographs and a sketch of what I wanted, plus a bulleted list of what I did and didn't want so that I would get the highlights I wanted and not have damage on top of damage. Despite the careful attempts to describe my needs, Amber put the highlights so close together that my hair ended up with a weird overall tint instead of streaks. It was heavily damaged a second time, and people asked me what had happened to it. I have been getting highlights in other states for many years, but only in Utah have stylists put the highlights so close together that they damage the hair and don't look like highlights. Amber had many years of experience, so I was surprised and disappointed at these results. She would greatly benefit from listening, not interrupting or resisting what the client is saying. I have since had much better luck with highlights and cuts by Cassie Dean at Zazou Salon, who was able to highlight my hair the way I wanted it done and without causing more damage. more

I think many would agree that David is one of the best hairstylists around, the absolute best with blondes and highlights. I have been going to David for years and of course, like everyone else, have strayed a time or two and come back to him with my tail between my legs. What I have finally come to realize is, when I need a change, he can do it for me, I don't have to change salons or stylists to get the change I am looking for. He also makes everyone feel very comfortable and conversation is easy with him- you know that's important with a stylist! The salon could be updated, there is some clutter like topiaries etc but I well worth overlooking for a talent like David. more

I've been looking for a long time for someone who can deal with curly / wavy hair like mine and David knows exactly what to do with it. David is also very nice and fun to chat with, which makes for an overall great experience! more

AMBER has been taking care of my hair and waxing services for years and she's great!!! It's so nice to make one appointment to take care of all my beauty needs, also the salon is a very nice relaxing place with the aroma of AVEDA products floating throughout. Highly recommend it! I have had a total of three haircuts so far at Malstrom, and I will never go anywhere else! Courtney has completely transformed my obnoxious, unruly hair into a style that I can wash & wear (or style a bit for fun). I have never found a stylist so willing to listen to what the client wants and needs. I always leave the salon feeling great. The other stylists all seem so friendly, too. It is a great place. The only hairdresser for me is Jessica at Malstrom's Salon on 7th East in SLC. (Park behind the the salon.) Jessica has taken care of me every since she began her career at the same time I moved to Salt Lake. She's open to new ideas and willing to make suggestions when it's time for a change, but she's also willing to maintain a hairstyle that's working. She pampers me every time I come to the salon with a hand massage, a thorough hair washing, and a great cut and color. ||[]||[]The salon itself is welcoming. The minute I walk in the door there is always someone offering me something to drink (the tea is amazing!) and letting me know if I'll have to wait, which I almost never do. The quarters are small, making for a homey, cozy feeling. ||[]||[]Prices are what you would expect in an Aveda salon and wll worth every penny. The downtown location makes this a great place to stop in after work, or even to squeeze in during an extra long lunch. more

I travel over 3 hours to have the accomadting owner/staff at Malstrom Salon take exceptional care of my hair and skin needs. Chris Malstrom and his staff have created a attractive, peaceful and professional atmosphere. I love the attention to details from the time I make my appointment until the time I pay for the services/products I have received. I have been going to Malstrom for nearly two years now, everytime, I retrun from the Salon I receive oohs and ahhs from co workers and family members for the "new look" I come back with. Malstrom, located just across the street from Trolley Square has a nice warm and airy feeling about it. Plenty of natural light and a sort of natural element to the decor makes it feel like such a nice retreat. First of all before going to this salon I didn't even know what Aveda was. But now after going here for about 3.5 years I wouldn't reccomend anything else. Their colors and products are amazing! I have naturally thick curly brown hair but have had it platnium short and piecy. My hair stylist is Keisha and I reccomend her to all of my friends! She is absolutely amazing and I would trust NO ONE else! I can take in a picture of any haircut or style or color and she will always duplicate it PERFECTLY. The entire staff though is so friendly even the girls at the receptionist desk are great! I love the salon because no matter which way I go, light or dark, trendy or natural I can always get what I am looking for! I just moved to Salt Lake City this past summer and one of my major dilemmas was to find an excellent salon. I admit that I am extremely picky about my color and only expect the best. Alisa Barton at Malstrom is wonderful and does great color! Everyone there is very friendly and who doesn't love the smell of Aveda products? Love the salon and am very happy with the results.
