We stayed in Malibu due to a business obligation, and we had no expectations about our lodgings beyond our standard of regular luxury hotels. I live in LA and I've always subscribed to the maxim about no good hotels west of Bundy. Well I have changed my mind indeed! Malibu Beach Inn is classy without being too formal. There is a harmonic beauty with the ocean that Frank Lloyd Wright could be newly inspired by.
It's modest to be sure, but it fits the vibe of a surf town's hospitality. The rooms are small, yet well appointed. The fireplace is a nice touch to walk into. The deck is a one of a kind amenity that isn't repeatable throughout the whole west coast of America. We both felt seasick... on land!... in a good way!
From the moment we checked in, Avi, at the front desk made sure we felt at home, escorting us to our room and suggesting a great!! restaurant (Bui Sushi) to printing our boarding passes on the way out, and Loren who knowledgeably helped us figure out the internet, we felt like it was a neighborly experience unlike the rest of regularly snootibly LA. On the way to dinner we stopped in the lobby restaurant for a drink. JD the bartender, while mixing a slightly bitter margarita, made up for it in sincere conversation. Also, we learned a lot about overpriced tequila. Good to know. Thanks JD! Over all, the Malibu Inn is trying hard to be the best spot in LA and I say thanks for the effort, lovey!
Malibu Beach Inn is the kind of place I want to go to in order to really feel like I'm chillin' at the beach.
