Dinner with friends tonight. Music volume was so loud, we had to nearly scream to hear each other. Perfect place to take someone you're planning to divorce. Mediocre food, over-priced, plenty of drunks to keep you company. This is a bar with a piano, and that's about all... more

A Correction, Then A Review 3/11/2011

Dear dude below me... You said you read the reviews on here before you chose to eat at Magnum Lounge. There were only 3 reviews by the time you posted and the first one was - ""Red / black paint. Red leather booths. Large mirrors. Piano bar where singers belt out show tunes while the nip / tuck crowd rubs elbows with the upwardly mobile gay set over American cuisine and chrome desert carts"". What about that didn't you understand? MIXED CROWD.. like in a city, Son, like in Miami,.. like in the world. You need to get out more. Oh the myopia of youth! Sometimes they're so self-important aren't they? And thank you, CSMobileUser, for talking the time to explain you easily look younger than you are. That must be important to you; tiresome as it is to the rest of us And yeah, the door is adjacent the car park in the back just like the sign says. Red flag? There's nothing foreboding about that. It's just good business to hang a sign saying so. It's courteous. Anyway - I've only ever been to Magnum Lounge with straight people but that's inconsequential isn't it? Who they slept with after they left had no bearing on the unforgettable meal I had with them; in a welcoming comfortable setting, with professional servers (I'm from L.A., - I'd forgotten what it was like when a server isn't an actor and actually looks at me, not past me at the producer at the next table) while listening to sometimes good music (hey.. they were mostly good but this one lady... man alive she was a cat in heat)! I booked my flight this evening for the end of May, then I booked the car and hotel, but I didn't leave it until tomorrow to call Magnum Lounge to inquire if they'd be open when I'm there (I heard a nasty rumor that turned out to be untrue - that Magnum was closed every summer. Thank goodness that they're only closed for the month of October, and on Sundays and Mondays!). See ya at the end of May, folks! Can't wait !!! Sincerely, Mick more

Always a favorite ! 3/11/2011

We live in Los Angeles but every time we go to Miami, which is frequently, we enjoy ourselves at Magnum. My partner and I truly enjoy the food, the atmosphere, the professional servers (what? this is your real job? you're not an actor looking over my shoulder for who might be more important? what?) and the warm welcome the owner always extends. We generally go in with a mixed group (gay, straight, Caucasian and non-Caucasian) and never has any one of us felt uncomfortable. * as a side note - I question the gentleman who gave a one star rating after saying he'd been going there for years. Gosh.. it was great for years and years then one night it all of a sudden went racist and homophobic? It's easy to see that the party that arrived at the restaurant was smaller than what quoted to the reservationist (4, not 6) and smaller than the second party of 5 that was seated at the large round table. I know that the round table is the ONLY table that can comfortably accommodate a party of 5 but there are several tables that can accommodate a party of 4. And frankly, the racism comment was completely arbitrary. Nothing in your review, sir, hinted at racism or homophobia. * Anyway.... We'll be coming again in late May and so hope Magnum will be open the nights we're in Miami. I vaguely recall someone saying they were seasonal but don't take my word for it - call! I'll call tomorrow but I'll keep my fingers crossed until then. more

nice setting butâ?¦ 4/20/2009

I asked a local from my hotel where he suggested I go on a saturday night to get something to eat and a few drinks. he said this place and after reading the reviews on here about it, took a cab for a fun night out. first thing i noticed was that there was a sign on the front door saying For Enterance and Parking Use the Back Door. that should have been a red flag. i go in and sit down. nice looking place, dim-red lit and okay music. while waiting to get carded (cause i always doâ?¦ i just turned 24 yesterday but easily look 18) I started noticing that the place was a sausagefest and within seconds of hearing a group of guys start doing karaoke, I realized I was sent to a gay bar. I wasted $40 on a taxi ride to find out what no one else would post about the place. Nothing else I could go to was remotely close and it's not one of those places that you want to walk around in. more

Fantastic. Great food in a fun, unique atmosphere. Piano player and singer, gracious host, amazing waitstaff and a classic menu make this a great dining experience. Cobb salad, fried chicken, salmon and pasta are some of the highlights. Save room for desert, you will want to try everything on the cart. AAA+++ more

Great place to hang out or dine 12/30/2008

Magnum is a wonderful place to dine or just have drinks. People are friendly and the owner is an excellent host. As a blackman who goes there constantly I have never had any problems. People engage you in conversation even if they dont know you. The waiters are fun and efficient, the bartenders are also friendly and my favorite bartender Ray is a good singer. The piano music and singalong is infectious and keeps you coming back. The owner comes around with Port after your meal and he is a delight. Pros: service, singing, food Cons: parking on Friday or Saturday nights can be tricky but that goes to show its popularity more

feel of the good old days 12/7/2008

to the person feeling scorned by not being seated and thinking it's a racial issue. First of all to pull the race card you should have a damn good reason in this day and age. As a person in the business, the owner did absoulely right by giving away your table to a party that was complete. Unfortunately for you, you were on time. the rest of your party wasn't. Every seat filled in a restaurant generates revenue, had your party been available for the table they probably would have been sat. You need to blame your guests, not the owner. My suggestion is if you know you have irresponsible guest, tell them the reservation is a half hour earlier. As for you being a loyal customer, sorry, you would have told the owner you were sorry for your guests being late and understand him having to accomodate paying customers. Shame on you for pulling the race card on this issue. It's just a matter of a man running a business correctly and you not having any respect for someones welfare, even so much that you would try to damage his business by this ridiculous insult. Buy your own restaurant and hold tables for your friends, hopefully people will want to fill them, then realize your bills and see if you still have the same feelings. Pros: fun more

The Shack @ Magnum lounge is a great place to hangout and meet some interesting characters. 10/9/2008

It's a place of your own. Everyone makes you feel welcomed from the bartenders to all the locals. I happened upon this place with some friends on a Sunday night after the beach. There was a great crowd there for Karaoke that night. We had a blast just listening to everyone sing. Outside the shack there is a little area that is lounge like with sofas, chairs and big screen TVs. The vibe is one that allows you to come over alone (if you wish) without hesitation...no doubt you will meet your new friends within no time. Not open every night for six weeks in the fall. :-(( So call Magnum for the hours. Pros: homey Cons: hot in the summers more

Avoid if you are GAY or AFRICAN AMERICAN 8/31/2008

I have been a frequent diner at this restaurant for several years, but tonight I experienced demeaning racial discrimination at this restaurant. Phoned in advance for a reservation which was confirmed more than 1 hour in advance. Upon arrival was offerred a round table I prefer, the only one which can accomodate a group of this size, then sat at bar to await rest of my party (3 of 5 still to come), all gay African-American men. Another group of 5 non-gay white middle aged customers then arrived and was seated at our table - the one we were offered. We were then offered inferior seating at a table suitable for only 4 - and ""an explanation"" by the owner. Which I of course refused. I am a man of PRINCIPLE thank you. As were the rest of my party.\r \r Figure this out for yourselves. Restaurant clearly gives preference to the owner's prefered friends and family....casthing others aside. Highly embarassing event having been a frequent customer of this one gay-friendly and open-minded restaurant...or so I thought. Will never see me again.\r \r I do not tolerate blatant discrimination such as this, and neither should anyone else from our community.\r \r Arturo Sunday Diner\r more

Magnum restaurant may seem like a total dive from the outside but step in and you have found yourself in a dimly lit cabaret style restaurant that could have come straight from New York. The staff is extremely friendly and the man playing the piano does take request(for a tip of course). The food is all between 15-25 dollars and is made pretty well. It is a fun place to bring a date or a couple of friends. If you decided to dine before 8:30 be prepared because you will run into an older crowd. Overall the place is great, and you wont regret your visit. more

great for dinner and drinks 2/18/2008

Fantastic food, nice decorated a bit loud inside , I was there with a group of friends that had never been to Magnum before we all had dinner and went out to the outside bar, Victor was the bartender super cute and very nice and professional. would recommed the restaurant and the outside bar. Pros: Nice food and romantic Cons: A bit loud because of the Piano Bar more

The best night out in Miami 10/14/2007

This place is a perfect example of what most other restaurants would like to be. Our evening started with the best apple martini I have ever had served by a very attentive barman (easy on the eyes too). The food is absolutley superb and the service great. The owner Geoffrey is a true gent, visiting each table offering complimentry port for each guest after thier meal. \r \r It seemed that most of the patrons were so devoted to the place that they were all on first name terms with each other. No need to worry though as we were made to feel totaly a part of this wonderful experience.\r \r It is a bit of a taxi ride from the teen ridden South Beach but well worth ,it as it is the complete evening with no need to visit anywhere else. I wish I lived in Miami now instead of London.\r \r Pros: Too many to mention Cons: If i had to list one it would be that there could be more Bathroom facilities.(although I am really grasping at straws to say that) more

My farvorite place 9/7/2005

With more class and charm than the rest of miami combined - Magnum is always a fabulous choice. The complementary powdered fried bread is as decadent as it gets. Jeffery the owner comes around with sandman brandy as you finish your meal. It's lovely!!! more

First rate 2/6/2003

January '03-We stumbled upon Magnum and were blown away by the attentive service, the relaxed atmosphere, the variety of the menu, the piano player with his bluesy singer, but mostly by the wonderful cuisine. Everything, from the small but flavorfull crab cakes to the salmon with balsamic reduction was first rate more
