Gorgeous place, a must see when visiting Charleston. Pricey, but worth it. Springtime visit is the best.

Our Favorite Plantation 4/14/2006

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is our favorite plantation in the Hwy 61 area. They have the house, gardens, swamp, a petting zoo, playground and amazing gardens. You can rent bikes and canoes and spend the entire day having fun here with your family. The gardens are great and you can walk forever in them without feeling like you are looking at the same old same old. The petting zoo is our favorite as many of the animals walk around and you can pet them. Our favorites are the deer and all the bird type animals. The playground is an older one, but still is safe and functional and the kids definately need a break from viewing the gardens (at least mine do). The staff is friendly and the plantation is very child friendly compared to most plantations. You can also get a family membership for very cheap! more

Beautiful sightseeing nature area 9/11/2005

The Audubon Swamps at Magnolia Plantation are a beautiful step back into time. This is separate to tour from Magnolia Plantation and has separate fees. It is located on the same property, but a totally different admission price and things to see. Basically, they have the same owners. You will see all kinds of nature so take your binoculars. There are many alligators so be careful! You walk in the swamp on a trail. My husband and son loved it but it made me kind of nervous. If you are an all-out -adventure-some person this is for you. If a spider scares you, you might skip this one. You are VERY close to the alligators. However, it is a beautiful sight and is named after the famous painter. He painted many of his paintings on this property when he visited. You can see some of his work (a few pieces at the plantation) more

Beautiful gardens, nice day trip 8/19/2005

On historic Ashley River Road there are several plantations that have not changed along with the rest of the world. Magnolia Plantations is a beautiful place to tour and the grounds are amazing. It is known for it's beautiful gardens. You can come spend an entire day and walk the gardens. They have a Biblical garden and all kinds of unusual and exotic plants. This is great for fun or a field trip for the kids. Admission is a little expensive, but it is a tourist attraction and in my opinion worth the admission. You step back in time when you come to Magnolia. more
