The following is copy of letter I sent to Micheal Head vet at Madison Vet. clinic: Cons: your pet suffers

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/3/2014

My husband and I have appreciated Dr. Head and Madison Vet Clinic for years. I interviewed three vets when I moved to middle TN in 1994 and it was an easy choice to select Dr. Head. His staff is loyal and they are good at their jobs. The current two receptionists have been there for years. That is true of two of the vet techs as well. Over the years he has cared for all of our dogs and cats. We currently have two dogs, a 9 yr old Beagle and a 14 yr old Lab mix that are under his care. The Lab mix has had two significant surgeries on her back 'knees' - both rebuilt. The surgeries were necessary and the work Dr. Head performed was excellent. She enjoys a very active life because of his surgical skill. We rescued a kitten that was hit by a car and left in the street to die. The poor kitten suffered extreme head trauma in addition to its other injuries. Dr. Head cared for the kitten for over a week, bringing it back from critical to being able to life a long life. That kitten is now our full grown cat, Miracle. In addition to her, we have two other cats, one 18 yrs old that Dr. Head had cared for six she was six months old. We'd had some tough decisions to make over the years regarding animal care and Dr. Head always made time to discuss things with us and offer his recommendations after explaining options to us. His tremendous heart for animals and their owners is 2nd only to his tremendous heart for his family. \r Over the years we have been present in the office when people have come in with seriously ailing animals. The staff, at Dr. Head's direction, has always treated those animals and their owners with high priority and concern. Just like an emergency room or a human doctor's office, sometimes an emergency has to be dealt with pushing the regular schedule behind some. I never begrudge those who need the special treatment, goodness knows that might be my need someday. As I write this it is March 2014 and we still regularly see Dr. Head and his staff. We refer our friends to him and many of our friends use him as their regular vet. I've read the negative comments and found myself surprised. For 20 years we have been regulars at Madison Vet Clinic and have never witnessed anything but quality care. That includes the times when people came in and were rude or uncivil. And it includes dealing with those, including ourselves at times, dealing with the heartbreak of a sick animal or death of a beloved pet. If you have furry children you will be putting them in great hands with Dr. Head. more

I have taken all my fur babies to this clinic for over 23 years Dr.Head has provided routine care, sick care, and emergency care for me. He has always been professional, friendly, and kind to my animals. He has been fair in his pricing and has made arrangements with me when I've needed help. Appointments are made quickly and I've enjoyed seeing many of the same staff members year after year. My kitten was attacked by a dog 17 years ago.I brought her to him nearly dead. She is alive and well all these years later would not go anywhere else. more

I've lived in the Nashville area for almost 4 years now and have found this vet office to be the best. I'm moving out of the Madison area but will continue to take my pets to Madison Veterinary Clinic because of the great experience I've had . I remain respectful of their time and they've been flexible to accomodate my schedule as well. The vet has always given options in the treatment of my animals and I've never felt guilted or pressured into having treatments done like I have at other places. I have never left any of my animals for a surgery so I can't speak to that experience but I can say that if it were necessary, this is the place I would take them. more

My babies LOVE Madison Veterinary Clinic!! 3/29/2011

Madison Veterinary Clinic offers me extended pet care services close to home and with a degree of professionalism that is beyond my expectations!! Joyce and Mary at the front desk greet you into such a caring, personalized environment. They know your name, the names of ALL your pets, and the problems you are having. You feel like you belong here from the minute you step through the door. Dr. Head is a wealth of information! He is professional, yet kind and sincere. He explains everything that is wrong with your pet in great detail, giving you a chance to ask questions after each bit of information, as well as at the end of the visit, which enables you to ask questions you might otherwise forget by the end of the session. He has modules and posters, print-outs and hands-on visuals to accompany his explanations and makes sure that you are following the disease process or injury in-depth. The prices are explained to you BEFORE anything is done! I couldn't ask for a better veterinarian or staff. My animals are calm in his presence and he saved one of my babies from a death by parvo. I HIGHLY recommend this extraordinary vet and his wonderful staff!! more

never had a bad experience! 11/12/2009

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Head for probably upwards of 10 years. I have never once had a bad experience!! Sadly, Dr. Head was with us through the deaths of 2 very special and very old pets. Through the many visits, Dr. Head always gave us all of the options and supported us with whatever decisions we made. He was never short of compassionate and professional. Even now, I still bring my dog to him and have never once even considered taking my dog to a different veterinarian! When I read the bad reviews on here, I am shocked and, quite honestly, confused. I could never imagine Dr. Head being responsible for some of the stories on here... Pros: friendly staff, nearby more

Dr. Head is Great 8/25/2009

Our dog Maggie has been seeing Dr. Head for the last seven years. We first brought her to Dr. Head when she visited another clinic and developed a cyst after receiving shot. Dr. Head was able to do surgery on Maggie and would even call each day to check on her recovery. Just last year Maggie had to have another surgery when a infected mole formed on the inside of her eye. He paid close attention to the mole for a month or so and tried to put off surgery since it was in such a delicate place on her eye. But it just kept growing larger and surgery was the only option. He did a wonderful job moving the obstruction and restoring her eyelid back to normal. Again, he would call each day and check on her progress. I am so sorry others have had a bad experiences with Dr. Head, but ours has always been positive. His office is always very clean, cleaner than most people doctors' offices, and the staff is always kind and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Head. more

Void of emotion and truth 3/25/2009

I had faith at first but realized that my faith was misguided. I relied on the Doctor's forthright behavior and was sorely mistaken. My sweet little girl of twenty years was aging and not well. He assured me that there would be a time when he would be ""honest"" with me, it is his job. That time never came, I agonized for days and days as to what to do. I didn't want to let her go but somehow in my heart I knew I had too BUT with no help from the Doctor. I made my decision and it was not an easy one. In fact, I was crying uncontrollably as I arrived at the office on that dreaded day in 2008 and ""HE"" was right there in the parking lot and walked right by me with absolutely no consideration for our well being, and ""they"" all knew we were on our way. I truly thought this ""guy"" had the forththought of the greiving process, letting go, I couldn't have been more incorrect. It has been a year and half and I still mourn my little girl. I have personally visited a couple of shelters but somehow because of my baby's last moments of our life together I can't move on. What a bloodly nightmare, I have cried for months and months. I will get past this in spite of his treatment of us and I look to give other kitties a wonderful home at some point in time!? I certianly will locate another caretaker!? Pros: Close by! Cons: The emotion and connection that I thought was there WAS NOT! more

vet throws chart at me! 1/26/2009

I made appt. for 2pm. When I got there, there was a boxer waiting to go back, which they called back within 5 minutes. They started to bring my dogs back, but then told me to wait a little longer because they wanted to put me in a room with a big table. Well, first of all, my dogs weigh 100 pounds, and no vet has ever put them up on a table to examine, they are always examined on the floor due to their size. Anyway, it wasn't until the doc finished with the boxer at 2:30 that they finally called me back with my dogs. By that time I was very anxious and frustrated for having to wait 30 minutes. Why wasn't my appt. made for 2:30 if there was already a dog in the 2:00 spot? When I told the doc I couldn't stay because I had to wait too long, he got mad, and as I was walking out, he threw the chart down the hall at me. I told them I obviously made the right choice in leaving. Their price was very high too. Pros: close to home Cons: veterinarian, bad scheduling practices more

Great 8/27/2008

My dog was extremely ill and I initially took her to another animal hospital that I had been using. I explained to them that she was lethargic and had other problems. They made me wait for 1 hour with my dog in the car while they took in their morning appointments for shots, etc. Finally, I freaked out and called my boss who referred me to Madison Vet Clinic. I took her there immediately. I brought her in the office and relayed her symptoms to the tech. They IMMEDIATELY took her from me and started an IV and gave her the necessary meds. If I had stayed and waited at the other clinic, I feel sure that she would have died. I have the utmost regard for Dr. Head and his abilities as a vet. I thank him and owe him for saving my beloved dog. more

Go to Root Animal Clinic instead!!! 12/27/2007

I had bad experiences at Madison Veterinary Clinic on two occasions with two different dogs. Both dogs would have died if I hadn't taken them to another vet. The doctor diagnosed one of them with heart worms and sent her home without any treatment. So we took her to Dr. Root who treated her and saved her life. For my other dog, Dr. Head saw her four days in a row and couldn't diagnose the problem - although she had symptoms that Dr. Root recognized immediately. Dr. Root even brought his own dog in to give my dog a transfusion that saved her life. In addition to the inept service provided by Dr. Head at Madison Vet - his prices are extremely high. He also has very high staff turnover. I strongly recommend Root Animal Clinic for high quality care, reasonable prices and a friendly, qualified staff! Pros: location Cons: service and price more
