Best

one of my absolute favorite places of all time! order the rib sandwich! its a half rack of ribs between some bread ;o) only $5 !!!! I am VERY picky about my food. i have had it...

Worst

We have eaten at Maddy's many times & have always enjoyed it, but last night was a real disappointment. There were nearly 20 of us, so, as a courtesy, we had called the day befor...

Great food... 7/23/2007

My wife and I tried Maddy's for the first time on Saturday night. The food was excellent. The outside of the building doesn't look the best, but the food is great! I would recommend this to all!\r \r more

any nites good 8/13/2006

The music has been great, almost every time we've been there. I always have the chopped BBQ sandwich and the baked beans they're both really good,my wife has the ribs she loves them lucky me , she never can eat them all so I help her out they really are good. The employee are friendly and helpful the musics good, the beers cold, the foods good give them a shot you'll like it, and if you don't they wont make you come back. Pros: food, music, people, nice atmosphere 50ish blues joint, service is always great Cons: parking is terrible more

Awesome. 7/15/2006

Look, I don't know where the person below me was eating, but it was NOT Maddy's Rib and Blues Joint. The ribs are perfection of the highest ambrosial order, the pull pork and chop chicken sandwiches are, to be frank, the best. I have to eat at Maddy's at least once a week if not more(Most of the time its more). The draft beer selection is the envy of many full-service bars, including seasonal brews from Red Hook and Sweetwater. Oh, and did i mention FREE, LIVE, music every night of the week? Well its true, every night a different band covering a different perspective of southern blues. Get there early if you want a table on friday or saturday night!\r All in all, Maddy's rocks Pros: Everything. Cons: Nothing. more

It Depends on What You Eat.... 7/14/2006

Okay, the barbequed chicken and chopped pork sandwiches are pretty good. Nice, cold beer, great music if you go on the right night. BUT, I have to be honest and say those ribs were pretty nasty, YES, they were BAD! Fatty and tough! I have a good set of teeth, but even a Rottweiler would have a hard time getting those things down. I had heartburn for at least a day after I ate them and had to pop alot of Pepcid ACs! STAY away from those ribs! They're a heart attack on a plate just waiting to happen! Take your cell phone so you can call 911. Maddy, why don't you go for some baby back ribs? We'd be glad to pay for the difference, and they're so much more tender and leaner. As far as the sides, well Maddy, please come up with some new options. That slaw and potato salad are straight out of those big plastic bins you can buy at Sam's club. Stick to potato chips, you can't mess those up! Pros: Good BBQ chicken and chopped pork sandwiches Cons: NASTY, FATTY, TOUGH ribs more

great ribs and live blues 6/26/2006

This place has great ribs, the pulled pork left something to be desired, but the ribs and sauce are very good. I can't complain about any of the sides and the beer selection is good. ALways live blues music and the food is well priced. I highly recommend stopping in for a BBQ fix. Pros: ribs, blues Cons: loud there is no separating yourself from the loud music unless you can go outside more

Best BBQ Chicken in Atlanta 5/1/2006

Don't miss this stop in Atlanta. Quaint with the best BBQ chicken in Atlanta. The Ribs are exeptional as well. Generous portions, casual environment. Pros: Great Food, Quick Service, Good Prices more

Voted Best Ribs by AJC 5/1/2006

AJC voted Maddy's Best Ribs (in a tie) but their chopped chicken sandwhich is best in my book- and unique as far as local BBQ joints. Everybody is super friendly there, and they try to keep kids busy with instruments and noise makers, which makes parents very grateful. Laid-back, but energy really gets racing when bands start going! more

Love dem ribs! 4/30/2006

Finally the Emory/Decatur area has a good Bar-b-q place. I like the old blues music playing when I eat ""Q"" because you get that Memphis soul feeling that puts you in the mood for barbq. The menu here is easy to read and the service is good. As for the food, the chopped pork was average but the ribs was off the chain! Just as good as Fatt Matt's and tender falling off the bone with alot of meat.Next time just getting a full slab!! Also, the tangy barbeque sauce is good but wish they also had a vinegar based choice as well. The sides are also good especially the brunswick stew.A good beer selection but they need to add some good southern sweet tea. The only real complaint here is the parking lot which needs to be improved .I'm glad I can have good ribs on my way home. Pros: ribs, blues, stew Cons: parking, sweet tea more

ehhhhh 4/5/2006

I have been on the lookout for good barbecue in Atlanta, and this certainly was not it. I'd equate the food to the kind of ""barbecue"" that you might get at hospital or school cafeteria. Don't get me wrong, it was fine, though the potato salad had an odd taste to it- but it wasn't GOOD, and most certainly did not live up to what the other reviewers on this site have said. Listening to the music was the only thing that kept the evening from being a waste. Too bad they can't couple the fun local musicians with food that I would want to actually eat again. Pros: band Cons: food more

Great BBQ 7/13/2005

I had recently moved to the area and kept hearing about Maddy's. I finally stopped by one weekend and fell in love with the ribs, chicken and potato salad! The entire experience was great. Pros: Ribs, Atmosphere, Beer selection more

Nice guy but so so food 5/28/2005

I read several really good reviews and had a taste for barbeque so I stopped in on my way home from the grocery store. I thought I'd enjoy a chopped pork sandwich with nice chunks of crispy skin and that smokey flavor that's the hallmark of a really good sandwich. I was SO disappointed - the meat had the consistency of boiled, pulled pork that might have been sloshed around in an ordinary sauce. Pros: friendly more

Put some burn on the ribs 5/22/2005

To me the chicken is the best. The chicken is alway moist and delicious. The food is always consistent and great. I ask the cook to put some burn on my ribs. YUMMY! The blues atmosphere does not interfere if I choose to watch the television. You have to visit this place just for the food and the great wait staff alone. I had my baby shower here and I will never forget it. The owners are the best and its a great place to frequent. Pros: great food, great staff, casual atmosphere more

Restauraunt, not juke joint 10/14/2004

Maddy's aims for a kind of updated, mod, juke-joint atmospere, and it succeeds! I love it when the place is jumpin' and on Sunday mornings, when things are slower and quieter. But this isn't 1939 Mississippi or even 1975 Chicago, folks. What would it hurt to add some real down-home greens, blackeyed peas, snap beans, or sweet tater caserole? We asked a guy working the counter about it once. Nice guy, yet he still sneered and said ""EV'ry one asks that."" . . .Maybe 4 a reason??? Pros: chop pork, great location, parking more

Blues & BBQ done right 6/13/2004

Sometimes there's nothing more comforting than lounging back with a plate of barbecue and a pint of quality ale while lively blues music fills the air. That's what Maddy's has delivered every time I've gone there. It's an informal barbecue place with a small stage on which various blues-driven bands play nightly. The BBQ (we've had the ribs, chicken and a few sandwiches) is really tasty and the selection of beers, as well as price range, is pretty damn good. Very \r comfy joint with efficient, friendly service. Pros: Quality barbecue, Good variety of beer, Great music more

FUNKY DEVINE 2/5/2004

How could you not love this place? The people working there are eager, everybody is smiling, there's live blues bands every night and a great beer selection. Maddy's has brought life back to this section of Decatur and really brought a neighborhood back together. The place rocks and it's fun. Check out the painted kids chairs- one is in harley davidson flames! Pros: Friendly staff, good food value, great for kids/family more
