Horrible Service, Alright Food 6/4/2011

I went there with a group of family friends and it turned out to be the worst experience with a restaurant I have ever had. The waiter was horrible. He did not introduce himself, was not able to explain the dishes on the menu, and was not able to give me what I wanted for a meal but instead ""created"" something for me from the kitchen. It was frankly embarrassing for me because of the lack of service and the inefficiency of the meal. The steak was tough and cooked too long in the Steak and Biscuits and the alfredo sauce on the pasta was so heavy that I couldn't finish eating the dish. I realize that we could have had a fluke meal but considering the number of people in my party that had a horrible experience, I can say that I would NEVER go here again. more

Great cozy, quaint restaurant 10/26/2009

We went based on recommendations and we enjoyed our meal however, not certain we will be back soon. The server, was fantastic and knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. The menu both wine and entree had several items missing. Would like to go back knowing there was a more diversified and extensive wine list. The food was good, especially the pork tenderloin with fig jam wrapped ala beef wellington and the tomato bread pudding served with the brisket were standouts as was the peach cream pie served in a martini glass. Was disappointed that with no other tables seated we were offered a 2 top in a corner near the bathrooms. Did not necessarily understand this choice given it was poorly lit and not really an opportune spot to take in the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was also incredibly cold, bring a cardigan. Pros: nice atmosphere, creative menu Cons: seating and menu missing items more

My only regret is not visiting Mack & Kate's sooner... 2/8/2009

This is THE needle in the haystack. I can't believe I almost let my ""fear"" of a restaurant in Kingston Springs prevent me from enjoying one of the best dining experiences of my life! My wife and I visited Mack & Kate's for my birthday dinner, and we were both very pleased from start to finish. We started out with the crab cakes ($11), which were cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the scallops ($24) and I ordered the 16oz blackened ribeye ($32). The scallops were presented on a bed of lentils, and my wife was kind enough to share a bit with me. They were amazing! A properly cooked scallop is truly a wonderful thing. My steak was served with pommes frites, and it was prepared exactly the way I like it. The marbling was perfect and the spices were just enough to accent the richness of the steak. Some places think blackened means ""douse with spices"", but M&K's nows how to let the quality of the product speak for itself. I actually couldn't finish my steak because of it's size. (Well, I also didn't want to miss out on dessert.) We finished our meal with a complimentary birthday pots du creme au chocolate and a chocolate, caramel bread pudding. Both desserts were delicious! The entire staff was very warm and welcoming. It's obvious that these people love what they do! I'm sorry it took us to long to make out first trip to Mack & Kate's, but it most certainly won't be our last. I wouldn't be surprised if my wife chooses Mack & Kate's for her birthday dinner. Here's hoping... Pros: Food, ambience, pricing, wine selection (glass & bottle), service, very visually appealing. Cons: Can't think of a single one. Seriously. more

Romantic, Quaint Restaurant with Simply Amazing Food! 1/25/2009

This is one of the secret gems of the greater Nashville area. Located about 25 minutes from downtown, this is one of our favorite places for great food and a quaint, romantic atmosphere. It is almost impossible to believe that food this amazing and inspired can be located in the tiny town of Kingston Springs! The service is personal and attentive. The menu changes frequently and features new specials every night. The atmosphere is adorable - I love the open kitchen and white linen tables. - April 2009 UPDATE - we just held our wedding in the side room of M&K's. I cannot possibly say enough great things about Mack and Kate's! Every detail was completed perfectly! They expertly prepared and served dinner for 24 people without missing a beat. Everyone RAVED about the atmosphere, food and service. Jan and Jill made the event easy, elegant and memorable for all involved! Pros: delicious food, great attentive service, engaged management Cons: wish it was closer to town! more

Amazing food to match elegant atmosphere 7/29/2008

Mack and Kate's is an extraordinary restaurant with amazing food, welcoming service, and a beautifully exquisite atmosphere. We sampled everything on the menu, and every single bite was delicious. This is definitely a restaurant that should be on everybody's top five lists of places to dine. I can honestly say that Mack and Kate's is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at, and I plan to go back for more fantastic food and service. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

A drive in the Country for the best Food we have ever Had! 7/20/2008

After dining at their sister restaurant Mackes in Green Hills, we ventured out to the country. We got there just in time to be seated in this charming restaurant before the steady flow of people arrived to indulge in some of the best cruisine available in this state. Unbelievable is all we can say...the staff is truly amazing and the ambiance is quaint and welcoming. A short trip for us 2 exits west of Bellevue we will be making this trip frequently. We were relaxing unhurried and had a truly enjoyable evening. 5 star food with 5 star service what a winning combination! Pros: A Great Find! more

One of the best restaurants in middle Tennessee! 3/21/2008

My wife and I went to Mack and Kate's for Valentine's Day this year. After hearing great reviews from friends, I was expecting a great meal, our experience, however, was beyond great. The restaurant is in the middle of charming downtown Kingston Springs, just a couple of miles west of Bellevue (exit 188 off of I-40). With a romantic atmosphere and excellent service, Mack and Kate's does everything to make your meal one to remember. We started off with the baked gouda, served with wonderful bread and fresh fruits. I've never been a big fan of baked gouda, but I couldn't get enough of this! I then had the 8oz filet for my entree and it was so tender and delicious that it left me wishing that I had another one. The chef prepared a special vegetarian entree for my wife and she loved it. The desserts were just as amazing as the first two courses. Overall, this was definately one of the best dining experiences that I have had in the Nashville area. Jan, one of the owners, goes all out to ensure that her patrons enjoy their night out. I can't recommend Mack and Kate's highly enough, you've got to try it! Pros: Excellent food and service Cons: None that I can think of more

A Nashville Must! 10/3/2006

Mack and Kates (one of the highest rated and top restaurants in Nashville) is a superb and exquisite dining experience. I went there one night on a whim with a group of my girlfriends while vacationing in Nashville. The classy interior and decor of this charming restaurant and winery radiates with elegance and sophistication. A place like this, with its white linen table cloths and romantic setting, is not a place to wear your flip flops to! more

Your second home 10/2/2006

If you come to MacK and Kates once, you will never want to leave! From the great service to the excellent food, it feels like home. The small and quaint restaurant is very welcoming and comfortable. Besides a friendly and inviting atmosphere, the food is incredible. The smell is overwhelming and the presentation is gorgeous! The menu speaks for itself, ranging from crab cakes to filet or ribeye, to a fish special that changes daily, and ending with award winning desserts! The food is wonderful and you will never regret it! Also visit their other restaurant in Green Hills called Macke's. more

Wonderful all around 10/2/2006

Mack and Kate's is a must for food lovers! Having one of the owner's on premises at all times makes this restaurant an A+ when it comes to service. They are very accomidating, even opening a private room for big groups with a night reservation. The food is wonderful as well the wine. They have delicious seafood and steak, with an extensive wine selection. The only drawback is this is not a great place for children. This restaurant has more of a quiet, intimate setting and young kids would be a disruption to the other diners. Other than that one drawback, everyone needs to make it a priority to try this restaurant the next time they are in Nashville. You will not be disappointed! more

Quiet class with a New York feel 10/1/2006

This place is amazing. If you are a fan of high class dining in a trendy setting you will love this family owned and operated restaurant and wine bar. Hidden away in Kingston Springs Mack & Kates may be a little of the beaten path but well worth the trip. I found this restaurant thanks to a great referral from some family friends. I absolutely love everything about this restaurant from the warm bread and homemade herb butter to the wide array of entrees ranging from fish to fillet. And, if you leave without trying any of the deserts you are doing yourself a great injustice. I recommend trying one of the chef's award winning salsas as well as the crème Brule. If you like myself love this restaurant I also recommend Macke's, located in Green Hills, it is the family's other restaurant. Pros: quaint country location no city traffic Cons: distance and not easily identifiable from the outside more

Best steak and seafood found anywhere in Nashville. 10/1/2006

When thinking about MacK and Kates, all that comes to mind is AMAZING! It is hands down my favorite restaurant in Nashville for many reasons. The beautiful drive from the busy city to the charming town of Kingston Springs is something that everyone needs to experience. You walk into a quant room with old wooden tables, bright white linens, freshly cut flowers, glowing candles, and smiling faces. After being seated and reading their wine list and menu, it is apparent that you will have to start coming more often since all of your favorites are on their menu. They have at least two or three specials starting on Thursday night and continuing through the weekend, in addition to the 10 or so entrées always available. All of their seafood dishes are remarkable and are incredibly fresh. Their steaks, an 8oz filet and 16oz ribeye, are organic and can be cut with a fork. These are both definitely a favorite among the guests. Really, it is impossible to go wrong with any of their dishes. The chefs are unbelievably talented and are always coming up with brilliant new ideas. Their prices are extremely affordable for the 5 star meals you are receiving. This is one of the cities best kept secrets, however the secret must get out. more
