Great Customer Service and Selection! 1/4/2011

My fiance and I really enjoyed our experience at Marquis. They have a great selection of wedding bands and diamonds. We picked out our wedding bands with the help of Mark, the owner. I then came back and picked out a diamond to make a set of earrings with my old engagement ring. Mark showed me many diamond to find a perfect match. He allowed me to use the loupe to examine the diamond and pointed out what to look at/for. He did all the measurements to compare each diamond and was very fair on price. My mom now has a pair of 1.3 ct diamond earrings that she loves! more

STAY AWAY! 10/2/2010

Bought a pair of diamond earrings from Marquis for just under $1k. I'm no expert diamonds so I trusted the owner, who I dealt with. I have long since moved from the area. Recently took the earrings to my local jeweler to be reset. He said they weren't worth the money to be reset. That they're treated diamonds, barely worth $100. I wonder how many times they've done this to other customers???? more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! 9/14/2010

I'm only giving one star since I can't give NO stars, what this place deserves. Save your sanity and money. Mark is a jerk, plain and simple. He's nice until he has your money, then he does NOT care. He says ""no pressure"" and ""he wants me to leave happy"". My boyfriend spent too much of his hard-earned money at Marquis on my engagement ring. It was a special order (Read: final sale). BF wanted a semi-bezel, Mark had a bezel, so Mark had his people make the semi-bezel. It looks to me like they took metal cutting shears and just cut the bezel, leaving an unsightly ridge. I do not understand how Marquis could want their name attached to such an unsightly MISTAKE. I brought it back, Mark tells me it will take 5 days to fix, and he will make it ""perfect"". REALLY????? shouldn't it have been perfect the first time around? It makes me sick to know that Mark has our $$. AVOID AVOID AVOID. i wish we did. more

AVOID 7/10/2010

I have started going to Marquis before they moved to there current location 10 years ago. Mark may seem like a nice guy but he is a businessman and all he cares about is his wallet. Every time I go (every 5 years) I feel ripped off and after my last experience I will not set foot again in that store. Kosmima in Chestnut Hill is so much better and nicer people. If you can avoid it, don't even go in Marquis, because Mark will manage to sell you something you don't want for an exhuberant price (and be rude about it and will tell you that he made things happen for you). Small upscale operation 10/20/2009

I can tell you that Mark and Kathy (the owners) are the only jewelers we use. I run my own business and I refer all my clients to them because I know they will be treated right. They take the time to talk to you and without being pushy. Pros: Personal Attention, Good Selection, Family Business Cons: You have to be buzzed in the store more

Very unpleasant experience 10/8/2009

I went in to get the battery replaced for my watch. I had to wait 10 minutes because the owner was checking the current price of gold! When I first came in, he said he was in the middle of doing something that he had put off for a month so it needed his attention before he could get to me (there were no other customers). Ten minutes later he came out with another saleswoman (where was she while I was waiting?) and was chatting about the price of gold he had been checking just then. Then, he was very rude about changing my watch battery - I got the feeling it was beneath him. Moreover, he kept asking me personal and intrusive questions about my career, perhaps to determine how much money I made. Who knows. Anyway, I asked him to call me when it was finished, but he never did. When I did pick up the watch, I again had to wait for him to finish ""other business"" and the price of the battery change was extremely high. I will never do business with Marquis Jewelers again. ADDITION since original post (Dec '09): incidentally, a friend of mine used them recently and also had a terrible experience with them. I wish she had asked me before going there. I've asked her to write a review, but the short end of it is that the owner was basically yelling and belittling my friend over the phone over a dispute. I want to thank Marquis for one thing: getting into review writing. I had never considered it before, but I was so upset with my experience that they made me do something I've never done before. And now it's very therapeutic to put people on notice about good, and unfortunately bad businesses. Marquis Jewelers is a bad business. Great Customer Service 10/2/2009

We went shopping for an engagement ring and this was our first and last stop. The owner took out EVERYthing that they had because I had no idea what I was looking for. He took time to go through them with me asking me what I liked and didn't like about each setting. I ended up with a gorgeous looking ring that I get compliments on from random people all the time. Bad Experience 6/15/2009

I wish I had read the reviews here prior to going to Marquis Jewelers. Customer Service is certainly not their strength. The owner, as mentioned in the other reviews, is not a pleasant person to conduct business with. Stay away if you have the option. more

Terrible customer service 6/8/2008

The customer service at Marquis is terrible, particularly from the owner. They were ridiculously rushed with us, even though there was only one other customer in the shop AND they didn't even do what we had asked of them. By that time we were so fed up with them that we just gave up (and we'll pay more to have it fixed at a decent store). In addition, the owner went out of his way to repeatedly tell us that other jobs were more important than ours. The 1st time we thought maybe he was just honest, but by the 5th time it was beyond rude. Of course they were nice up until we paid our deposit! I would not recommend Marquis to anyone. On the plus side, the prices were decent. But I would have gladly paid more to have been treated with some common decency. more

Beware of the no refund policy 6/21/2007

My wife recently went to Marquis Jewelers to buy me a watch for my birthday. The owner used a pushy sales pitch to convince my wife to buy me an expensive watch that she wasn't sure I would like. (I'm not an expensive watch kind of guy.) The owner reassured my wife that she could return the watch if I didn't like it. Cons: Rigid customer service policy more
