Best southern style fish 4/2/2010

I just eat fish and veggies so I ordered their fish and it was extremely tasty. The BBQ sauce is good and their iced tea is dark, plentiful and full of flavor! Pros: Good fish more

Shead's Fish BBQ 4/27/2007

I LOVE M&D's!!! But moved to Centennial last year and it was too far away. Fortunately, an M&D family member opened Shead's Fish BBQ down here - off of Arapahoe Road, behind Target if you turn right at Wells-Fargo. If you love M&D's you'll love this place too - because it's the same recipe! Only it's easier to find with less wait time. Yeah! Pros: THE FOOD!!! more

Full Slab 11/22/2006

This place truly has the best sauce in town. If you are filling crazy try the INFERNO HOT SAUCE WHHOOOAaaa the taste is so good you don't want to stop eating but when you do you will feel some heat. They will try and talk you out of the hot for a reason it is real hot. The medium is my favorite dunk in a slab of ribs and I am good to go... this is the best Q in town Hands Down!!! Pros: Sauce, Greens Cons: Beans more

Grab the shorties 11/20/2006

There's plenty of reviews about the food, service, etc. but let's look at the whole experience. The feel of the newly renovated place is homey. True, I get better service at home but the staff tries, they're honest with you about what's good and what you may not like. I like the short ribs, medium, lightly sauced. Emphasize the ""light"" part or just order the sauce on the side. The catfish is OK, they do pork ribs and sausage better. Sides are on the blah side. Portions are huge but save yourself for some cobbler. This is their best dessert. Paintings from local artists surround you and combine that with the friendliness of the place, well you can overlook a few things. Everybody's view of 'que is different, so I'm not going to tell you that it's the best in town, just that I like it. For you lovers of this kind of cuisine, this is one to put on your list to judge for yourself. Pros: Portions, choices and price Cons: Parking & speed of service more

Some stuff great, others not. 10/4/2006

We tried this place since it was within walking distance of our B&B. The service was pretty slow as others have mentioned, I don't think it was necessarily because of lack of trying, they seemed a bit understaffed. We had the lemonade, which was fantastic, probably becuase of a lots of sugar, lol. We split the full combo platter and still couldn't finish it (and I'm a big eater). First the good stuff....the ribs and sausages were fantastic (just remember to take the casings off) some of the bets I've had. If you like hot barbeque sauce, this is the place to try some. The sides were all just average (cornbread, macaroni salad, coleslaw) nothing special about them. Now the negatives....the barbeque sauce was great, but they totally drown your food in it, definetly request it on the side like others have suggested. While the ribs and sausages were great, the rest was not, the beef brisket and whatever the pork meat was, were quite below average in my opinion, maybe becuase they were submerged in BBQ sauce. Stick with the ribs...and sausage if you like a kick. Overall, recommended. Pros: Ribs, Sausage, Lemonade Cons: Brisket, food drowned in BBQ sauce more

delicious ribs 8/28/2006

Came here with a large group of 30 people on a Thursday night. We fit nicely in the banquet room off to the side. They arranged a fixed menu at a fixed price which worked well for our large group. The ribs were delicious with the meat tender and falling off the bone. The deep-fried snapper was good but a little bit dry. The green beans were excellent, the mac and cheese good. The banana creme pudding was to die for. Pros: most definitely the ribs Cons: neighborhood more

Best ribs in Denver 7/19/2006

My husband and I went here and had the hot ribs. They are the best ribs I have ever had, melted in my mouth!! When they say hot they really mean it unlike most places. The cornbread and greens were fantastic. The service was great. I look forward to going back for more!! more

Hope you have a long time to wait 6/11/2006

The food here was very good. I went for the ribs with hot sauce, not for wimps. The wait was soooooooooo long. We went during lunch on the weekend, didn't seem busy but the staff made it seem as if there were 500 people in the building. Just be sure to provide about 2 hours for lunch on weekend. But the food is worth the wait. more

A Denver Must Eat!! 10/8/2005

After 3 year's away from Denver, this was one of my first stops back in town. I didn't even recognize the place with the beautiful renovation, but the food was even better than I remembered! A new addition from what I remember is Peach Lemonade -- recommended by Elsie and is really off the hook! My favorite dinner did not let me down -- tender pork slices with mild sauce, mac & cheese and yams. YUM!!! And always more food than I can finish in one sitting. There's always room for banana pudding or Daisy's famous pound cake though! And this time I had to take home the other half od my banana pudding too. I can't wait for lunch tomorrow to enjoy it all over again! A must eat no matter where you live in Denver! Pros: family feel, desserts, sauce more

The Jewel of the Hood 6/13/2005

I have been dining at M & D's for years and the services has always been the same. The cat fish and banana pudding is to die for. If you have never dined here give it a try and be patient because it is well worth it. If ordering BBQ get sauce on the side. Pros: Catfish, Banana Pudding, Greens Cons: Slow Service more

Best on the Eastside! 6/9/2005

Excellent home-cooked ribs! The newly remodeled place makes a wonderful lunch or dinner outing. Service was extremely friendly. A.J.'s the man!! more

Pretty Good 5/29/2005

The food was pretty good. The barbeque sauce was bright red (my daughter thought it was blood and she didn't want to eat at first), a bit different than I'm used to-- in the south all our sauces are dark- I don't know- bright red just did not look very appetizing- ask for the rolls- they are great--The meal itself was better than most- just expensive- $50.00 for barbeque (for two adults and one child) is a bit much.. One thing you must try is the banana pudding--Homemade goodness..... And beware- even the mild sauce is hot.. Pros: leftovers Cons: expensive, cold environment more

Ummmm...good! 3/18/2005

Overlooked gem perfect for casual lunch or dinner. Large portions of some of the best food west of Kansas City. Great sauces, good chicken, great fried okra. Make sure to get cornbread and not a dinner roll! more

They cleaned the joint up! 9/9/2004

It had been a few years since I tried M&D's. The renovations they made are top notch! I went for lunch and had the ribs tips and pieces with medium sauce on the side. I highly recommend getting the sauce on the side! The rib t/p's were very good. Almost more food than I could handle. As others had suggested here, I tried the peach cobbler ala mode. I should have skipped the cobbler as the cobbler was burnt. The ice cream dulled the cobbler taste (which, in this case, was a good thing). Service was average (I had to wait 5 minutes for someone to show up at the hostess station to seat me, there was no line and lots of open tables), but the waitress (Leah) did a credible job. All in all, I would definitely go back, but I will skip the dessert next time. Pros: BBQ sauce, menu selection, renovations Cons: , desserts more

BEST BBQ IN DENVER 8/21/2004

Well I once would have agreed with the others in that the service USED to be awful at M&D's. My husband and I just ate there last night and the service was great. Our waitress, Leah, was the best. She took our order right away and brought ribs out fast. The medium sauce was just right in spicyness, yummy. Get the hot on the side if you are a daredevil. Oh so hot. But whatever you do, GET THE COBBLER. It reminds me of yummy southern cooking. I don't know what that lady was talking about in her review, she said it was less than average. She must not recognize a good cobbler when she tastes one. You gotta go. It's the best. Pros: Inexpensive, BEST BBQ IN DENVER, great service more

great food-baaaaad service 5/27/2004

We live right near M&D's and have been going there on and off for years. The ONLY thing that enables me to even THINK about returning is the food. The service SUCKS!! The quality of service and attention to detail SUCKS!! It's good bar-b-que, great catfish. They've finally caught onto the 21st century and now accept checks and credit cards. We had such a HORRIBLE experiece there one time with the service that it's MIRACULAOUS that we've even returned, so I guess that says something about the quality of their food. It's very good. If you expect great service, DON'T GO HERE and especially, DON'T GO HUNGRY. more

Now this is real Q! 11/16/2003

M&D's is now reopened as M&D's Cafe after being closed for extensive remodeling. The interior is bright and clean and very well done. The sliced brisket is tender and juicy, the sliced pork was delicious and the meat comes cleanly off the bones when you order the ribs. The chicken had a delicious smokey flavor. The medium sauce was a little too spicy last weekend, but our waitress warned us. You may want to order yours on the side to be safe. The mac & cheese side dish was very good as was the fried green tomato appetizer. Save room for the bananna pudding. Perhaps the best I've ever eaten! By the way, M&D's now accepts credit cards and has an ATM on site. So it's easier than ever to enjoy their delicious BBQ. Give it a try! Pros: Great food, Large portions, Good Service Cons: Parking more

M & D's is the best 11/5/2003

first of all I would say they are the best if you like REAL bbq. Sam Taylor's used to be good when it was at City Park Golf Course but now he boils instead of really grilling his ribs. Everyone knows that the best bbq doesn't need any sauce because the meat is just that flavorful. Cons: wait is too long more

The best. 8/11/2003

Great barbeque sauce and beans. Noting beats the ""small ends"". Though I'm not big on desserts, I always have to have M&D's peach cobbler. Always consistently great food. No liquor lunch, but you go there for the food, not to drink. more

Check Please! 1/28/2003

Food- Well above Average. Mild sauce is very tame. Might try medium. Suggestion- have them put the sauce on the side. They put so much sauce on, it drowns out the meat. Dessert- Cobbler- Below Average Decor- No complaints Payment- Need to make it more visible/clear that no checks or credit cards are acceptedcash only. more
