A little disappointing 9/3/2006

we had been recommended to this restaurant by a family friend, so we had great anticipation. The dim sum menu is actuall an appetizer menu, with a number of items. The consensus of the table was the shrimp dumplings and spring rolls were disappointing. I liked my calamari portion - very lightly breaded and tasty, of a bit overdone. I had the garlic beef from the contemporary stir fry menu and that was pretty good. The green onoins and broccoli was crisp and hot, the relatively small portion of beef was tasty. The service was good, too. However, this seemed more hype than substance and we likely will not go back. more

overpriced for mediocre food 3/16/2006

Lulu's has a colorful little sign, with an interesting decor inside, and a very cutesy menu, but when it comes down to it, the food is nothing special. As with the case with many Pan-Asian restaurants, when they try to do too many things at once, all of the dishes suffer. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's bland or awful, but for the price, it's definitely not someplace I would go regularly. I feel like when you go, too much of your money goes to the (no doubt expensive) professionally designed menu and the Asian inspired decor and not enough goes into preparing the food. more

Alright 1/15/2006

The quality depends on what you get. I've heard mixed reviews from my friends. My personal opinion is the food is great, but a bit expensive, and the wait can be long if you go at peak hours. I enjoyed the Crispy Sesame Balls and the big noodle soups. Definitely worth trying, but not someplace I go regularly. more

Bland 1/14/2006

Evanston is a place full of restaurants like Lulu's-bland and mediocre to a fault. This restaurant is serves pan asian food and has dishes available for vegetarians. Unfortunately, everything that I have tried here tastes like stale bread. The salmon dish is truly awful and managed to taste under and over cooked at the same time. Also, Top Ramen tastes better than many of the noodle dishes here.Customer service is okay and Monday's are all you can eat which goes over well in the student driven economy of Evanston. more
