A Glowing Experience 4/23/2009

I came to NYC for the fist time in a while to go to the international auto show last weekend with some friends. On our way to the car we seen Lucky Strikes and decided to try it out. Pros: Atmosphere, Music Cons: Crowded bar more

GREAT DATE SPOT! 4/22/2009

THIS PAST WEEKEND WE WENT TO THE CITY FOR THE AUTO SHOW AT THE JUWITT CENTER! ON OUR WAY BACK TO THE HIGHWAY WE SPOTTED LUCKY STRIKES ACROSS THE STREET. FROM THE OUTSIDE IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS JUMPING! SINCE WE WEREN'T READY TO GO HOME YET, MY COUSIN AND I DECIDED TO PARK AGAIN AND TAKE OUR DATES THERE TO BOWL! Pros: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD FOOD, GOOD TIMES Cons: WAITING OUTSIDE, BUT THE LINE WASNT THAT BAD! more

takes bowling to another level 4/21/2009

I red some of the comments here, and honestly i was completely shocked. Me and my buddy's passed by and never got a chance to go in and check out the place. We called ahead of time to reserve a few lanes, i read about the usual wait for lanes on weekends and didnt want to be caught in the hassel. Cons: Have no complaint. more

Place was off the chaiiiinnnn! 4/21/2009

So i've heard about the new Lucky Strike bowling alley that opened and wanted to see what all the hype was about this place. My girlfriend and i went there on a Monday night, they asked us for i.d's at the door and as we entered we were greeted by friendly faces at the hostess stand. I couldnt help but feeling like royalty. Pros: Good Service, GO happy staff, Music was Great! Had fun! Cons: Some what of a wait....but it was worth it people. more

Awesome spot! 4/21/2009

I've been to Lucky Strike on a few ocassions and was surprised to see the ratings here on CitySearch. Whether it was a booked event, or a walk-in, we received great service every time. The servers are upbeat and attentive, and the food and drinks are great- something I didn't initially expect from a bowling alley. The decor is awesome as well- it gives the place a real lounge feel- this combined with the bowling makes it a great night out! Definitely give it a shot! Pros: decor, service, food&drink more

Very Fun!! 4/21/2009

I'm not sure what others on this site have experienced here but I just came with friends this past Saturday night and although it was very busy and we did have a wait for lanes (about 35minutes) the service was awesome and the lounge you wait in is very nice with a great DJ. Lucky Strike is a very fun and upbeat atmosphere.....this was not my first time here....I also attended a corporate event held by my firm at Lucky Strike and all had a blast that night as well. The food is great (especially the midi burgers) and the drinks are fast. The space is very clean and upscale so I understand the dress code ....dress nice and you will have no door issues. Pros: Great Service/ambiance more

great but could use some improvement 4/20/2009

we got there at about midnight, no lines, no cover chargeM and just made it for dress code. the decor is nightclub theme aswell as the DJ with his dance beats. the food is average lounge food and the drinks are served average size. pool tables are always available but there's a wait on bowlin alleys. nice spot 2 go in groups 2 drink and have fun. the waitress was a bit confused and it took awhile 2 order our drinks but that didn't spoil the fun. good spot more

A Great Night Awaits! 4/2/2009

I went to Lucky Strikes last weekend with my friends. When they told me dress up I was a little skeptical... but when I got there I seen why. Pros: Bar, Music, Pool, Chocolate Insanity!!!! Cons: Dress Code, but you'll get past it more

Great Time, Good Food, Hot Scene 3/23/2009

This place is so much fun! If I'm going to go bowling in Manhattan I might as well go somewhere that has a cool scene and is a one-stop shop for the night. This place has music (dj), lounge, food (tasty) and also a pretty good crowd. I would even just come here for drinks or to watch sports and check out the scene. Pool tables too. I wish all bowling alley's were like this... I'd bowl more often! Pros: Great Time, Good Food, Hot Scene Cons: Service ok more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! 3/17/2009

We tried to go here on a Saturday at 6pm. We walked in and not even 5 seconds later the bouncer looked us up and down and said we couldn't come in because there was a dresscode and they are going for more of a loung feel....umm you're still a bowling alley! Not to mention it was my bf that got denied for wearing a button down with jeans, but the jeans had a rip! Don't even bother going all the way over there. Go to BOWLMOR where they are unpretentious and still have a fun, cool, ""LOUNGE"" vibe. AVOID AVOID AVOID Cons: Dress Code, Pretentious, Rude, etc, etc etc more

They don't have their act together 3/8/2009

These guys are so disorganized and don't have their business together at all. They definitely don't seem to know how to run this business. Sat night my friend and I walk in at 10:30pm they say the wait time is an hour. We end up playing 6 games of pool while we keep going back to check on what's taking them more than 2 hours. Meanwhile it's close to impossible to chase down a waitress and the drinks are ridiculously expensive. Later when we finally get buzzed our lane is up, they tell us that because it's just the two of us taking a lane it'll be $85 + tax = $96 for the hour! We take back our cc and leave. Playing pool by the way is apparently $20 hr, but the four pretty boys manning the reservation desk were so frazzled they forgot to charge us for it. Thank god for that because the entire experience was a waste! Pros: ambiance Cons: indefinite wait times, chaotic, disorganized, over priced more

a night club that has bowling...... 2/18/2009

I think Lucky Strike rocks! I like the interior design, it makes the place feel like a club, I like that vibe. And there isn?t a long line to get in or a ridiculous cover charge. Open your eyes! It?s not a bowling alley so don?t expect plastic seats and $1 stale beers. The prices were pretty typical of an upscale restaurant in the City. The lounge is pretty sweet and it has a great crowd. I had a good time and will definitely go back. Pros: nice interior, good food, no cover more

Horrendous Service, Disoriented,Terrible Waitstaff 2/16/2009

My wife and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day on Monday (President's Day) at Lucky Strikes because we decided we to try a new bowling alley instead of Chelsea Piers or Port Authority. When we arrived we were told the wait would be 40 minutes although there obviously only 3 groups of people bowling. We decided to stay because it was cold outside and couldn't see ourselves walking or cabbing it back to Times Square. While waiting for our lanes we hung out in the lounge behind the pool tables and ordered food from an unattentive and obnoxious female bartender. Another patron came up to the bar to order a beer and she asked him who is server was and he explained to her that his server greeted them at their lane & then never showed up again. She reluctantly took his tap beer order along with my food order & seemed highly preoccupied with organizing a bar which was empty with patrons. Pros: Nice Decor Cons: Rude Waitstaff, Bad Service, Bad Attitudes more

AVOID!!! rip off, bad staff, crappy bowling 2/15/2009

Avoid this place at all costs. Where do I begin? After being told our wait (for 2 lanes) would be 30 minutes, we sat down to have a drink... $12 for a drink seems a bit pricey for a bowling alley, but to add to it, they charge an extra $2 for ice (no, I'm not kidding. ice costs extra). The 30 minute wait turned into over an hour. Cons: Everything more

Do NOT PATRONIZE THIS VENUE 2/10/2009

I was really excited about having my 33rd birthday party at this new so called ""hot spot"". I reserved a party for 40 of my closet friends and arrived promptly at 10PM, when my party was suppose to begin. I was told that i was going to have a private suite...It was NOT a SUITE!! I was on lanes 1-4 and they pulled a curtain to section it off from the other lanes, it was far from private! When i arrived my lanes were not ready and i had to wait for the previous party to be over. As my guest started to arrive i started to receive calls that they were not being allowed in, because they are wearing boots!! WTF!!! its a bowling alley- the shoes are coming off. After tracking down the Management and arguing with them and the ridiculous door man in LONG FUR coat. Only 10 of my guest were let in! I spent most of the two hour party arguing with that foolish doorman and the incompetent management staff about admitting my guest that I had paid for on my credit card. They REFUSED to let them in. It was such a horrible experience and they were very unaccommodating to paying customers. I couldn't believe the unwillingness to to admit my guest. They said it was the doorman's discretion to admit guest, however it looked like doorman's discrimination to me. He was arrogant and said that they had a dress code- no bagging jeans, white t-shirts, gold chains or work boots...NONE of my guest were wearing any of this! AND its the middle of winter so they had on coats! if they were wearing these things with the exception of the boots the doorman would have never known! The only other thing that it could have been was that they were BLACK!! This place is definitely trying to keep a certain crowd out- THEY ARE THE WORST!! and I writing a letter to complain and disputing ALL and any charges that i incurred from trying to enjoy my birthday at this unwelcoming establishment. Pros: Nice design Cons: FOOLISH DRESS CODE more

One Word: Pathetic! 1/18/2009

This place epitomizes all that can go wrong in this great city. The Lucky Strike Lanes brand appears to be trying so hard to be the nightclub it never will be, that it falls short of even being an average bowling alley. Bouncers, ropes and red carpet make for a hostile entrance and once inside the door it only goes downhill; the entire crew of staff appear to be 19yr old trainees hired in from a temp company 5 minutes before opening. We arrive at 630pm, without a booking. We are handed a buzzer and told it will be almost 9pm before we can bowl. At 10pm, we still aren't bowling. Now, if it's busy I would understand, however, at a rough estimate I would think 10 to 15 lanes remained empty and unused the entire time we were there???? We just wanted to bowl for an hour!! Furthermore, we must have opened and closed out about 7 tabs in the time we were there, there were only 4 of us. The girls serving the pool table area get overwhelmed when they have more than 5 people to tend to and so handed us off to other wait staff as they pleased. Then you have to pay for the pool table, the food, the bowling and the drinks as you bowl. What happened to making things easy, taking one credit card and sorting it all out at the end of the night?? Ridiculous. A few friends of mine had considered using this place for some upcoming birthday parties but on my and my friends' reviews from this weekend they will be getting no business if I can help it. Avoid the hassle, pick any other bowling place in the city. Don't even get me started on the mink coat, Irish sweater, handlebar mustache, Fedora adorned manager prancing around with a walkie talkie as if he was doing something important!!!!! A joke!!!! Pros: I swear, I'm really trying to think here.... Cons: Staff. Prices. Wait times. Attitude. Image. more

Is this place a Nightclub or a Bowling Alley?! 11/24/2008

Okay, so I had been to the Lucky Strike in Los Angeles, which is also WAY overrated, but a friend of mine wanted to spend his birthday here, because he said the one in Detroit was awesome...so I shut my mouth and tried to give Lucky Strike NYC a chance. Honestly, all I can say is this place is F-ed up! We called before heading over to see if we needed a reservation, but the girl on the phone said they only had a 20 minute wait. So about 10-15 minutes later we arrive to what seems like a club. There were bouncers outside and a dress code (for a bowling alley?!)...so after basically being frisked and forced to remove our hats, we got inside. People were dressed like they were at the hottest nightclub in town...which, once again in my opinion, is totally F-ed up! Now I realize that's kinda the feel they are going for, but unless celebs show up every other night, why would anyone want to go ""clubbing"" at a BOWLING ALLEY?! Wait, nevermind the celebs...WHO GOES CLUBBING TO A BOWLING ALLEY?!?! Whatever! So we go to sign ourselves up to bowl and the wait was now over 2 hours! Yes, fifteen minutes after we were told to just show up. Also, after checking out their prices we realized it was going to cost EACH of us around $20 PER game...WHAAAT?!?! We stayed there for about 10 minutes to wait for everyone to show up and then left... Hell No! Whoever comes here more than once for a simple night of bowling & beer, I pity you...You are wasting your money! Pros: ummm...I guess there were some hot girls there...if that's what you're looking for at a bowling alley Cons: Bouncers, Wait Time, Dress Code, Price, Feels like a nightclub instead of a bowling alley, the list goes on and on... more

Terrible Experience! Horrendous Staff! 11/11/2008

I went to Lucky Strike Lanes with 6 friends on Saturday night at 8:00pm. We were told there would be a 1.5 hour wait to play. The gaming environment coupled with the giant bar/lounge seemed like a fun place to eat, drink, and play. The weight time was understandable, so we went to the bar for drinks and dinner. Pros: Nice bowling alley and pool tables Cons: Everything else - the staff, the prices, the service, the management, the bartender! more

Would you like a drink with your game? 10/26/2008

I just left Lucky Strike - it leaves something to be desired. At 1:00 on a Sunday I wouldn't expect to have to wait 20 minutes to get a lane when there were only about 10 in use. Their front desk didn't really seem to know what they were doing, and when the group behind us got impatient the desk guy said they were ""swamped"". And BTW, this 20 minutes was when there were only 2 groups ahead of us. I can't imagine what it would be like if they were actually busy. After we got our lane we looked for snacks on the menu...our menu was missing a page, but I snagged a menu from another table. We ordered drinks in like the 4th frame and they didn't come until we were done with our first game. For food, which we ordered with drinks, we got chicken skewers and pizza and it came shortly after the drinks. And we had time to eat, since you can't just keep bowling and have to go to the desk to begin a new game, which is kinda' annoying. The chicken skewers were OK. The pizza was like the stuff you got in the cafeteria in 5th grade - doughey, crappy cheese, oily, etc. While I wasn't really enjoying the food, I found it aggravating that they kept trying to bus the semi-full plates and asking if we were done. I also would have liked a real napkin and a fork to deal with the chicken skewers. All in all, I'm not too sure I would go back since there are other options in the city and if I am going to calorically screw my day up I would rather have better tasting stuff. more
