Friendly quick service 3/22/2008

Little Italy in the Mission. You pick a number, get called and make your selections. The meat filled tortellini is approx $8/lb, they have freshly made fettuccine and a couple of other pastas in the deli. In the freezer, you will find spinach, pumpkin and cheese filled ravioli and their pesto sauce. Lots of cheeses and Italian meats (proscuitto, salami) choices. This place reminds me so much of the wonderful North Beach delis from my childhood days, many which are gone now. The counter has 5 servers and they're all friendly and waiting to help you. I found a box of Italian soft nougat candy for almost $8, typically sells for $10 at Victoria's Bakery in North Beach. And they sell Liguria Bakery foccacia bread if you can't make it to North Beach to buy fresh yourself. You can tell the place is frequented by regulars because the staff knows their customers by name. Pros: Italian deli without having to go to North Beach Cons: Parking more

Homemade Ravioli! 11/24/2006

I make my own sauce but love to stop here for the homemade meat ravioli when I feel like eating at home- it is so so so good! All of the guys behind the counter have always been incredibly nice and helpful too. it can get crowded but that just gives you a chance to browse the aisles. I usually end up buying more than I intend. Great place, great service, and great ravioli. more

GREAT FOOD, CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS 10/10/2006

LUCCA IS GREAT AND THE FOOD IS AMAZING. THE RAVIOLI ARE THE BOMB ESPECIALLY THE CHEESE&MEAT:o)THE PRICES ARE REASONABLE AND THE FOOD IS VERY FRESH. GREAT PLACE TO PICK UP LUNCH MEAT TOO. PROS: GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE, FRIENDLY EMPLOYEES, WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE CONS: LOCATION IS ON A BUSY STREET & PARKING IS HARD TO FIND more

beats trekking into North Beach for an Italian fix 3/4/2006

Each neighborhood offers gems, longstanding establishments that are good enough for you to make a pilgrimage to- and you know that you won't be disappointed. In the Mission, one of those is Lucca's. It is a great place for picnic stuff, you can get a bottle of wine and a fresh sandwich with assortment of fresh cheeses. Don't forget the wonderful tiramisu, just like Steps... For an uncomplicated dinner, pick up some freshly made pasta or tortellini with some fresh sauce, a baguette and wine - you'd be all set. PROS: fresh Italian staples, parking in the garage on 21st/Valencia CONS: not open late and closed on Sundays more

great deli 2/20/2006

Lucca Ravioli is an old school Italian deli that's been on the corner of Valencia for ages. They have a nice selection of cold cuts as well as homemade ravioli (!) and other types of pastas, as well as nice cheeses. Prices are decent and everything is great quality and fresh. more

Great cold meats, pastas! 8/9/2005

This business has been around for decades, and is a reliable source for Italian foods. Great cold meats--not your run-of-the-mill quality at all--and delicious prepared salads and pastas. PROS: Great Italian foods for an al fresco picnic! CONS: None more

A San Francisco Secret 7/23/2005

This is one of the few shops that have been around the Valencia Corridor for a long time. People walk by it all the time and have no idea what's inside. You can get italian food imports, cheeses, breads, etc. and other things from the deli. The best thing is their deli sandwhiches. If you're of Italian descent, this place is a must visit. PROS: Great italian foods CONS: Don't try driving here - rare parking! Take the Muni or BART more

My Favorite Italian Grocery in the Mission 5/14/2005

I've never been disappointed here! The meat ravioli is made throughout the day (they also have cheese and spinach) and is so wonderfully fresh! I love their meatballs and gravy (aka red sauce), as well as the different focaccia's. Lots of oils, pastas, and other Italian foods to choose from. You'll be served by a gentleman and never overcharged: the prices are fantastic. Get some pasta and some sauce to go, perhaps a sandwich or some bread, and you'll feel like you're eating at grandma's again! Bravo! Pros: Excellent Food, Outstanding Quality, Phenominal Service more

Fab. 2/1/2005

Lucca has the best meats and cheeses. The raviolis and homestyle sauces make a quick and impressive meal for unexpected dinner guests. (I made them for my mother-in-law and she thought I was a genious in the kitchen.) Don't try and show up on sunday though, they won't be there. Pros: parking, knolegeable, tasty more

Fabulous ingredients! 11/11/2002

Old world deli with fabulous goods and fresh meats. Don't miss the seasonal ravioli, local and imported wines, good artisan breads, meats, cheeses, goodies, and a poem of approval (in Italian) from Lawrence Ferlenghetti over the door... more

childhood memories 10/28/2002

Lucca Ravioli Company has been around for years. It is the cusine I miss the most, you see I no longer live there, but I miss their marinara sauce and their spinach filled ravoli's. You cannot match the flavor anywhere else. more
