some good, some bad, some downright ridiculous 4/20/2012

we'll go with the bad first: alright, so i went in here at my father-in-laws suggestion, because i was looking for a rainbow cichlid. well, they had them, in with midas cichlids and jack dempseys. rainbows are not considered aggressive cichlids, and the latter two kinds of fish most definitely are. the rainbows had the snot beat out of them. i went ahead and bought the best condition one anyways, figuring that some torn fins would heal up with time and a much more peaceful environment. when i got him home though, it wasn't just that he was injured from the other fish, it turned out he has fin rot as well and started to get worse. so now i'm having to spend even more money to medicate my poor little rainbow, who is thankfully responding well to treatment. next for the good. the owner is a super nice, knowledgeable, and helpful person. he knows his stuff, and he seems to appreciate his customers. all i had to do was ask about driftwood, and he showed me to where there was a pretty good selection of various sized wood. i had been thinking of a jaguar cichlid, but he switched me to my other choice of the rainbow because they're a lot less angry and they stay much smaller. his store has a pretty good variety, but as mentioned before, some fish shouldn't be mixed together that are. the ridiculous: i went back there because my brother wanted to see what kinds of knifefish they had, and he wanted to know if they could get him a centipede knifefish. the owner of the store was not there, there was a older dark haired woman and a middle aged blonde woman working. the dark haired one treated us like morons, and the blonde one was treating everyone who managed to get her attention like we had all grabbed a fish out of a tank and stomped it to death. she claimed there was no such thing as a centipede knifefish. (there most definitely is, just do a quick search) she sat behind the counter eating and ignoring all of the customers until she had no choice but to help. she only finally noticed us when we had to ask another employee about this fish, and when he didn't know, he asked her for help. first she scowled at us, then she basically berated us and made us feel like idiots. to top it off, the fire dept cheif came in and asked her to move her car, and she sat there and gave him a nasty attitude. i will be taking my business back to uncle ned's. at least there everyone is nice, no sick fish, and they are all knowledgeable, ready and willing to help more
