35th Anniversary...and counting! 9/23/2008

Los Baez will be celebrating their 35th Anniversary on Oct 4, 2008. Pros: homemade tortillas, guacamole, service and huge portions! Cons: I drive an hour to get here more

Extremely below average 3/20/2008

For the people that have rated this restaurant well it is obvious that you do not know real Mexican food. The food at this place is inadequate.. I have eaten at places in Mexico and abroad but I must say in all of Salem this is perhaps the worst mexican resturant I have encountered. The service was some of the slowest I have experienced. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a quesadilla as an appetizer and it arrived cold and unmelted. My girlfriend ordered a Beef taco that had chucks of beef in it so large she couldn't eat it. I ordered coffee and waited 20 minutes before I asked to have it refilled. Poor service and very low grade food. The one upside is their Chile Rellano. The C.R. was quite tasty and done in a jalisco style. Other than that the resturant is definitely not recommended. By the way they do not have cheddar in Mexico, that is an American thing....yuck. My grade would be a C-. Recommendations go to Los Dos Amigos or La Hacienda Real. Pros: Interesting brick work Cons: Everything else more

A Land Mark in Salem 6/28/2007

As far as I am concerned Los Ba'ez is a land mark in the Salem area. I was fortunate that my parents took me there, before I moved to Oregon when I used to visit them. That introduction to the Ba'ez family spans over 30 years. Pros: Friendly Service, Excellant Food, Quality Ingredients, Consistant Preparation Cons: ""They Don't Live Next Door !!!!!!"" more

Great Mexican In Salem 11/13/2006

Los Baez has been around for years, to where its recognized as one of the most long lived Mexican restaurants in the city. When coming here, one will find that the good sized portions, inexpensive prices, and great service are the reasons why. The food has been consistently good enough to permit multiple visits and the service has constantly amiable. Most will probably not fall in love with the decor, but most people don't come here for that but ""la comida"" instead. Pros: Food, Service, Prices, Portions Cons: Ambience, Parking During Dinner/Lunch Hours more

Great Mexican Cuisine 3/5/2006

I have been eating here for almost 30 years. Los Baez is the best Mexican restaurant in Salem by far. Their refried beans are the best I have ever eaten on either side of the border. Chips and Salsa are provided with every meal and I believe are made fresh on site. Service is prompt and freindly. Atmosphere is wonderful. I hardily recomend Los Baez!!! Mucho Gusto! Chuck Bradley Pros: Great service, Great food, Great ambience more

Deserts 7/1/2004

I would highly recommend the deserts they are fantastic. Ask for Sophia's sundae or there's the sopapilla's they are made fresh to order by Raul. A family owned business with all the family participating in the preparation of fresh food daily even ""Mama Baez"" get's into the act by preparing the dough for the home made tortilla's bright and early every morning. It's the only place that we frequent each and every time we are traveling Oregon. Pros: inexpensive, large portions, home made tortillas Cons: , not open 4 breakfast more

I've been going for years! 7/9/2003

Los Baez has the freshest food around, handmade tortillas, salsa, and other sides are great. Each dish served will fill you up with good table side assistance for more chips, salsa, and drinks. If you like hot sizzling plates Los Baez is a good place to check out. The food is authentic and can't be found at your average everyday Mexican resturaunt. Pros: fresh food, good service, friendly environment Cons: location, small tables, lighting more
