It is a gem in Los Altos Pros: Excellent food and ambiance Cons: Price

Worst

I had been to this place a couple of times two years ago and experienced questionable service. My wife and I recently dropped in again to find that if anything, it's gotten worse....

Best BBQ Ribs! 3/24/2010

It is a gem in Los Altos Pros: Excellent food and ambiance Cons: Price more

LOVE THIS PLACE 9/3/2009

We live in Reno, but whenever we are in the bay area, we eat here. The chicken breast was my favorite until my daughter told me to try the ribs. Now it will always be the fall off the bone and tasty ribs. Love the potatoes, cornbread and the drinks :) Service has always been tops Pros: Ribs, Cornbread and Service Cons: long wait at times more

Amazing place to eat 3/17/2009

Los Altos Grill is the best place to eat on the mid peninsula. Everything on the menu is amazing. The ambiance makes it an ideal place to hang out and enjoy the night. Pros: Great Food Cons: Long wait without a reservation more

Good Food/Service just okay.. 11/28/2007

Food is good here. Love the chicken and the salads. Great wine list! Waiters/Waitress are wonderful. Hostess' not so much. Not a good place for kids though. more

Unless you like being treated like dirt and paying a high price for it...Don't Go!! 3/19/2007

All thanks to our horrible Server I will not return to this restaurant (and I used to love this place). Our Server barely spoke to us when she arrived at the table. She spoke just enough to get our drink order (not asking about appetizers) and then prepared to bolt. My sister stopped her and she mumbled them off as quickly as a rodeo auctioneer might sell a horse and then took off without allowing us an opportunity to ask more about the specials. She mentioned Scottish Salmon (now maybe I am a culinary moron but this was the first I have heard of Scottish Salmon). I didn't know if it was a designation of where the Salmon came from or if it designated how it was prepared. So, when she returned with our drinks I inquired as to what Scottish Salmon is. Her answer...a short laugh clearly letting me know I was an idiot and then a reply of "Salmon". No kidding? Salmon means Salmon? Huh! I finally got her to tell me how it was prepared and she even treated my like an idiot for that. From that point on we only saw her when she dumped off our appetizers, when she happened to pass by and we stopped her for lemons for our fish and ketchup for the kids fries and when we told the Hostess that there was a hair in my nephews grilled cheese sandwich. Oh and when she picked up the check. We told her we didn't need change but she was so busy running off that I guess she didn't hear us. Obviously, she didn't like our tip because she dumped the change that we didn't need on the table and took off without a thank you or goodbye or anything. I think she was lucky we even tipped her 18% but being that I used to be in the serving world I have a hard time tipping under 20% normally. Although, I couldn't bring myself to give her 20%. This place used to be fun to go to with great food but the hair in the kids meal and the horrible Server is enough to stop me from ever going back. I also intend on telling everyone I know how horrible it was. I'm definitely not going back! Pros: The ambience is great; food used to be great but decent this time Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Don't waste your money on this place. 12/21/2006

The beef ribs had hardly any meat on them. The vegetable platter was below average. The corn was charred but not cooked enough. The food doesn't live up to the high prices. Don't waste your money on this place. Pros: The furnishings are nice Cons: The food is poor more

Best beef ribs! 12/5/2006

These beef ribs are the most tender, flavorful, and juicy I've ever had. It's easy to make good baby back... more

Prime Rib is Fabulous! 10/18/2006

I love the U shaped bar and the dim lighting. The Prime Rib is huge and delicious! The salads are yum yum as well. It's a very hip place that seems often crowded and a little loud, but I personally think the food is worth all of it. The service has been fine every time we have been. more

Good food and atmosphere, but very poor service. Beer selection is criminally bad. 8/14/2006

I had been to this place a couple of times two years ago and experienced questionable service. My wife and I recently dropped in again to find that if anything, it's gotten worse. I rarely have a problem with service at a restaurant, but our waitress was condescending from the moment we sat down. Making me ask three times and wait 20 minutes for my beer also got us off on the wrong foot. Then, after she took our order, we literally saw her twice. We needed more water and were trying to order more drinks, which translates to easy tip money for a server, but no help was in sight. Then she tried to rush us out with the check. Over all, a very strange experience. The salads and entrees (ribeye and sliced lamb) were good, but you can certainly find better food for the money in this area. The oreo dessert lacked imagination, but satisfied our sweet tooths. The menu is a little sparse, but that's not a big deal if the food is good. The beer selection is one thing that floored me: I think they only offered three or four beers, and nothing dark. First, that's pathetic for the bay area, regardless of the type of restaurant. But even worse is the fact that this place specializes in meats, and serves a lot of red meat. How can they get by without serving ANY dark beer? Another very strange part of the experience. After my third dining experience here, I really don't see any reason to ever go back. Pros: Nice ambiance; lots of good meat choices. Cons: Poor service; very small and iinappropriate beer selection. more

Come for the Cornbread 1/26/2006

This has been a steady spot for my girlfriend and I to come to. The food is really good, with plenty of rotisserie and grill options that are quite tasty (the chicken was great, but the lamb was just OK). If you come, you must get the cornbread! This is definitely the thing that keeps us coming back. Call for reservations, as the wait around normal dinner time will be long without them. They also have a nice bar, but it is usually very crowded. The no-corkage fee is definitely a plus. Pros: Cornbread, No corkage fee, Great Steakhouse fare Cons: Steak house prices, Crowded more

Turn for the worse 7/26/2005

The Los Altos Grill (formerly Bandera) was a long-time favorite, but on a recent visit I was disheartened by the unfortunate turn the menu has taken. I wholeheartedly agree with the previous review that the Macho Salad and pork tenderloin should be brought back post-haste, but more broadly they could use a general dose of creativity. What was always a straight-forward menu is now just simple-minded. The ambience and energy are still good, but overall it's lost some of its "special-ness". Pros: people-watching Cons: menu more

Longing for the old menu... 1/22/2005

This has traditionally been one of the better haunts in the area. You can still count on it to be a fun upbeat atmosphere with lots of people watching. Unfortuntaly a recent ownership change has left the menu missing two of its staples....the Macho Salad (the best salad ever) is GONE! People came here for this thing and now its just gone and no one can tell you why. Then the pork...melt in your mouth good...GONE! The menu is so/so now...food is good but not to die for. I recomend it more for the location now than the food...used to have both. more

Meat falls off the bone good 10/30/2004

I am still thinking about the stacked beef ribs I had. The portion of ribs was generous and perfectly marinated and cooked. The sides were also well-thought out, the coleslaw was one of a kind - and I don't even like coleslaw! There was a slight wait but the staff was very courteous and did their best to seat us as soon as possible. I tasted the rotisserie chicken and was glad I ordered the ribs. Another great thing about this place is no corkage fee, they even encouraged us to bring our own. We will definitely do so next time. Pros: No corkage fee, Great dishes + sides, Fast service more

Good place to eat!! 3/4/2003

This was my first time here and I had a wonderful time. The service was great and the food was very good... I would come here again... Pros: parking, service, food more

Unbelievably ... bad 10/23/2002

This is the second time I have been totally diappointed by this place. The first time, I was with a group of people ... some of us ordered appetizers and some meals ... and was told we had to leave the table to make room for diners. Mind you, everyone was having drinks, which have a higher profit margin ... so, go figure. This time, a friend ordered one of the "famed" chocolate martinis and was told that they no longer serve/make them due to the fact that they are not a corporate-approved recipe. Bandera's corporate culture is clearly not about service. I'll only go back if dragged. more

Highly Recommended 8/2/2002

This is a busy, fun atmosphere. The food is outstanding. The service is good. more
