You get what you pay for 6/14/2011

I remember many years ago when Longwood was ""the"" public course to play in Houston. Not any more. While they clearly have the most aggressive promotion around (bkfst, lunch and drinks for $39), you know the golf experience is bad when you can't wait for the breakfast. Played the course twice in the last 6 weeks. My friend and I play early and fast (as a twosome). In both rounds, we were met with golfers teeing off on #10 and had to wait. Not good. Fortunately, they were nice and eventually let us play through, but it is still a pain. The worst part if the course condition. I know we're in a drought, but the greens were in HORRIBLE shape and the fairways and tees weren't much better. All in all, we got what we paid for I suppose, but Longwood is not the course of old. Maybe one day.... more

Just terrible 3/28/2011

I only played 9 holes since their staff made a mistake on scheduling with tournament group. Also, they gave me 9 hole raincheck even though it was their fault. I requested full refund by email and they sent me a reply that they would call me back. Of course, they have not called me yet. Who would go If you are not guaranteed to play 18holes. I would never bring my guys to this course again. more

Great Experience at Longwood! 3/27/2011

Great experience at Longwood on a Saturday afternoon in March. The courses are challenging as they punish you for not hitting the fairways, which are lined with trees. more

longwood golf course 6/27/2010

This course really has the potential to be a worthwhile facility. However, the staff must have been trained in France. They are aloof and believe they are doing us a favor by accepting our money to play the poorly maitained course. The greens were acceptable but the bunkers were like asphalt and probably haven't been raked since fall. The fairways do not have yardage markers except for the 150yd pole. The marshalls have the disposition of a coiled rattler. Overpriced . What a waste. Pros: nice layout Cons: poorly maintained, rude staff more

Great Layout and Friendly Service 3/21/2010

Everyone on the staff was very friendly and courteous and I like that the atmosphere isn't golf-stuffy. The course condition was bad coming out of winter but has gotten much better and greens are smoothing out. My friends and I enjoy the layout Longwood and one of my friends gets a great discount for being a firefighter. I joined the free club and got breakfast, lunch, and 2 beers with my rate. Pros: Value and Layout Cons: Weather has big affect on course conditions more

Good layouts, inconsiderate staff 7/13/2009

People behind the counters don't want to be there and that in-turn makes golfers not want to be there either. I am very disappointed and ashamed that I live in the same development which hosts such a sad place to ask for a tee-time. Pros: Golf tract Cons: Staff; pro-shop more

Watch your Bag! 6/11/2009

Had my putter stolen while in the proshop. Staff was not concerned at all. It was amazing. Complained to Corporate, said they would get me a replacement at their cost- still waiting on that call!!. The situation details are to numerous to go into here but bottome line is I used to play it 4-6 times a month. Have not been back since. Not replacing that putter was a very bad business decision- I saw to that. Pros: Cheap Cons: Staff more

Terrible staff 5/26/2009

this once was a fine establishment and still has the makings for a great place with the layout - BUT, never ever have I ever seen such a p.o.s. staff. Rude, is an understatement. The equipment, well, poor. Upon arrival we were told we were way to early for our tee time, we were 45 minutes early. Put clubs on cart for trip to driving range, was told to take my clubs off the cart because it was not time for me to tee off. Had to carry my clubs to the range, upon finishing was told I was still to early for my cart. When we did get the clowns to let us have a cart they told us we had to hurry up because our tee time was approaching. The cart was junk, barely ran. The whole event was a low rent and I will never return on my own, will still have to attend tournies there, but it won't be because I didn't try to get it scheduled elsewhere. Pros: location Cons: staff more

Longwood 10/7/2008

The course has a great and challenging layout. However the staff is probably the rudest I have ever come across at any Houston area course and this wan't just one bad day, it was the last 3 or 4 times we've played. Never again. Pros: Great layout Cons: Unfriendly staff excluding food services people more

great track 6/12/2008

I live in Longwood and have played the course many times over the last ten years and I would have to say this is the best I have ever seen it. They resurfaced the greens last year and they are in great shape. I would highly recommend it. Pros: well maintained Cons: alot of play more

Still Needs Work 5/5/2008

As a resident of this area I have watched this course go through good and bad times. The facility is in bad shape compared to other courses in the area however it is the least expensive. The clubhouse is showing signs of decay and the staff is not all that friendly and unprofessional. The practice facility is pretty good but poorly maintained. Food compared to the other facilities is just average to below average and the atmosphere for after round drinks is below average. The golf carts are on their last leg and need to be replaced. Course conditions over the years has gone down dramatically. Longwood used to be one of the favorite courses in the area in the late 90's and early 2000s but has slid. The course is a great layout with many of the holes having no houses on them. Small greens and well placed hazards make the course challenging and the forest around course gives you the impression of being out in the middle of nowhere. 18 of the 27 holes had the greens replaced last year and they are still a little raw, time will tell if they improve to the standard of the other courses in the area. Course conditions have been a problem for the last 2-3 years. The course is poorly maintained and drainage is a real problem in the bunkers. The most frustrating part of the course is traffic. Way too many tournaments are played here and you may have to play the same nine twice to complete 18 holes. I have found many of the patrons here lacking in golf ettiquette as the greens have many unrepaired ball marks and many players will cut from one hole to the other. Traffic is slow and 5.5 hour rounds on the weekends are the norm. Bottom line is that one of the better layouts in the Houston area has been lost to poor management. If course conditions do not improve here by mid June 2008 I will avoid this course even though it is 3 minutes from my house. Pros: Great Layout Cons: Poor Maintenance more

The Staff 11/26/2007

The management staff at the Longwood food court could use some ""professional"" management training. more

New Greens have given this course a big improvement 11/19/2007

I have to agree with the previous postings that the greens at Longwood have been awful for many years. However times have changed!! As of Nov 2007 the greens on 18 holes have been replaced and are quite good. Yes they need a few years to really mature into form, however they are very clean right now. This layout is fun and entertaining, with some great holes. While not being extrememly long, there is a fair amount of great shot making moments and plenty of chances to get an eagle for those longer hitters. Most of the guests I have taken to Longwood enjoy the layout and feel for the price. Right now just under $40 to play and $24 at twilight it is a great choice for the money. Pros: Fun Layout, New Greens, 27 Holes, Great Value Cons: Crowded at times, fairways can get very soggy after big rains more

Is this a REAL golf course?? 4/21/2007

Been there 3 times ( I know...what a glutton for punishment. At least 2 times were free, though) The course is grossly overbooked every single time I've been there as well as every time anybody I've spoken with has been there. There is NO marshalling of the course. In fact, the last time we were there (and leaving after taking 3 hours to get through NINE holes!) the starter told us to ""just jump in with the tournament that's making the turn, they'll never know who you are..."" CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?? Pros: When you drive by the place and keep on going Cons: Actually stopping there and playing golf more

Avoid this course unless it is free. 3/25/2007

Played Palmetto 9 twice due to a tournament going on and it was a joke. The greens are so bad that they should have had a notice posted ""Don't bother bringing your putter"". No kidding. Cart girls were so scarce that we did not get a visit until around our 16th hole. Free should have been the cost of the round. Arnold would be ashamed that this course is part of his management portfolio. Too many great courses in Houston to ever bother visiting Longwood again. Shame, shame, shame guys. more

Need to change the name to Goat Ranch 10/14/2006

Waited on every tee box. Apparently 3 tournaments were going on at the same time. Course was in bad condition. Greens were terrible. Played the Pines which apparently is the best of the three, and then left as it took about 2 and a half hours...Will never return Pros: the cart girl Cons: the whole course more

Nice course, but has some problem greens 1/20/2006

Three sets of 9 holes. Starter told us to play the Pine 9 and the Palmetto 9. The Pine 9 was great, very challenging golf. The greens were not in the best shape, but that didn't really affect us. However, hole number one on the Palmetto 9 had no green. It was under repair, so they put the hole in the fairway, mowed the grass low and stuck a flag in it. I wish I had been made aware of this and maybe I would have chosen to play the other 9, the Post Oak 9, instead. The second hole's green was in bad shape also. Two workers were on the green who didn't even bother to get off the green while we were hitting into it or while we were putting. Get an e-mail coupon if you play here, cut's the price in half and a free lunch. Pros: Rolling terrain, Nice layout, Challenging Cons: Some greens are bad more

Very Nice Course 5/24/2003

Although a little pricey, the course is beautiful, well maintained, and interesting to play. The staff is professional and pleasant, and the facilities are firest rate for a day fee course. Pros: Design, Upkeep, Challenge Cons: Pricey more

Great Course 3/7/2003

This is one of the best ""neighborhood"" courses that I have played. The houses are not a distraction to the play. The holes are challeging but fair. My son is attending the Nike Golf Leaning Center at Longwood. There they teach kids as young as 4 how to play the game, not just how to hit the ball. more

Love this course 7/23/2002

Longwood is a great golf course; 3 9-hole courses. Great fairways, fraught with peril, exciting and beautiful. Pros: Difficulty, Nice staff, Beautiful course Cons: Expensive, Distance more
