If you're looking for a bold, complex seasoning on a fish taco, you might be a bit disappointed. Lone Star's fish tacos are about respecting fresh fish and serving it up right. The seasoning and condiments don't overpower the fish, but provide perfect complement and balance in a great taco. The other protein options are good too, but the fish will keep you up at night with cravings. They change the kind of daily fish based on what's fresh. Even with richer fish like salmon (which I imagined might be too oily for a fish taco) they turned out great. I drive half an hour to get these tacos and never regret it. I was also flattered when the cashier recognized me after only eating there three or four times. Maybe I'm sleepwalking there and making orders I'm not aware of... more

This is the perfectplace for a few friends, a date or a family outting for some real food. The decor is one of a kind and the patio doesn't get much better. It's just a good place to go relax and have a taco! The service is always great. They are very good at explaining the different options you have and helping you decide what would be best. I don't like fish tacos but ITS A MUST HAVE here!!!!! more

I just ate at Lone Star today and thought the food was incredible. I see that there have been several reviews commenting on the service but no reviews for the past few months. I can say that the service today was fun and friendly. The guy who took my order was smiling and helped me understand the different choices on the menu. There are a lot of options for a fast food ordering place so it can be confusing to a newcomer. He was also very friendly to the other customers. The woman who brought out the food was also very friendly and was helpful with a customer with young children. more

I was turned onto Lone Star in 2002 and have enjoyed at least a meal a week since. Over the years I have found the food to be consistent, tasteful, amazing, and down right Mexican! I recommend everyone give it a try! I am writing this review in hopes the owner/owners or managers pay attention to customer feedback. However, the service is ok sometimes and most of the time not good. I am a small business owner and would want to know these things, at least from what I have seen. Recently I have seen some awful customer service things such as; When ordering the employee doesn't say ""hello or how may I help you"" usually I get a ""what do you want?"" I understand this place is packed during lunch and dinner, but really? What do you want?? A simple ""hello what can I get for you"" would suffice. Yet when a Latino looking fellow walks in the employees have a couple minute conversation with him. I see this treatment of customers on every visit. I see employee's getting mad at customers for forgetting there # and I couldn't believe it. Rather than putting on a smile and saying to the customer ""next time if you could please remember your # it really helps us get your food out to you quicker."" I understand Lone Star is a truly authentic Mexican place, but when I go to Mexico I am treated much better by street vendors, waiters, and locals during my visit, than by the employees' at Lone Star. I will never stop going to Lone Star as the food is the best and one of the only authentic Mexican restaurants in Utah, puts Cafe Rio, Chipotle, Barbacoa to shame! I just wish that the employees could show a little bit more respect to the non speaking spanish crowd. I think it would go a long way in making the lunch line even longer! Again, I love your establishment, I just see some things that could really tick some people off. I hope you can see this review from a weekly customers point of view. It's not like I had one bad experience and never went back. If most of you don't already know Lone Star is the bomb! The Carne Adovada is amazing, the fish taco's could be the greatest thing on earth, and the burrito's are fit for a king! okay. so here's the low down. I've had fish tacos in mexico, i've had fish tacos all over utah, in idaho, in colorado. i've made them time and time again, with every sorta fish imaginable. i guess you could say i'm a fish taco connoisseur of sorts. by far, the most amazing fish tacos to ever have entered my mouth- lone star taqueria takes the cake. just go already for petes sake and sit out on the patio n' drink back a corona lime. geeeeze Pros: fish. tacos. beer. I just ate there tonight 11/19/09. I have gone here probably 15 times or more. Only down side is that it is a little bit of a drive, if only I lived closer. I just eat the fish and the beef tacos there, along with a Sangria. Classic sit-down Mexican place. *Napkins--No Problem, plenty of napkins to drape yourself in. *Godzilla--I love the Godzilla action-figure thing they have there with all the dollar bills and stuff on it. *Eat in-- It doesn't take that long to eat there, take the time to relax and sit in there. *Service--compared to Cafe Rio, don't have to wait long, the food gets to you in only ( literally less than 2 min., that is if it is not busy there) Busy means it is good, remember that. Busy at Cafe Rio, forget about it mann.....I would go there instead, they don't choke you with all the rice and beans. You have room to grab some ice-cream or something later. Good Good.... I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I used to go to Lone Star a couple times a month, starting some 12 or 13 years ago when they first opened, then I moved to Washington State in 2001. I have told everyone I know that is traveling to Salt Lake they have to go to Lone Star, they all agree the fish tacos are the best. I warn everyone that these fish tacos will ruin every fish taco they have anywhere else and again they all agree. I have been back to Salt Lake a dozen times in the last year and a half and Lone Star is my first stop after leaving the airport. Their burritos are the bomb too. You basically get lured in by the station wagon parked in front with the stickers all over it and the umbrellas in the back seat. It's a colorful joint. Yet it's the antithesis of the Cafe Rio craze. Yes, that means smaller portions. And tacos that aren't totally dripping wet. Nor are they stuffed with cilantro. But there's something light and easy about them. I live in the area and I have found the food to be very good, very well done Mexican Food - may be the best in Salt Lake City. The key issue is that the staff seems to be so comfortable with their jobs that they fail to deliver high customer service. As good as the food is there is a point that it may not be worth going there if one finds negative or hostile staff at the counter and through the drive in. I went through Lone Star Drive-thru and was treated absolutely terrible! First of all the gentleman before me was treated lousy also, the young girl with glasses that worked the window yelled at the customer to hurry up and sarcatically said ""HELLOOO..."" The gentelman pulled to the side and left the restaurant mad without his order! Then my turn came, I ordered 2 fish tacos and then proceeded to the window. I got my meal and then asked for some sour cream, I was charged $1 (then later found out it was only $ .50) After I paid I checked the bag for utensils and there were'nt any, so I asked them for some and the young girl rushingly and rudely said ANYTHING ELSE ?? I was appalled then her and the cook who has nicely helped me before exchange some words in Spanish about me, words that I can't even post, attacking my intelligence and calling me obscene names! Little did they know that I am Hispanic myself and also fluent in Spanish! Then I looked at her and said ""excuse me..?"" Then she shut the window on my face, turned her back towards me, folded her arms as if she had a reason to be mad, and proceeded talking to the cook! I am very dissapointed because I love this place usually, the food is amazing and the prices are great, but with service like that I will not be returning to Lone Star unless she is terminated, which is a shame! I live right down the road from Lone Star and I bet I come here about 4 times a month!!!! I never change my selection. Its always 2 fish tacos, they are amazing. They are the only fish tacos I trust in Utah :) My mom gets the Summer salad a lot too, with or without chicken or steak...its AWESOME. I've never been unsatisfied with this place and I've been coming here since I moved here in 2001. It looks like a little hole in the wall, but its so fun and family owned. Wicked tasty fish (the daily special was red snapper) - the tacos are as good as claimed, but the winner was the fresh salad topped with jalapeno dressing and fish. Hearty portions, friendly service, super bright decor and equally funky patrons. It's a bit far south from downtown for an everyday lunch stop, but it was totally worth the drive! The burritos are huge and very very good!! Can't pick one that is better, they are all good... yes I have tried them all. Tacos are all very very good, but the fish tacos are the best.. There is a dish I discovered, not sure what the name is exactly, but someones Plato... I'm a big guy, (bigger since I discovered this place) and it fills me up every time. I forget the head cooks name, but he is always very nice and funny... Susan is an incredible lady, I'm so glad to see her when I visit... Pros: Everything there is awesome!! I stop here on my way back to the hotel every time I ride at snowbird brighton or solitude. honestly, i think i keep coming back to utah in part because of the tacos here. i always order a corona, 2 fish tacos, and some chips n salsa. sooooo good. Lone Star is wonderful! All the food is great and the services is fast and friendly. Ingredients are fresh and food is served hot. Burritos are HUGE... i recommend only getting 1/2. Jalapeno Mayo is good. Pros: Not expensive, Great food, Nice Service, Awesome Atmosphere and Clean. Cons: Gets Busy but they are still fast at getting you your food. more
