Lockworx cares.... ABOUT you and the community! 11/18/2011

Lockworx is top notch, not only the best salon... Thank you to the owner Frank and thank you to my stylist Liz!!! You are such professionals and are caring and compassionate people!! You offer sugestions that your clients dont even think about when they walk into the salon. I love my hair and I get more compliments and refer family and friends there!!! The front office staff is friendly and offer tea or water the moment you walk in. Liz not only gives suggestions but listens to your wants and needs too. I attended Lockworx "underground for a cure" charity event last weekend and it WAS AWESOME and I am looking forward to next years if you have another!!! The exciting and fun atmosphere was Great fun. Congratulations to Lockworx for a job well done!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Once upon a time and other fairytales 11/6/2011

For all the talk about a high end salon, this place can't live up to the reputation it had in 2007-08. I went in for a haircut with Liz who suggested I bring a picture with me of what I'd like to do. I brought a picture of a med-long Shag cut and ended up with a pixie. I'm bald. She cut off 4-6 inches of my hair from the back before I knew what she was doing and it was too late to prevent the damage. Next the "teacher" stylist came out and tried to convince me that the cut wasn't that bad. There was no way I was buying this - I was in tears. The owner was on premises but never came to talk to me or offer help. BEWARE!!!!! more

Fabulous! 5/18/2011

I admit that I started out at the "other Aveda salon" and became disenchanted. I switched to Lockworx over a year and a half ago - specifically Theresa - and I couldn't be more pleased. The atmosphere of the salon is friendly - and that's ALL the staff. Theresa herself is an exceptional talent. She's a professional craftswoman who takes great pride in her work and care of her client. She's not happy unless her client is happy - from one appointment to the next. High praise for this salon! more

Terrific 9/28/2010

As a long time client, I continue to be happy with the ongoing efforts of Frank and his staff to keep up to date on new products and on the changing trends. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure that you are always happy-without question. Also, they go the extra mile with every service. Without question, I would recommend Lockworx over any other salon in the area. more

Most Professional cut and service anywhere in Lansing, Okemos, East Lansing, Holt or Grand Ledge 5/1/2008

I started using Lockworx when Frank first opened it a LONG time ago. I went in to get my very long and thick hair permed since it was the only way I knew how to wear it. He said no, you don't need it permed, I'll give it a good cut that will be nicer. I was stunned at how nice my hair looked!! He could have permed it and gotten a LOT more money out of me that day since my hair usually took two perms! I was impressed, and have been a pretty steady customer ever since. I moved to Holt for fifteen years, but went back after skipping around and never finding a stylist that cut my hair as well as the well trained staff at Lockworx. They always ask me about additional services, and I am glad they do or I would forget to have my brows waxed, etc!! I get compliments on my hair a LOT, and I know it is due to their professional advice and constantly upgraded skills. My current stylist is Mandy, and she is always suggesting new highlights, updates, etc to keep me current. Pros: great parking, it is close, free, and next to Beaners!! Cons: none more

Great service, knowledgeable staff 3/18/2008

Lockworx is a very professional and welcoming salon. The little touches such as the head and neck massage that is given before a hair cut to the warm towel that is placed under your neck before your shampoo makes it a very nice and relaxing experience. As a very busy working mother, I appreciate people actually listening to me and providing accurate feedback. At my first visit, my stylist, Kaylei, listened to what I wanted (a cut and style that was easy to care for yet still professional looking) and then offered suggestions as to what would best suit me. She was also the first stylist who actually cut my hair based on how I parted it rather than my natural part. After she was finished with the cut, she told me exactly what she was doing to style my hair and how I could duplicate the look at home. I will definitely be returning to this salon! Just make sure you make an appointment as they fill up quickly! My only annoyance is that the sign by the street is mis-spelled (Lockworks). For a truly professional look, they should pay to have that corrected. Pros: Great staff, competitive pricing Cons: Their appointments fill up quickly more

Superb Salon 3/4/2008

What a cool salon. I'm so glad I didn't let the bad reviews keep me from this salon. Everyone was very friendly, very nice, and very fun. After some time without any hair (cancer stinks!) when I finally had hair again I was very nervous about how to style it, work with it, etc. Jennifer was great. Made me feel comfortable. I have my next appointment booked! Pros: Service Cons: None more

Be prepared to wait! Bad customer service! 3/3/2008

Don't go to this salon unless you bring a book to read while you wait for your appointment with a side rude front desk staff! Four separate times I waited for over 20 minutes after my appointment along with a side of attitude! I can not believe I even went back the third time should have been the last strike! Pros: Good products to buy Cons: Service more

Best Experience in Lansing! 8/22/2007

I absolutely loved my visit to Lockworx salon. I made an appointment there after reading other reviews on citysearch and I could not have been more pleased. The salon itself is quite a treasure! From the outside it looks like your run-of-the-mill discount hair salon, but as soon as I stepped inside, I felt like I was in some kind of spa! My stylist, Jennifer, assesed my hair and made some suggestions as to what I should do with cut and color. She got it dead on! I have never been so happy with a cut and the color is beautiful! The cost was pretty consistent with what I have payed at other higher-end salons in the area, but the little extras here made my experience so much more enjoyable. I was offered bottled water when I walked in the door and had my hands moisterized and dipped in paraffin while my hair was shampooed. I highly recommeng going to Lockworx. I am extremely picky about my hair and this is probbaly the first time that I have ever gotten a haircut when I haven't almost cried afterward. Pros: Personalized service for my likes and lifestyle Cons: Very Busy more

Chicago prices / beauty school skills 6/5/2007

I am going to have to Strongly Disagree with the other reviews!! I found this place to be very rude, uptight nd extremely cheesy!! I would never come back here again! My styist had no personality , no skills and the price was extremely high!!! I am not sure if I saw this owner guy that the other comments are talking about , but I do know there was this 40 year old man that was making me feel very uncomfortable!! Not my type of salon!! Pros: aveda Cons: cold feeling more

Thought I was back in Detroit 5/31/2007

I was skeptical. I read the reviews, I talked to good looking heads of hair that I saw in town, but I still didn't believe that a local salon would be as good as my salon in the Detroit area. I downloaded the citysearch promo, crossed my fingers and tossed my head in to get the WORXS . This place was super busy, the music was cool and the staff dressed for success! This wasn't the jeans and bad makeup salons that dot the landscape of Lansing. When my service was done I thought it looked very European, my color was fun and my cut wasn't my mom's. After that, I had one of the best makeup girls I've ever seen fix my washed off face. (Kate?) The next day I sent my girl friend in and she loved it too. Pros: See above Cons: The salon is very busy, so you might have to wait for an appointment, it's worth it imho more

My best salon "experience" yet! 4/20/2007

I made an appointment and didn't mentioned that I was going to write a review about this salon. My first impression was the wonderful smell that greeted me when I came in their strangely located front door. It did not smell of chemicals as most salons do. I was quickly and pleasantly acknowledged by the receptionist. Next, I was offered some tea or water. I did have to ask her name. At this time Lynn directed me to a small changing room to put a wrap over my clothing. Almost immediately, my stylist greeted me with a smile and her name. Andrea had me follow her back to her chair. This was great, most places wash your hair first then go to their chair. Andrea asked a few questions and did something others fail to do, she listened. Following a lovely neck and shoulder massage, she shampooed my hair. She worked on my hair for what seemed like a long time, not too long yet I didn't feel rushed. Her conversation was pleasant and made me realize she wasn't going to talk about me when I left, either. The room had a great vibe to it and the girls obviously got along well and liked working together, which you don't see at many salons in the Lansing area. After Andrea completed a beautiful style on my not so easy to style hair, she went over what she used and gave me a couple of well thought out "marketing" gift-certificates, and a mint! When I started to exit the cut area, something strange but extremely cool happened, everyone in the room focused their attention on me and said "goodbye"! I looked around, but is was me they were talking to. At this time I was offered and accepted a make-up refresher from a very knowledgeable young make-up artist. When I paid I was given a gift for new clients which told me they really cared and wanted my continued business. Oddly, at no time did I feel that I was pressured, or for that matter, like I was even in Lansing. A few days later I received a follow-up call to see how my "experience" was. I told her what I'm telling you, it was GREAT! more

Best color salon and great customer service and entertainment a fun and professionial place to have your hair done 4/6/2007

I found this place, and I won't go anywhere else. I found over the years that stylist move around. I'm tired of chasing stylists that are chasing a buck. This salon makes me feel special. The first time I was in many of them said hi and all of them good-bye! I feel that if my stylist leaves, there is another one that will be just as good or better in a different way. One time my stylist was a little late( alittle over 15 minutes) at about fifteen minutes, the girl at the desk came out and presented me with a gift certificat to say they were sorry and aware that I waited. While I was waiting, I received a free hand massage! I have now been going there for several years, and although the stylist I used to see moved to some dumpy salon with nothing to offer but my haircut, I keep going because I can tell they care. The owner is a little older(40 something) buut he seems like he really cares about his place and me. He knows my name! I once had a product I did not like, they took it back with out making me feel bad. I will go there until I move or get to old and don't have any hair! Shelly more
