I'm not quite sure why everyone thinks this place is so great. I'm not from New Orleans, so maybe that's it. I guess maybe you have to be a local to appreciate it. First of all...

great family style for either Local or Italian fare 1/24/2012

This happy bustling place gets packed so there can be a line out through the bar..but that's ok since the frosted mugs of beer are overly generous. Outstanding food with overly generous portions so think about getting appetizers (fried pickles or shrimp remoulade served on Fried Green Tomatoes) and then splitting an entry with a friend. If you want BBQ Shrimp Po-boys served at the bar, go to Liuzza's at the Track. If you want a great sit down meal then its Liuzza's MidCity. more

Great gumbo, fantastic shrimp 4/28/2008

Had to respond to V2flu. This person obviously has no idea what the hell they are talkign about. This is a mussst visit place in NOLA. Used to live on this street, it is not in the gheto. If it was, so what? Cannot believe noone has mentioned the bbq shrimp po boy. My second favorite sandwhich behind the philly cheesesteak(my hometown). It is sublime! A black pepper butter and something I have never been able to tell what it is sauce in a fresh baked french roll which is hollowed out and filled with the pound or so of shrimp and the sauce it was sauteed with. The crab and havarti grilled cheese sand is awesome and very rarely remains on the special board. The fries are fresh cut. The beers in big chalices that are nice and frosty......get an abita for sure. And last but not least, the gumbo. It is one of the best if not the best in the city. Lots of chicken, a couple halves of crab, andouille, and some fresh cooked shrimp added before delivery to the table. I do not live in NOLA anymore, and I dream of this place all of the time! more

Very Good To Order and Take Out 3/12/2006

Usually the resteraunt is busy, and the staff is over worked, so you do have to wait to be served. It is highly recommended that you order and take your food out to eat at home or you hotel room. The ROAST BEEF POBOY is WONDERFUL! You would want to eat this poboy alone as you find yourself licking your fingers. :-) The mozzerella sticks are very tasty too. If you have the time to wait to eat, they will bring a drink fairly quick. But you do have to wait for your meal. Call ahead as it takes about 45 minutes to have your food ready to go when you arrive. more

Good good, poor service. 8/18/2005

I used to love going here...nice little family-style neighborhood restaurant. The Frenchulettas are divine! But, the service leaves something to be desired. On my last visit, an elderly couple sat next to me and were ignored without so much as a greeting for over 20 minutes until they left without ordering. Simply unacceptable. Unfortunately, I won't be back soon. Pros: Good for kids/family Cons: Poor service more

Flustered... 7/26/2004

I'm not quite sure why everyone thinks this place is so great. I'm not from New Orleans, so maybe that's it. I guess maybe you have to be a local to appreciate it. First of all, it's located pretty much in the ghetto. The gumbo was some of the worst I've had. French fry po-boy consisted of soggy steak fries, gravy, lettuce and tomato on a loaf, and wasn't good, nor was the chicken livers po-boy. Fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade was average at best. And the big frosty mugs of root beer are overrated. I can go to any FrostTop and get just as good. The glasses were not all that cold, and there was no ""slush"" effect, just some half-flat root beer in a heavy slippery glass. Prices were reasonable. more

Great n'hood food 7/18/2002

Wow! Stuffed catfish florentine special to die for, great huge frosty beers in mugs you can barely lift. Huge menu, we had grilled shrimp, fried seafood platter, and a fabulous hamburger steak on our table at once. Straightforward place with great food at decent price. Will come back often! more

Excellent neighborhood restaurant 5/12/2002

This neighborhood restaurant has a fun, low-key atmosphere and friendly service. And the food, with a focus on fried, tastes great. I recommend the fried pickles, the French fry po' boy (no, really) and a frosted mug of Coke. more
