Best NY style pizza around! 4/3/2011

Better than all the others around! The pizza is so so yummy! Grew up on Long Island and oh, how I missed the pizza!!! The ingredients are key and if you like thin crusted pizza with just the right amounts of sauce, cheese and drippy oil off the top when you fold the perfect slice in half, you will like this pizza! The garlic knots are also awesome! :) ENJOY! more

Not what it used to be, pizza quest continues 1/2/2011

OK, in the last few years, the update of the decor has been inversely related to the taste of the pizza. The guys who used to try to pick up on the cusomers, but could make a good pizza, are they still there? I didn't care if they checkked out my tatas as long as they made me a good pizza. I have been reccommending this place for years but sad as it is, I can't do that right now. Just nothing good to say. more

Great pizza 8/5/2009

I've lived in NY and NJ all my life, and it's always a challenge to find good pizza in places like Florida. This place has good pizza, period. I've never tried anything else on the menu here so I can't really speak knowledgeably about the sandwiches and stuff, but I have not seen a better pizza place in Florida. It's 5 stars for St. Pete, probably would still get 4 stars from me if it were in NY. Pros: As close to NY as I've seen in Florida Cons: Didn't taste any. more

#14: steak & cheese is FANTASTIC 8/3/2009

While rehabbing my house, we ate there 4-6 times per week! ( 3 months straight!!) Great Pizza. No, it's not New York or even Chicago great, but WE'RE NOT IN NY or CHICAGO!!!! (I've had both)The bread for the hoagies is SUPER fresh. Having a cold beer while waiting is the bonus! Keep up the good work! OBVIOULSY, people like the food, or they wouldn't still be around after over 30 years, now would they? Paulie, if you find that ""perfect"" place, let me know! Pros: friendly-busy-beer Cons: shredded lettuce salad more

#2 Pizza in town 9/13/2008

Better pizza than most joints but not the best. That title belongs to Gianni's in Tyrone Garden. Overall Little Italy's pizza is very good. The mozzerella and pepperoni are tops but the dough leaves something to be desired. Their italian dressing is simple but awesome. The philly steak is excellent but not the best. That belongs to Colonial Corner. They stay open later than most independent pizza joints and thats also a big plus. On the down side they use the shredded lettuce for their salads which makes for messy eating. They are always courteous although not always expeditious. Overall they do a good job and I order there regularly. Pros: Excellent pizza and sandwiches. Convienient hours. Cons: Salads (shredded lettuce), Bland dough more

Good pizza, Philly steaks, garlic knots, Italian sandwiches, cold beer 8/27/2008

I've been a regular at this spot for 40 years. There's no better Philly steak in Florida, the pizza is Northeast style- light crisp crust, the garlic knots are dripping with olive oil. It's a family run operation and it has counter service only- and busy on weekend evenings, with lots of little leaguers, soccer teams, etc and tends to be noisy. Go on Friday night early and catch the old car show at the Biff Burger a half a block north. With all due respect to ""paulie's"" reviews, this is one of our favorite casual spots. If you like it, check out Colonial Corner in Pinellas Park, similar and just about as good - or Gennaro's at Pass a Grille which is a bit more upscale but still a value. Pros: Very good Italian food, cheese steaks, cold beer Cons: Counter service only, noisy if crowded, avoid busy times, especially during tourist season more

2nd best pizza in st Pete 1/29/2008

Love this place! Owned for years by Tobias who passed a couple years back. Now his son is running the place and keeping up with the rep. Delicious pizzas, cold beer, great salads! casual place. Only downfall is the kitchen help thinks it's a pick up joint and you can hear their comments for each guest that walks in, especially us women. Other than that, it's fantastic! Pros: great pizza Cons: Kitchen help could use a muzzel more

Great pizza! 12/5/2007

Native New Yorker here. I have to say Toby's is the best pizza I've had in Pinellas County, and I have searched long and hard, north and south. With all due respect, anyone who compares it to Sbarro's needs his tastes buds checked. Sbarro's is disgusting, laden with goopy cheese, sweet sauce, and congealed grease. I'd rather gnaw on a cardboard box. Now Toby's on the other hand... the pizza has great sauce--not too sweet, not too tangy, and just the right amount. It has a good amount of cheese, not greasy or overloaded, and the right texture--not gummy or chewy. The crust is crisp, never burnt, with just the right amount of thickness. The ambience in Toby's reminds me of being back on Arthur Ave in the Bronx. Eating there, I forgot for a little while I was in a strip mall in St. Pete. I was a teenager again, picking up a slice after school on my way home. I love their cheesesteaks too, but I'm not an expert when it comes to them. My husband, who is from north of Philly and is a self-proclaimed expert, says Toby's cheesesteaks hold their own against what he grew up with. I'll take his word for it. I just know it tastes great. A perfect Sunday to us is splitting a cheese pie and cheesesteak from Toby's, football on the t.v. and the Steelers winning. Good stuff. Pros: The food! Pizza and cheesesteaks. Authentic New York ambience. Cons: Get crowded because they're so busy more

OK Pizza... It'll do 11/18/2007

I have to agree with Paulie... This pizza is just ""OK"". It actually tastes exactly like Sbarro's in the mall ...garlic knots and all. But, it's not bad and I have to say it IS the best in the area. However, that isn?t saying much. I am still looking for good pizza here as well. You'd think with all the New Yorkers in St Pete that the Pizza would be better. I am very disappointed. Maybe the folks who love it are native to the area and don?t have much to compare. I find most of the food in St Pete to be bad to sub-par. I disagree on the service though. I found it to be very personable. Pros: Great, friendly service and good prices Cons: Mediocre Pizza more

YES!! THE BEST 11/1/2007

I don't know what Paulie2002/Paulie2007 is talking about. Maybe he is still looking for the best pizza because he has no clue what good pizza is. I have been going to Little Italy since I started working at the grocery store right next door to them (12 years ago). I go there at least once a month. I have yet to get something I didn't like from their menu. I prefer their pizza to any corporate pizza place. The seating is tight when you go during the busy hours, but on the other hand, I have yet to go and not be able to find a seat. The place is great. I like the busy atmosphere. FYI ""Paulie"" I do NOT work for the place. I am only a dedicated customer. Also, ""Paulie"" you mentioned you went during a pizza prime time (friday night) and they weren't very busy, I'm thinking you were not at the right place. Are you sure you were at Toby's Little Italy?? I have NEVER seen them dead like that even during non-prime pizza times. So I think you need to double check where you were. Pros: Food is great Cons: No free drink refills more

40+ YEARS IN BUSINESS SPEAKS FOR ITSELF 9/4/2007

I HAVE BEEN EATING T.L.I. PIZZA SINCE I HAVE BEEN OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE. ABOUT 25 YEARS. I LIVE IN TAMPA AND I TOOK MY WIFE THERE ONE TIME, AND NOW ALMOST EVERY TIME WE GO TO ST.PETE SHE WANTS TO GO TO T.L.I. SOMETIMES WE MAKE A SPECIAL TRIP THERE (25 MILES) JUST FOR THEIR PIZZA. IS IT THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD? NO. BUT ITS WORTH THE TRIP IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND YOU DONT WANT WHAT PIZZA HUT, PAPA JOHNS AND DOMINOS ""CALL"" PIZZA. Pros: HAVENT HAD ANYTHING BAD ON THE MENU Cons: SEATING CAN BE A LITTLE TIGHT, NO FREE REFILS. more

One of the best pizza joints around. 8/2/2007

I have been going to Little Italy since they opened back in the late 60's . Its just as good now as when the boys dad opened it . I recommend it highly. Pros: food Cons: non more

Sorry - still only average, at best. 7/6/2007

I have a hunch that the owners are putting reviews here saying it's great, either that or these reviewers have little perspective on the subject of really good pizza. Pros: cheap Cons: blah pizza more
