old owners, great menu board, great steaks gone for good 1/31/2012

I was also one of the many thousands of people eating at Lil Abners each week for years. It was great and had a big board for a menu. But tried it in 2009 and someone had purchased it and had no written menu and only the one in a waiters head. The steaks were over priced and very poor. Stay with all the great steak resturants in Tucson. Too bad this use to be my number 1 place to eat. more

Great Food, Iffy Service and Ambience 6/22/2009

Went with a fun group of 7 for dinner. First impression...what a dive!!! Took forever for the waitress to come over. She was kinda bored and cranky. Did not like the verbal menu due to the lack of prices. But then the food came out, and it was fantastic. The rib meat fell off the bone. My steak was tender and cooked to perfection. Pintos, potatoes, and Texas toast were a nice addition. No one was quite sure what to do with the pico de gallo. Pros: Best Ribs Ever Cons: Service, Atmosphere, Price more

Bad service and dirty bathrooms 4/18/2009

This is a sad attempt at the past. The wait staff needs help and the food has gone downhill. The womens bathroom was very dirty. For the money it cost to eat there the service should be prompt with a smile. Instead we got a wave with I'll get to you and loads of excuses as why it takes sooooo long. They need menus there not just a verbal ""this is what we got"". Then more apologies. The steaks are thin, the ribs are burnt, and the bussers want to take your plates before you are finished. Never again. Go up the street to the Road House even if it is a chain, its alot better. Pros: You can leave at free will Cons: Thin steaks, burnt ribs, bad service more

FUIMOS ESTAFADOS 4/10/2009

Cons: WC SUPER SUCIOS, CARO, SERVICIO LENTO, MUY DESCUIDADO more

Way overpriced!!! 3/6/2009

The inside of the place is so dark it is miracle I was able to see at all! MENUS ARE NOT AVAILABLE* PRICING IS NOT VISIBLE! And for a decent meal for a party of two, you will not leave without spending $100! Not worth it! THROUGH THESE DIFFICULT TIMES* FINANCIALLY THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO!! more

Highlite of road trip 1/17/2008

Wife, daughter and myself went Tuscon for a night. Looked at yellow-pages for steakhouses. Name sounded interesting. Drove out and found place laid-back step back in time type steakhouse. Wife and daughter little on the ""ugh"" side when entered doors. They are the ""eat less meat"" type. Upon getting a ""whiff"" of the fabulous steak on my platter, each of them tried a bite, ordered their own and did everything except lick the empty plate when they finished. We are planning to fly from Nashvile to Phoenix again in April, rent a car and the highlite of the road trip will be ....you got it, the best place for steak and pork ribs I have EVER pulled up a chair to, and that says a lot. Li'L Abners, Tuscon Az. !!! Pros: Fantastic steaks, great ribs and friendly help in a Laid-Back, step back in time type place. Cons: Little bit expensive, have paid more and got MUCH WORSE. more

Classic Tucson 8/19/2007

Don't go to Lil Abners if you're looking for cushy atmosphere or mingling with the in crowd. IF YOU WANT THE BEST RIBS EVER, go there. I have had ribs in Texas and S. Carolina, but believe me, they don't hold a candle to Lil Abners. Best ribs in Tucson, period. The beans are pretty good too!!!!! Pros: Great Food Cons: Old Restaurant more

Overpriced and overrated! 7/14/2007

If you among a large party of say 12-15 people, don't expect speedy service. You may wait nearly an hour for your food. After dusk, use a flashlight to check on your meal. IMHO, this location is overpriced for what is offered, plus, it looks like a dump! There are better choices closer to town. more

BEST RIBS IN THE WORLD!! 5/7/2007

I lived in Tucson all my life and moved away 1 year ago. All I can think about is going back to Lil Abner's and eating their beef ribs!!!!!!! The meat just falls off the bones and is fork tender. Everytime I went it was always busy but service was terrific. My husband loves the cowboy steak. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who lives there and is visitng. It has great atmosphere!!! Nothing I have ever had tastes like those steaks and ribs over a mesquite BBQ. I wish we had a place in the Portland, OR area like it. Pros: The ribs are grilled to perfection Cons: Very popular and always busy more

Off the beaten path, and proud of it. 11/3/2006

Great food, live old world country western band which is great for the kids. If you want to find something thats off the beaten path, then this is it. The steak was great, so were the side dishes. Lil Abner's is the kinda place you could picture your grandparents going to every saturday night when they were your age. Pros: everyone is very friendly Cons: its kind of hard to find more

Best steak and ribs you can get anywhere, 7/31/2006

Went to Abners, and had a T-bone, and a half rib/half pork appetizer. The T-bone was the best steak I have ever had. The grill was outside, and they actually used real mesquite wood to cook their steaks. I havent seen this in any resteraunt. The steak was tender, and cooked to perfection, and not at all tough. The ribs were great too, the pork were outstanding, and when I say the ribs actually fall off the bone I mean it. The pork ribs are my favorite, and the beef are great as well just a lil fatty which is to be expected from beef ribs, and the bbq sauce was great. Well if you ever heard the saying,"" You get what you pay for"" this place is it. It maybe a lil expensive but its to be expected when you get a steak actually cooked on real mesquite wood outdoors. Pros: Live music on weekends. Great food. Best steak house in Tucson by far. Cons: Limited kids menu. A little expensive. more

The reviews are telling it right... 5/28/2006

Just came from Lil Abners tonight, and have the following thoughts. The chicken I ordered was actually really good, nice combo between moist and dry. My fiance got beef ribs that were very greasy - I guess the difference between ribs on a grill vs. being smoked. Waitress got slower as the night wore on - perhaps she had too many people? All in with two beers was $48 (not including tip) - a little higher than we thought. more

Our last for visits have featured high prices lousy service and bad food from under cooked chicken tough stakes and burnt beef ribs. Place is living on past reputation Cons: over priced , bad food, poor service more

Lil' Abners Satisfies 3/14/2006

After two trips to Lil' Abners, including prompt seating, quality service, and AWESOME ribs I highly recommend Lil' Abners for your next dinner out. It's best to get there before the average dinner time so that you can be seated quickly. The Jack Daniels Ribs are the best. It's on the more expensive side. But that hasn't kept us from eating there twice. Give Lil' Abners a try. more

GOT FAT!!!! 1/9/2006

I've ate at alot of steak houses. We went to try this restaraunt and I order a steak, and ribs. The service was ok, When our ordered came out my steak wasn't cooked right and my ribs had a lot of fat on them. When I told the waitress it seemed as it was a big deal the steak was taken back to be cooked over again. I didn't eat anything but my salad. I sent everything back and never was offered another meal, or for it to be taken off my bill. Pros: atmosphere, outdoors, soft drinks Cons: quality, service more

Over rated and $$$$ 11/30/2005

I first visited this restaurant thirty years ago when it was in the middle of the desert. I went back several times over the years and found the quality of the steak to be sliding and the prices sky rocketing! The atmosphere is great, but not edible. Pros: atmosphere Cons: price more
