excellent service from lex express 11/3/2012

I took the lex express from Champaign to O'Hare for the first time on Oct 22 2012 . The service I got from the company and the driver ( Reece) was excellent. I arrived ahead of schedule and the ride was enjoyable and hassle free. Reese is an excellent and friendly driver. Even though I was the only passenger for that trip, the company did not cancel or reschedule. I am very impressed with the service and recommend it highly more

Stay away from LEX - rude/arrogant 4/7/2011

Stay away from LEX at all costs. Anything would be better than getting on a LEX bus. We had a reservation to travel from Champaign to Chicago O'Hare. We called to find out where to board the bus and the LEX office staff could not definitively tell us where to stand. Their website also does not accurately mark the boarding location. We followed instructions (poor as they were) and stood in front of the ISR dorm. We arrived 15 minutes early. The bus arrived, however it stopped about 50 feet away at Levis Center. As we walked towards the bus, a passenger boarded, but then the driver closed the door and took off! We ran towards the bus, waving frantically, and finally either another passenger or the driver noticed and the bus stopped. When we reached the bus, the driver was extremely arrogant. He said that you are not on the passenger list (without even checking). When we insisted he check the list, he did so, and said, "Oh yeah, you are on my list." We told the driver that it was extremely stressful for us (both nearly 80 years old) to run so far after the bus. He arrogantly replied,"If you want to go with another bus I will take your suitcase down". He repeated this 3 times in total! We arrived in one piece at the airport eventually but what a toll on our mental and physical health. If you don't mind going with a rude and arrogant bus driver, and can afford to run blocks after a bus that leaves without letting you board, then go with LEX. Otherwise, stay away. more

Lost my luggage, didn't care 1/23/2009

Suburban Express (aka illinishuttle.com, bigbus.com, lincolnlandexpress.com) proved to be a horrific experience for me. The driver forgot to close the side doors to the luggage compartment and I lost my luggage two hours from home. He had no idea what to do and became uncooperative. He refused to give me his last name, left me out in the cold, and only called in upon my insistence. What’s worse, the president of the company, Dennis Toeppen, responded to my serious complaint by saying that I was a “pushy fellow” and that the driver was one of their nicest. If that was the case, I could not imagine how unpleasant the other drivers must be. Mr. Toeppen also claimed that he drove seven hours on the route of the bus to find my suitcase. However, the driver had stopped and closed the side doors within a few miles of beginning the trip, which indicates that either Mr. Toeppen is not very bright or he is a complete liar. In the end, I was fortunate enough to have my luggage returned at the expense of a Good Samaritan. Mr. Toeppen then offered to repair the suitcase, which seemed disingenuous given that he had no idea whether the items inside it were intact. Would I care about the suitcase if half the stuff inside was soiled/broken? I decided that I was lucky, but further correspondence was futile. With Suburban Express, I’ve come across several ploys, such as ‘no refunds’ written everywhere and isolating students from their parents, which should come off as red flags. If your complaint costs them time, they may charge your credit card without your knowledge. The idea behind looking at reviews is usually to see if the good outweigh the bad. However, for the business of transportation, in which reliability is key, positives should not simply cancel out negatives. Instead, satisfactory, expected service should be considered neutral, and instances of bad experiences should weigh decisively on your final choice to use the service. I strongly recommend considering other options. more

AVOID AT ALL COST 7/17/2006

DO NOT - I REPEAT - DO NOT USE THIS BUS SERVICE. They misrepresent travel times, make you ride in extremely old, worn out vans, and even make you change vehicles enroute. The NEVER mention this in advance. I don't think I've even HEARD OF them arriving on time anywhere. Also, their phone employees are as dumb as a rock. Ask them where your (inevitibly late) van or bus is, and they won't tell you. All they'll do is say "it's coming". more
