The Onion Grille 10/26/2011

Delicious food and great atmosphere! Located right by the Hastings Bridge, this place is located in a beautifully updated historic building. This was the old Levee Cafe, but it doesn't resemble the old service, food or management. Service is friendly and prompt. And everything is so clean, which is a BIG plus in my book. We'll be back on Wednesdays for ""Wine Not Wednesday"" - 1/2 price bottles of wine, we're there! more

The Onion Grille is the old Levee 10/25/2011

So happy that The Onion Grille has opened in the former Levee Cafe. What a wonderful location for a restaurant! The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was cool! We had dinner, wine and a good time. Can't wait to go back! more

The Levee has Broke! 6/13/2009

Garbage, Garbage, Garbage. The food, the staff and the management are slime. It all stems from the owner of this dive. I will never go back. I'm so disgusted with this place I can't even go into details. Snotty servers, cold food and complete indifference....Wow Pros: None.. Worst place ever Cons: This place exists.. more

Nice Easter Buffet 3/31/2008

I must say I found the other reviews ?interesting? and wonder if the author (as it appears they filled out several reviews for one experience) actually ate at the same restaurant as I did for Easter Buffet.\r \r We had a reservation for 15 and were seated almost as soon as we arrived. The waitress took our drink order and promptly returned with assistance to hand them out. I am not a big fan of buffets, especially breakfast buffets because they can quickly turn to something less than desirable. However for the most part this was an exception to my rule and was well done. There was a large variety of foods all kept fresh and warm by bringing them out in small quantities on a regular basis. The waitress checked with our table on several occasions to make sure everything was going well.\r \r I will agree that for the Buffett the dining room was a little crowded, but understandably so with so many more families choosing to eat out on holidays than in the past. \r more

Complete Disappointment 3/23/2008

I made reservations for Easter Dinner. Had people coming in from out of town and wanted to show off The Levee Cafe, because it used to be great! Not anymore. Even with reservations we waited close to half an hour. They were serving a buffet although they hadn't told us this when we made our reservations. The food was what you would get at any Eat N'Run type of place. The service was non-existant. Horribly overcrowded. The people at the tables around us were grumbling and complaining. I saw the greeter chewed out for the long wait. The manager was hiding in the back. It was a disaster. Then the bill came Over $15.00 a person for a mediocre buffet of scrambled eggs and soggy french toast. It's too bad since this used to be such a terrific place. I saw one family all dressed up with an elderly man in a wheelchair that they had to stick this poor old guy in the bar area since there was no room to move in the dining room. I felt so sorry for them. Pretty much a complete disappointment all around. Small town courtesy and service is apparently a thing of the past. Too bad. Pros: Location Cons: Whoever is now running the place has ruined it more

Avoid anytime 3/23/2008

Overcrowded. No room to move and while serving a buffet. It was ridiculous. Then the food was just like at any Howard Johnsons. I thought this place was supposed to be better then McDonalds? The kid serving the water was OK. The water was OK. It was just slightly runnier then the eggs. They said they had Sliced Ham, but it was more like shaved Ham. My bacon was thicker. And there were no knives at the table to cut the ham with. Pros: The water was good Cons: The rest sucked more

Embarrassing 3/23/2008

It was my bright Idea to go there for Easter dinner. I have never been so embarrassed in my life! I thought I'd treat my family to a nice dinner. Wrong! We had reservations but still had to wait, particularly inconvenient with two elderly guests. Then they are not serving dinner, they have a buffet set up, which they failed to mention when the reservation was made. The food was mediocre at best. The tables were so crammed together that it was difficult to navigate through the restaurant, unfortunate since it was necessary to do so in order to reach the buffet line. To my chagrin, my guests even admitted that the meal was poor. Never again! Cons: Virtually everything more

Awful 3/23/2008

Made reservatons for Dinner for Easter Sunday for a party of seven. Reservation completely ignored, Waited and waited and were seated after walkins. The seating for seven was two table for two shoved together, only to find no dinner today, just buffet. Steam table buffet. Old Country Buffet does it better! The omelet bar was, you order an omelet and wait 20 minutes! No one was working the omelet bar. Poor food. Over crowded. Service non existant. And, all this for only about $16.00 a head! Oh and at least Perkins gives you seven sets of silver ware for seven people, not the five we received. We and the people at the next table had to coordinate who went up to the buffet when cause we couldn't move our chairs simultaniously. This place used to be great! Now it's just awful!\r Cons: Service, Food, and Cost more

food was the best part 12/27/2007

I ate at the Levee Cafe about 6-8 months ago and still remember it today. The food was phenomenal! My wife had the duck breast with extra crispy skin and grand marnier sauce, which was cooked perfectly medium-rare. I had the daily special, and the chefs deffinatly brought their A game that night. The plating of my dish alone was like a work of art. It wasn't a meal I would have expected in Hasting's, Minnesota (sorry Hasting's, you don't have much going on culinary wise!) The service was friendly and prompt. Although I wish the server would have been a little more knowledgeable about the food itself ( you have to know what your selling). The food came out at a good pace for it being a fairly busy Friday night. The bar was missing a few items, which I wouldn't have expected from a place like this and the dining room itself needed a good scrub down. I will go back for sure if I am ever in the area again. Good luck Levee! Pros: FOOD Cons: Service, ambience and missing bar items more

Very solid and consistent food. Soups are great. Good service. 4/11/2007

A nice old downtown place with historical photos on the walls. Great service unless it's really busy. Love a few of the appetizers. (Artichoke dip, oriental rolls, etc.) Treat kids and families well. Pros: Food, service, an old downtown atmosphere. more

Fantastic food and service served in an elegant, casual atmosphere! Generous portions, too! 10/30/2006

We had Sunday lunch at the Levee and it was great! Their homemade mashed potatoes melt in your mouth. Even though it was very busy when we were there, the service was fast and friendly. My girlfriend had a pasta dish and I had salmon with lemon cream sauce. Super delicious! I highly recommend the Levee if you are in Hastings. Pros: Great service and food - very creative menu! more

Worst Service and Food Ever 8/21/2006

I have to say, I read the reviews and thought well they happened awhile ago so maybe the place had changed. Was I ever wrong. The food is still cold the service if you call it that is cold unfriendly and unhelpful. The drinks were poorly mixed and you couldn't find a waitress even if you wanted so that you could send the aweful drink back. The stupid train they had running around the track above the dining area kept getting stuck and then gave off an ear piercing screech as it got going again that lasted half the lap around the room. I was just waiting for the defective train to fall on me. Definately don't waste your money, time or patience at this place. Cons: price, service, bartender more

Ouch! 10/9/2003

Poor food, snotty service and high prices are not my idea of a good dining experience. I would steer clear from this place. Cons: food, service, price more

great duck 5/18/2003

after a bad experience last time I was not planning on going back. My girlfriend loves the place and talked me into going back and I am glad she did. I had the best duck and her white fish was great. Ive changed my mind and will be going back again. Pros: food more

DISSAPPOINTING 4/4/2003

Although we had heard that the food was not good here, my wife and I decided we had to try for ourselves. Mistake. In addition to poor food, the service was about as friendly as what you would receive at your local fast food joint. I would not recommend that you waste your time and money at this place. Cons: food, cleanliness, service more

Great Place 3/4/2003

Very good food! Their cajun crab claws are terrific. I also enjoyed the fresh fish special a very nice sea bass that would of cost me twice as much in the twin cities. Nice wine list as well. Wish the Levee was closer I would be there twice a week. Pros: Good Value, Great Food, casual and friendly more

Wonderful 7/3/2002

This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Food was great and service was the best I ever had. They me feel comfortable and relax. I would recommend this restruant to any one. more

WOW! 6/8/2002

A great place to celebrate a special occasion. My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary at the Levee Cafe. The staff paid attention to every detail of our evening including suprising my with with the necklace I dropped off ahead of time. The food was great (I recommend the Scallops) as well as the service which was perfectly timed. The bar is very cozy for private conversations. I also liked the scale model train that actually runs around the dining room ceiling. Thanks Levee! Pros: Great Food, Attentive Service, Cozy Atmosphere Cons: Not in Minneapolis more
