Several years ago I bought a pair of eyeglasses from Lenscrafters while I was living in Canada at the suggestion of my sister. I wanted new glasses anyway and she needed to use their one-hour service because her son broke hers and she’s blind as a bat and can’t wait the few days at other places.
At any rate, I just recently got new glasses from an independent optician because where I used to work had crappy insurance and wouldn’t have paid Lenscrafters, but did you know that if you’re a AAA member you save 20% off frames? Couple that with their new 30-day return policy and the fact that, even with my insurance, glasses from Lenscrafters would have cost me maybe an additional $30, I probably would have returned to Lenscrafters. Even if you’re not a AAA member, Lenscrafters always has coupons for up to $100 off new frames.
I like Lenscrafters so much because they’re so convenient – out of the four malls in my area two of them have locations inside the mall and the other two are not far from a stand alone Lenscrafters. They also do adjustments, clean your lenses, replace nose pads, temple guards, screws, etc. all for free for frames purchased from them. If you didn’t purchase from them, they will still make adjustments for you (I still go there) and clean your lenses, but all the other services are $5.
I’ve been to all four locations near me and I’ve only had a problem with an idiot old man who worked at the Mall at Wellington Green. Grumpy old guy, who shouldn’t have been at work that day, broke my temple guard (the piece that covers the end of the frame and sit on your ears) and told me that there wasn’t anything he could do, even though there are signs posted that broken temple guards are replaced free – especially since he broke them! He didn’t even clean my glasses after the adjustment (which wasn’t right anyway, but I didn’t want him breaking my frames entirely).
Before I left the mall I called the manager of the store and told him what happened and told me that shouldn’t have happened and the guy should have replaced my temple guard – although at first the manager was siding with his employee. Grr. I was so turned off by that location I actually drove to another location and got the thing replaced and my glasses adjusted from very pleasant ladies at the Gardens Mall. Needless to say, the old guy was transferred off the floor (even the ladies at the other location heard of this guy) and I’ve never gotten an adjustment made at the Welli Mall since.
