Come here for the fresh lemonade, but 11/13/2012

Come here for the fresh lemonade, but use it to wash down the extensive buffet of hot and cold selections. It's like a Whole Foods hot bar on steroids and they serve it to you. This convenient location is on the edge of Abbot Kinney so you can get in and out quickly or stroll the shops and boutiques before or after a delicious and affordable meal. more

Lemonades to die for! 1/19/2011

Lemonade's freshly made lemonades are out of this world delicious! My favorite thing to thirstily drink down as though they were going out of style during sunny days at the beach, but cloudy days also - all year round. Lemonade's relaxed atmosphere and food are great as well; the most convenient and mouthwatering beach lunch around. The staff is friendly and will happily explain all ingredients in Lemonade's dishes to you if you happen to have any allergies (not always the case at other establishments who can get annoyed), in addition to offering a very visually appealing display of what's on the menu. more

I really tried 11/17/2010

I really tried to like this place , its a couple minutes from my house. I loved the idea of a ""cafeteria"" however , it never delivered. I went twice and was dissappointed. Besides it being pricey my food was sub par. My ""hot""food was always cold by the time I got to the cash register and today I ordered the braised chicken special and it was cold , tasteless and difficult to cut through. The salads while visually atractive but don't deliver. I also don't like eating off paper plates and picnic ware. There are no condiments to spice up what should of had flavor more

Mouth-watering Market Sides 3/14/2010

I'm a sucker for cafeterias, because I grew up eating PB & J lunches out of brown bags. In my mind, kids with lunch passes equated to Willy Wonka golden ticket holders. Several years later, armed with superior taste buds, I was thrilled that cafeterias are making their way to Los Angeles. I frequent both the Abbot Kinney and Beverly location; both offer excellent service and the same selection of delicious sides. When I first went to Lemonade, my mom and I were floored by all of the choices. We couldn't make our minds and tasted several of the sides. Our server noticed out indecisiveness and informed us that we can split each side into two. Hence, a two side plate happily became melody of four sides! We tried the following sides: 1) Israeli couscous with wild mushrooms 2) quinoa, butternut squash and whole orange vinaigrette 3) cherry tomatoes and pine nuts in avocado, and 4) sweet potatoes with pistachios All four were delicious, but we favored the sweet potatoes with pistachio and the Israeli couscous with wild mushrooms. We preferred the latter because it just screamed truffle oil! Lemonade also offers stews, soups, and sandwiches. It is a must to try their namesake product, lemonade. They offer several flavors (original, cucumber, watermelon-rosemary, blueberry mint, ginger peach, etc.) and regularly alternate a sugar-free option. Our favorite is the cucumber mint lemonade which is very refreshing. One day on Twitter, I tweeted my love for their cucumber mint lemonade and several ""tweeps"" responded that liquor would pair well with the lemonade (I completely agree!) and that we should head their with flasks! Finally, if you've read my reviews (blog or CitySearch), you know that I have a set of sweet teeth. I couldn't leave without packing up three mini cupcakes at $1/each and one extra-large $4 chocolate macaron. The cupcakes (red velvet, carrot, and chocolate) were pretty tasty for a quick, cupcake-fix, but obviously don't compare to Sprinkles, SusieCakes, and other cupcakeries. The gargantuan chocolate macaron was the better dessert option. It wasn't like a traditional French macaroon, dainty and delicate; however, it was a tasty, brownie-esque option. Pros: fresh market sides, variety of lemonades Cons: long lines (but worth the wait!), not enough parking more

Delicious sides and stews 12/18/2009

Bring your lunch pail, and fill up your Thermos with tangy lemonade! A friendly staff serves up your whims and there are many choices to behold. My favorite are the lentils, the sweet potatoes and the legume salads! more

just what the neighborhood needed 12/14/2009

Finally - good, fresh food on Abbot Kinney that won't break the bank. The food here, served in a cafeteria-style line, has some winners and some losers, but you can sample anything before buying so that shouldn't be a problem. It's the sort of food you'd get down the street at Gjelina but for a fraction of the cost (and no snooty hostess or tips for waitstaff). This place is a killer for the indecisive - between the dozens of cold salads (including grains, veggies, pastas and other yummy stuff), the rotating stews, soups, sandwiches and proteins, the hardest thing is narrowing it down and picking a meal. It can be a little confusing because you go through the 'sides' first, but then if you order a hot dish you get a side with it (and a side consists of two scoops -- which can be divided into two separate sides, or two scoops of one side). But the staff is friendly so just ask for help. Only gripe: the signature lemonades are a bit sweet, and way too big. They only come in one size (which resembles a Starbucks venti cup); they should realize that less can be more and downsize their cups. Pros: great menu, fresh food, cafeteria-style seating Cons: ordering can be hectic/confusing more

New School Cafeteria = Majorly Yummy 11/9/2009

Lemonade, how I love thee. Let me count the ways...Ever since seeking solace in Lemonade after a harrowing parking experience pre-Abbot Kinney Festival, I have been hooked. Their watermelon rosemary lemonade is seriously crack in a glass. I also sneaked in sips of my boyfriend's peach ginger lemonade, which was fantastic as well. The sides are really creative, ranging from spaghetti squash with pomegranate dressing to my favorite -- the colorful and tasty watermelon radish with seared ahi tuna and sesame seeds. Some of these dishes can get a bit on the oily side, so don't expect to be dieting it up. Make sure you take advantage of the fact that they let you split the side portions into 2, and try as many as you can! On our second visit, we each tried their pot roast sandwiches (him: the short rib and mac 'n cheese sandwich, me: the turkey and gruyere), and needless to say, there wasn't a scrap left. Parking can definitely be tricky in the area, but once you snag a spot, you'll find it's well worth it. Pros: Super yummy lemonade and inventive cafeteria-esque dishes Cons: A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. more
