My 85 year old mother hired White Castle to fix a situation under her guest house. The cost was $18,000 but the owner, Mike Goldberg, said she could pay the balance over time without interest. She gave them a $1,000 deposit and the contract stated that $17,000 was due upon passing city inspection. The work was completed on January 5. My mother received a call from Mike stating that she needed to pay in full immediately or post date all ""payment"" checks and give them to him at once. I have read the contract and in addition to it being illegible, the wording is VERY unclear. She has yet to receive an inspection certificate and does not recall him saying anything about post dating the checks. My mother has excellent credit and has never owed a dime to anyone. I advised her not to post-date checks, but rather establish an auto pay from the bank to distribute the payments at the first of every month. This evening I came home to a vicious message from Goldberg threatening to put a lien against my mother's home and telling me that I should take a 2nd mortgage on my home to pay the bill. Did I mention that my mom gave him an additional $5,000 this afternoon? When I asked for proof of permit & the passing from the inspector, I was advised to log onto the LADBS website. When I did, I could not find proof of permit nor proof of inspection. This company took advantage of an elderly woman, and from the tone of his message, I am sure she is not his first victim. I would discourage everyone from using this unprofessional and unethical company!!!
Pros: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Cons: Threatening messages from the owner; taking advantage of the elderly
