Nice apartment, Bad neighbors and worse management 1/18/2011

I just moved out of this complex after finishing a two year stay. The floor Plan I had was a 2 bed, 2 bath that were on opposite sides from each other, first floor with a garage. The apartment itself was pretty nice and I had a view of the golf course which was nice too. However, the management company that purchased this complex after I moved in is completely unreliable. The complex has seen a COMPLETE change over of staff at least three times in just over a year and you never know who will be there the next time you go in. Each time I had a concern or needed some information from the staff they were courteous on the phone but almost NEVER returned a call if the person you needed wasn't available. They require a pet deposit as well as a monthly pet rent. As if it costs them money on a monthly basis for me to have a cat. I've been waiting for a week now (after making multiple calls) to find out if my apartment was cleaned to their satisfaction but still haven't gotten a return call. My guess is it has to do with them wanting me to fix the blinds that were damaged prior to moving in. But they can't find the move-in/move-out sheet to see where I noted it two years ago. If you call the phone line and listen to the recording they claim to have a ""Car care center"". You'd expect a detached building with an over-hang, water hose or maybe the wand style like seen at car washes and a handy vacuum. Not exactly. Try a vacuum that didn't work the entire two years I lived there, a garden hose that may or may not be there and at the end of my stay the faucet coming out of the wall was broken completely. It was just a hose attached to a building that you would unroll out to a parking spot. Handy when it was there but it's not a ""car care center"" and it wasn't functional most of the time. In the last 6 months there were several times when I came home to see multiple police cars at a building and just today a friend still in the complex received a letter concerning an attempted burglary that just happened. I'm not from big money and don't make it either but living in Legends at Preston, in the midst of the Preston area of Cary/Morrisville, should give some sense that you're living in higher end apartments where you would get better service and expect better screening of your neighbors. In the last year living there the quality of people moving in dropped considerably and you can tell just driving through the place. It looks like a used car lot in Garner rather than quality living on the nicer side of town. The complex has speed bumps with grooves cut in them so that car's don't have to slow down. Meaning... not only do they go faster but in order to maintain speed you have to swerve in to on coming traffic. Not exactly a safe combination when you have blind corners and in a child-filled complex. Overall, if you get a real managerial staff that will start doing a quality background check and not allow just anyone in there then the place would be nice to live in again. You could get over a few turn-offs and remember that it is apartment life. But... for the price they charge, the location it's in and the expectations one would have living in Preston it's a real let down and I'm glad I finally bought a house. Doug more
