Mini cupcakes and vegan options 1/27/2008

tarametblog Provided by Partner
This shop has been open for over two and half years now and offers vegan cupcakes, which I thought I'd surely detest, but the Red Velvet vegan mini cupcake was surprisingly, sweet, moist and delicious. They do not use artificial red dye though, so although it tasted like red velvet, it didn't look red but brown. I also sampled their yummy lime coconut, which had a layer of lime curd underneath the icing and bits of coconut inside the cake. I tried their passion fruit cupcake too, which tasted like a tropical drink. Another one that I ate was the chocolate raspberry, which although I normally like in a chocolate bar, I found it to be just OK in cupcake form. The designs on the mini cupcakes are so pretty that you hate to eat them. Pros: Vegan options and mini sizes Cons: Not the typical comfort food cupcake that you might be used to more

Sadly underwhelmed. :( 10/10/2007

I hate giving this place only three stars, because I was so hyped up to go from the reviews on this site. As adorable as the little cupcakes are, I have to say that I was really underwhelmed. They had some free samples of their cookies out--which, sadly, were BETTER than their cupcakes. The frostings are okay, but the cake itself isn't all that great. And the passion fruit cupcake--which was the primary reason I went to the shop in the first place--was NOT as good as it could have been. I would like to go back...but I likely won't...(sadly!) Pros: Great service, very cute Cons: Costs way more than it's worth. WAY more. Not that great tasting either. more

Again with all the hype. For what amounts to a sampler size cupcake of all of two bites ( and I'm being generous), they'll charge $1.50 for a mini cupcake. If you must sample, just go for a regular cupcake and feel better about your purchase. And yet, the cupcakes were a tad dry, the frosting almost bland. They are pretty, to be sure, but even the edible small circle designs had an almost cardboard taste. They all look pretty..in all those magazine articles...and the designs are dainty and cute, but there was no flavor to back it up. Sorry, I cannot recommend. I prefer Yummys Cupcakes with the generous buttercream frosting and moist cupcakes, or Sprinkles. Pros: pretty cupcakes Cons: but without the flavor more

By far the most tasty cupcakes! My daughters and I devoured them because they melt in your mouth. I don't mind the cost when its worth it. Service, presentation and taste you get what you pay for. My girls asked to go there more often. We tried my little cupcake which was not as good. Tastey but more on the dry side. I will defintely become a regular at Leda's. I probably will use them for my daughter's Birthday coming up. Try it or miss out! My friend recommended me and I'm so happy she did. Pros: yummy, friendly, easy parking Cons: may need to exercise more more

Beautiful, beautiful delicious cupcakes!!! 5/16/2007

Super tasty cupcakes.. not too dense like some other cupcakes in LA. Good frosting:cupcake ratio. The buttercream totally melts in your mouth and the presentation is amazing. I love the sugar decorations (butterflies, stars, etc) on top and the way they present them in the box is just lovely. (Affixed to a round cake board with white chocolate.) $1.50 for a mini is a bargain! The lemon is amazing as is the passionfruit. They also make really yummy cookies that come in both mini and jumbo sizes. The woman who helped me was extremely helpful and nice. I love "My Little Cupcake" but the presentation, more unique flavors and tasty buttercream at Leda's is to die for! Pros: Beautiful, fun presentation. Delicious product. Friendly staff. Cons: Even at only $1.50/$3 for a cupcake and $2.50/$4.50dz for cookies... it adds up. more

amazing cupcakes 4/10/2007

Leda's is a few blocks away from work so I stop by often. Her cupcakes are amazing, the frosting isn't too heavy and the cake itself has always been moist. I've been there well over 50 times and have NEVER had a problem with customer service. Theres hardly ever a wait, the most I've ever waited has been maybe 5 minutes. the cupcakes are very alice in wonderlandish, almost too cute to eat I just wish the speciality cupcakes were bigger, the small ones are perfect for trying the flavors, but i have my favorites and just wish i could get one giant passionfruit cupcake. I asked her once and she said its because the cream would be too dense (I have NO idea how thats possible). I eat about 6 or 7 by myself so thats about $10 on my cupcake addiction. The passionfruit, coconut lemon, and dulce de leche are to die for. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than my little cupcake. more

My favorite L.A. bakery 8/2/2006

eave32 Provided by Partner
The passion fruit and lemon cupcakes here are spectacular, and the more "common" flavors -- chocolate and vanilla, are definitely worth a taste, too. My favorite thing about Leda's is the frosting -- I'm not sure how they do it, but the frosting is smooth and light, not like the heavy, gloppy frosting you get on most cupcakes. I've never ordered a cake here (although I did get an assortment of cupcakes for my birthday), but I have admired the cake designs I see in the book -- perfect for a little girl's (or bigger girl's!) birthday party. I've never encountered anything but great service here -- maybe the previous reviewer caught them on a bad day. Pros: Delicious -- try the lemon and passion fruit cupcakes Cons: None more

Good but wayyy too pricey!!! 7/23/2006

I tried this place a couple of times because the cupcakes taste great. BUT I nor anybody I know will go back because they are ridiculously priced. I can't even believe that a miniature sized cupcake costs nearly $2.00. And a 8 inch for $75, give me a break! Too bad I enjoyed the cupcakes but the prices totally ruins the entire experience and the wallet. Pros: cupcakes, cookies Cons: PRICES more

good, but too pricey... 7/15/2006

Everything is so YUMMY and ADORABLE, but WHY so darn expensive????? $75 for an 8-inch round cake? That is even more than the ever expensive Sweey Lady Jane. That comes out to over $7 per slice...EEK! It is too bad because this really IS a great bakery and if they reconsidered their pricing, I think they would have a line out the door. Pros: yummy stuff Cons: too expensive more

As a cupcake lover and conniseur, I finally managed to get over to Ledas to have a try. After reading numerous reports about this place I was expecting to stand in a long line with others waiting for cupcakes. Fortunately I was the only one in the store aside from the two girls behind the counter. To my surprise, one girl kindly walked from behind the counter to help me pick out cupcakes. That is what I call "SERVICE!" I ordered the passion fruit and leche dulce cupcakes. These two cupcakes were marvelous. They were moist and made to perfection. They were not too sweet and were complimented wtih a beautiful lightly whipped frosty that didn't make me feel as though I would need to have a triple bypass after eating it. It was so perfect that I wouldn't mind eating it alone. Ledas cupcakes are awesome! Pros: moist, flavorful, pretty Cons: too small more

Would never give this place a second chance 3/9/2006

As a cupcake connoisseur, I was excited to hear of Ledas within walking distance. Service was awful. I had to pull teeth to engage the counter person - even to get the simplest information (flavors, frostings, etc.) that was after having to wait for get her attention (in an empty shop). But thats ok, I will tolerate anything for a good cupcake. Unfortunately, I missed out on that as well. Cupcake was fairly reminiscent of Duncan Hines, but not nearly as moist. Buttercream was the densest Ive ever had, and less butter and more confectioners sugar in flavor. Overall, would drive across town to get my cupcake fix rather than return here. more

Everything a CUPCAKE should be ... beautiful, flavorful cake that is moist, perfect frosting ... not too sweet... just right. Creamy and perfectly piped into a little mound of heaven. Fabulous & unique flavors!!! Not over priced. They even stay secure in their little togo boxes since they "glue" them down with white chocolate. This is one smart little bakery :) A TRULY gourmet cupcake. P.S. LOVE the petite cupcakes. Pros: great flavors, 2 sizes, pretty & tasty Cons: hard to see sign more

Cute bakeshop. Helpful people. Incredible taste from such small cupcakes. At first glance of the cupcakes, I didn't think that I would be satisfied. I ordered 3 tiny, but oh-so-beautiful cupcakes. Each tiny bite felt so rich and fulfilling. I still wonder what it would be like to have fullsized versions. My boyfriend enjoyed them as well, so thats a plus! more
