An HOUR for our food 4/6/2008

First, let me say that this was some of the best sushi I have had in town. The La Hana roll is to die for! That alone is the reason I'm considering going back. The Tokyo Ice Tea did just what the menu said it would - knocked me off my feet! And also but me in a good enough mood not to leave the restaurant. On this night, my husband and I were going to see the Cirque du Soleil show; we gave ourselves an hour and a half for dinner and drinks, which under any other circumstances is plenty of time. Our food at La Hana took over an hour. My sushi roll came 20 minutes before my husbands stuffed pork. They said the pork took longer to cook, but I've grilled pork...it does not take an hour to cook, not even close. Besides, his pork was completely uncooked on one end. It's hard for me to recommend this restaurant because I don't think you should ever wait over an hour for your food and you should be able to dine together (get your food at the same time). Time after time, my husband and I watched people walk out in a huff before they their food arrived, so I know we weren't alone in our experience. We watched people finish their drinks, complain to their waiters, and go. Nothing we received was at a discount or on the house, but it should have been. Pros: OK street parking Cons: very long wait for food more

Friendly chefs and delicious drinks 3/19/2008

My new favorite sushi place in town. Great atmosphere and upbeat service. The lychee martini is the perfect thirst quencher and all the fish is fresh. I've been going to the first restaurant the owners opened in Beaverton for the past 6 years, and I will now have two fantastic sushi places to go. Excellent value also. Will be back soon! Pros: Friendly sushi chefs, creative cocktails, fun, new location, happy hour Cons: Pay for parking before 7pm more

Great for casual lunch or a nice dinner 3/13/2008

Great atmosphere, friendly & prompt service, even better cocktails. I'm not really a sushi lover so I can't speak to that, but the other food is fabulous (not kidding, the salmon is the best I've ever had). Great presentation too. Pros: Food, ambience, service, drinks Cons: Little spendy for my student budget, but well worth it more

Best Japanese restaurant in town 3/10/2008

This is my seventh time I tried Japanese restaurant in Portland Oregon. I moved from Chicago recently and I was trying to find a quality sushi restaurant in town. Past six Japanese restaurants I tried were nothing but boring and so out dated. Most of them remind me ten years ago in Chicago. Finally I found my new favorite Japanese restaurant which is Le Hana. They have out-standing atmosphere and I can see many creative menu items which can be never find even in most hip Chicago Japanese restaurants. We had monk fish pate, Kobe beef skewer and scallop orange salsa(?) for appetizer. Each of plates was beautifully presented and taste very modern. We also tried Sushi combination, butterfly roll and IRO roll. Each of roll was very creative and nigiri sushi cut was amazing. Tuna was fresh and very generously cut. It was totally different from thin slice cut of other Japanese restaurants I tried. Price was surprisingly affordable. I felt even cheaper than last restaurant I visited which was Masu. I cannot wait to try other specialty rolls they have. It is a little far from my house but it is well worth to drive 20 minutes. I realized that I under estimate Portland restaurants. Pros: Concept Cons: Far from my house more

Great atmosphere! 3/7/2008

My husband and I took my Mother-In-Law out for Sushi. We decided after much research to eat at Le Hana. The restaurant is very close to the Tram..so schedule your day to make the ride. I called made reservations for a Thursday and showed up 1hr early. The wait staff was very accommodating and polite. We sat in the white room ($250.00 minimum) and enjoyed the privacy. The food was great, drinks even better. Highly Recommend more

Hairy Experience 2/13/2008

I ate here today with five friends during happy hour. The food was pretty typical. I think the tempura was over-priced for what you get...3 or 4 pieces of vegetable and two shrimp for $4. The sushi was fairly priced at $2, but my California roll had a hair on it and I sent it back. My friend joined us a bit later, ordered a California roll and she got what appeared to be the same California roll. (It was either that, or two rolls had hair on them in the same day). Yuck! I wasn't impressed either with our server who scowled the entire time. Maybe she was just having an off day. Anyway, the place did have a nice interior design and it was spacious. At least four of us decided we would not eat here again. Pros: Good ambiance Cons: Hair in our food x2 more

Amazing Sushi, Great Atmosphere, Awesome Wine List - Great Prices 2/8/2008

We have been to Le Hana multiple times now. They seriously have the best sushi in town. Much better than Mio Sushi or Heroshi's. Prices are very competitive. They have a great wine list for a sushi restaurant. I noticed that they were not marked up as high as some restaurants do to there wines by the bottle. If you haven't been, you really need to try it. You will enjoy yourself. Pros: Best Sushi, Great Wine List, Great Service, Wonderful Ambience more

What an experience. 1/10/2008

My Husband and I have eaten at La Hana about 4 times now. The Sea Bass, Scallops, Ahi Tuna, and Halibut were great. . You get a complete dinner for a reasonable price. The portions are ample and presented well. . Comfortable, and the staff attentive. We are taking our friends there tomorrow to try the Shushi. I am not sure what we will end up with, but I am confident that what ever we order will be exceptional. Take the streetcar or drive. Worth the trip to the SW Waterfront area. Pros: Dinners are complete with sides Cons: You have to pay to park before 7 more

Delicious!!! 10/8/2007

Wonderful food and atmosphere. Simply delicious! Le Hana will be seeing quite a lot of my friends and me in the future. :) Pros: Food, atmosphere, service more

Wonderful Menu - Fabulous Service 10/4/2007

I tried this restaurant for the first time with a group of friends, and we are all still raving about the terrific experience. The creative menu certainly has many options to choose from, and everything that we tried was delicious - including the drinks. If you're a bloody Mary fan, you'll have to try Le Hana's extra-spicy version, which is infused with wasabi. Our waiter, Vang - also the bartender - added to the fun and fabulous atmosphere, and also provided very accurate descriptions of some of the more traditional Japanese items on the menu. I can't wait to go back - Highly recommended! Pros: Excellent service, Creative menu, Delicious food Cons: Once everyone discovers this restaurant, it will be difficult to get a table! more

delicious food, great place! 9/10/2007

I went in the other day with my friends after hearing about the place from numerous people.\r Since we are all big fans of sushi, we were eager to try it out. The interior design for this restaurant was exquisite and alluring and the staff who worked at this restaurant were all courteous and professional. We ordered several different sushi rolls and appetizers, and the food was not only delicious and fresh, but also very artisically displayed and visually pleasing! We were impressed with the quality of the food, and the how beautifully it was prepared, something that I find to be suprisingly lacking in most japanese restaurants in the portland area. \r I would highly reccomend this restaurant as it has become a new favorite of mine! \r The restaurant has it own unique flair and style that i love and as for the cost, the pricing is actually suprisingly VERY reasonable for an upscale japanese restaurant and it's location. more

Just OK. 9/6/2007

I work very close to this new restaurant and wanted to give it a try, so the other day I stopped in. I ordered the Vegetable Tempura Roll. It was $9, which, I suppose is not bad for sushi, but it did not have any meat and the veggies were sparse. It was filled mostly with cucumber (which I LOATHE) but the menu (which listed it's ingredients) said nothing about be laden with cucumbers. I was told when I entered that Rice, Miso and Edamame were served complimentary with your order. After looking carefully at my receipt, I noted that I was charged an additional $1 for the rice and another $1 for the Miso. I didn't get any Edamame which was partially why I went there to begin with. \r \r I guess the help is nice and the place looks neat inside, but I was far from blown away by their food. I also felt like I was lied to regarding the ingredients in my order and what I would receive with my order. \r \r I was disappointed that I was overcharged but ,for $2, I did not feel it was necessary to go back. I'll probably try this place out ONE more time because the restaurants in this desolate Waterfront area are few and far between at this point. And, I always give a place a second chance before boycotting. Let's hope the shape up in the coming weeks or they are dead to me like Fredo. Pros: Cool/New Location, interesting decor, polite servers Cons: Long wait, overcharged, didn't get all of my order more
